Great pick up!

Congrats.

In case you didn't know, Leon has made us hockey fans a hockey specific section below where it use to be combined with basketball, etc.

Some really great pickups, and thanks for the kind words (And Phil, thanks for the PM). Hank, I am not sure why the Blue OM is a 1.... the reality is, who cares about the grade, its the only Elberfeld Washington Portrait Blue Old Mill, and one of only 3 Blue Mills known to date - rarity, not grade!

I am still not convinced it should be considered a "back" - I would like a few more to emerge, that can all be linked to the same sheet, that has a sensible story as to how the black got blue; like with the Brown Old Mill, where SL Hindu switches to SL OM and they forgot to change the ink on the back. Plus, I bet we see more of these suckers start to pop up - not many, but I bet a few more people start looking at their OMs for blue ink.

Joe Jackson notebook

I haven't picked up much this year, but was happy to get the Joe Jackson notebook. Nice to get a playing days Jackson item that doesn't break the bank.

I picked up the Crawford Novelty Cutlery and the McGraw Felix Mendelsohn.

Tried for the Plank Novelty Cutlery to no avail.

Great pick up! I collect Speaker, and I've never seen this. Also a Reds fan, and it's got Roush on the cover. I hope my jealousy inflates your victory.

T3 lot

I won a lot of 14 low grade T3s that included the Tenney variation I needed to complete my T3 set. The lot went for more than I was hoping (what a surprise these days), but it was worth it to finish the set. I'll be trying to sell off the rest of the cards in the lot once I get them so anyone interested should look for them in the B/S/T listings hopefully next week.

Thank you, Bob. :) I have been Facebook friends with the manager of the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum in Atchison, KS for a couple years. I have posted some of my Earhart cards from the 1930s in different discussions on the museum's Facebook page, and the people working at the museum were not aware of what is out there card-wise of Earhart prior to her disappearance.

Awesome Eddie. I’m glad now I didn’t bid on it. Sounds like it went to a great home and to an individual that truly appreciates it. Also great information on who the check was made out to. Nice.

Congrats.

Thanks for your kind words. Yeah the next time this will come to market is likely when my kids are selling it. Hopefully several years from now 😊. I actually had a lot of trouble sleeping last night, finally owning one of these.
As a set builder, I now have a new set to tackle as this is the first card I have from the Test issue. That is both good and bad.

Scott L. 12-07-2020 01:41 PM

Happy to have grabbed this. A card I always wanted to add to my PC.

Envious of the Zeenut Southworth pickup by the OP. I'm a fan of Billy, and that card is on my 5 most wanted. Fingers crossed for someday! Congratulations!

My lone win is the Paul Thompson Stengel that I couldn't stop looking at.

Anyone here get the studio Gehrig photo (lot 2264 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...itemid=73520)? I love that one too.

Casey2296 12-07-2020 02:35 PM

That Stengel is mesmerizing.

old baseball cards

Excited to see my OBC mates Mac and Andy pick up gems!!!
(15CJ Cobb & T217 Peckinpaugh)

This OBCer got shut out, but I have had a big year in acquisitions, so I don't mind simply watching the treasures flow in this thread.

REA had some incredible items once again. It's mind-boggling to see the quality and the quantity...and the prices realized by this AH. Kudos to that team!!

doug.goodman 12-07-2020 06:09 PM

I lost on the Barney Stein season pass...

But was pretty happy (and amazed) that I won the Giants Colgan's Chips premium with my "bookmark bid" from 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Doug

I'm right there with ya. That was #1 on my wantlist from this auction. I might have gone higher if there weren't so many other auctions right around the corner.

Thank you. I'm unsure about Berk Ross cards future value, but they are tough to find well-centered and with good registration. Just seemed like a cool buy. Mays has the some of the best looking cards - many are super intense. This photo was used on a number of his regionals.

Congrats Andy on getting the T217 Peck - I'm very happy for you! And Ryan, I agree with the others who feel you got the blue OM at a good price. Bryan, surely there isn't a better Casey Stengel photo in existence. Lots of other great pick-ups!

Being that I am working on a master set of Sam Rice's cards, I'm beyond stoked to have won 4 of the 5 1917 Sam Rice rookie cards, including my "Holy Grail" Sam Rice RC, the D350-2 Standard Biscuit, the only one in the combined pop reports. I saw this card in the PSA pop report several years ago and assumed I'd never have an opportunity to acquire it. I also didn't have Sam's 1917 blank-back RC. The other two RCs, the H801-8 Boston Store & D328 Weil Baking, are upgrades.

That Berk Ross photo, a lot like the 52T photo are both dugout photos which makes it difficult for card printers because there is a lack of contrast to the image. I think that holds back the value some. My favorite Nays card is the 51B which highlights the intensity you mention. My other two would be his 64T and his 67T as well as 61 Fleer and the recent topps Willie Mays foils.

wondo 12-07-2020 09:33 PM

Excellente', Val!

I hear ya Bryan. The same pose of Sam Rice was also used for his cards in the E121 and many related sets of the early 1920's.

shagrotn77 12-08-2020 03:11 AM

Val - those listings had your name written all over them! Congrats! I was considering them, but had bigger fish I was trying to fry, including a nice looking Hank O'Day OJ (another with your name written all over it). So glad you were able to grab all those Sam Rice rookies. And they all looked soooo nice!

Andy McG - congrats on the Zeenut Cochrane with Coupon. Another on my "for consideration" list. That'll look great in your collection!

shagrotn77 12-08-2020 07:52 AM

Thanks, Derek!

mouschi 12-08-2020 08:36 AM

I got nothing, HOWEVER, it was the catalyst for me picking up something. I was watching the Old Judge King Kelly Left Batting like a hawk. The background just makes me melt, and is probably my favorite OJ I've ever laid my eyes on.

I didn't get that one in specific, but it did light a fire under me to pick up one that was offered to me about eight months ago. I hemmed, hawed, dreamed about it, and ultimately said no...until the one popped up at REA.

So, my Kelly left batting is coming home, and I am jumping out of my skin excited!

YazFenway08 12-08-2020 08:59 AM

I swung and missed at a few things in this auction...but frankly had a great time chasing and it certainly lit a fire for me. I have seen a couple responses referencing future vintage auctions coming up. I try to pay attention to the boards and really appreciate the banner ads, but I have missed a couple of auctions. Is there a site that members here use to keep track of all auctions/schedules? Much of what I see online seems to have very dated Info...but I am not the best with technology. Thanks

MuncieNolePAZ 12-08-2020 10:32 AM

I picked up a baseball signed by Mantle and another by Mays in same lot. Thought I was going to get the ever elusive 1914 Cracker Jack Cobb for a great price (the only one I could afford), but fell asleep right before 12 and someone got it for an additional $250.
