Robert Williams thanks for not being so unreasonable. The card is nice and they know it. I've looked at various PSA graded Mantle topps 82 cards and have seen 2-3 grades in far worse condition. Let's call it a 2. What is a serious buyer willing to pay for this card in your opinion?

I would guess in the $700-$800 range.

I’m trying to unwind for the night and this thread has me cracking up. I won’t be able to sleep for an hour.

Ben I saw a PSA 2 that just sold on ebay for $1,800..

oldeboo 11-10-2020 08:39 PM

Should show more of that Jackie, could be a 7 or 8

It’s difficult to sell something if you don’t list a price. What is your asking price? I’m not going to bid against myself, and am not in the business of pricing another man’s merchandise.

Yes but that is already in a PSA slab, big difference.

Mpags91 11-10-2020 08:56 PM

Let's just say I enjoy watching you low ball me. Humor me Tyruscobb. What would you offer me if you really wanted this card?? It's really not difficult.

Mpags91 11-10-2020 09:01 PM

Why? From what I've read there are some buyers who prefer ungraded cards and they can still sell for what a graded card would sell for. You guys are so paranoid. Believe it or not, not everyone who comes through this forum is a scam artist. My cards are authentic. They were given to me by my grandfather.

Nobody pays graded prices for raw cards. Plus cards usually sell for less if not sold on eBay. ebay charges 13-15% to sell on there so a seller can make more cash while selling at a cheaper price. Also i don't collect Mantle so like I posted it was a guess.

Post some pics with prices in the BST section. If priced too low they sell within minutes. If priced properly they sell within hours. If priced to high they can be listed for years with no buyers.

pokerplyr80 11-10-2020 09:11 PM

This seems like too much of a coincidence. Did these cards from from grandpa Mize?

Then you should say that. And it helps to walk into a room and get the lay of the land before you do anything. Just like walking into a nightclub, Get a sense of where you're at and see how what "you" do and what "they" do is different or similar, then find common ground with people.

I'm sure your grandfather would be shaking his head at your bull in the China shop approach.

You might be a nice guy and a great addition to this forum but your everything is a nail approach doesn't sell well here.

A bit of humility and respect goes a long way.

Mpags91 11-10-2020 09:17 PM

Yea I did. Dean's cards wrote an article about it. Are you all affiliated with PSA or something. You guys are intense. Just trying to learn about baseball card values and how to sell. You won't discourage me. Someone wants my collection. Move along if you're not interested.

I wouldn’t offer you one nickel for that card. The uniformly rounded corners are a red flag for me. Plus, I already own a graded one. I don’t need to gamble on an ungraded card from someone I do not know. Easy pass for me personally, but good luck.

Mpags91 11-10-2020 09:20 PM

I've been respectful. If you're not interested in purchasing my cards go away.

Mpags91 11-10-2020 09:21 PM

Thanks Ben. I appreciate the knowledge.

forceplay sport 11-10-2020 09:25 PM

I guess my question is why not put a price on it if your selling it ?

Vegas Cards 11-10-2020 09:38 PM

Isn't this one of the more commonly graded Mantles? Maybe not that many ungraded examples out there for sale I would guess.

Most would ask why not get it graded first?

Although I may be wrong, and am answering without first checking a pop report, I wouldn’t think it is anywhere near the most commonly graded Mantles. It is actually a short printed card and a rarer Mantle.

Getting the card graded in today’s environment could take 6 months. If he seriously wants to sell his collection and expose it to the most bidders, he should list it on a certain auction website. That way he doesn’t have to worry about setting a price. The free market will set it for him.

Alternatively, he could take pictures and post the cards on this site’s BST section. You can tell he doesn’t have much experience. This is why he can’t sell the card. He doesn’t know how to price it, and wouldn’t even know a good offer for it. He won’t accept anything less than amount no reasonable person on this site will pay. Waste of time.

ncinin 11-10-2020 09:53 PM

Mantle

There is a "2" written/possibly erased on the back at the top/right beside Mantle's name.

It may be the scan but that same corner looks touched up in red marker.

Once again the coloring could be the scan but the 2 written/erased will make the card SGC 1.5 or a PSA 1.5 or 2 mk

Orioles1954 11-10-2020 09:54 PM

Raw: $800-$1000
Graded: $1600-1800

111gecko 11-10-2020 09:57 PM

Mantle

Seriously...there are a ton of buyers here(me included) but you will find that we always post prices. We get that you are new here and learning the process which is fine; we are happy to have another collector. Bottom line; just put your asking price out there and you may be surprised on the responses you get:

Also; What else is in the collection?

Thanks!

I do see that. So probably $600-800 ungraded and $1000-1200 graded 1.5

PhillyFan1883 11-10-2020 10:09 PM

Why hasn’t this post been moved to BST yet?

Besides the fact that it is extremely entertaining. I think we should give the original poster a chance, and he has been respectful. Although I laughed at the 4-5 grade and no price. Chalk it up to a Learning curve. Also I agree post a price next time, but I don’t feel that’s a requirement. Especially if an item is rare. This 53 mantle is not. VERY hard to sell Raw online especially not from a established member with a history. GLWTS

This card would not take months to grade. It would fall under express service at PSA which is currently about 2 or 3 weeks.

Good luck with the sale.

Hi Matt, it sounds like your a young guy and that you just started learning the hobby. My suggestion is you should delete your post, send the card or cards to PSA for grading. When you get them back, as long as they are encapsulated, you post them for sale again. This net54 is a great place for a guy to learn, and also to buy and sell. The same guys that are giving it to you today, would be the same guys that would gladly help you with advice. You came on a little strong, it’s a learning thing.

troutbum97 11-11-2020 12:24 PM

Anyone serving popcorn in this thread?

Eric72 11-11-2020 02:10 PM

I was surprised to see a BST thread - that started yesterday - with a second page.

It does have an “Adrian” feel to it.

wondo 11-11-2020 03:58 PM

My bad - I had offered $80 based on the 61T Maris. i got my threads confused and do not have any interest in this 53T mantle. My apologies

Mpags91 11-11-2020 05:38 PM

Thanks for the advice Chuck. I did not come on strong. I simply posted a card for sale and asked prospective buyers to make me an offer. Also, I did so respectfully and remained respectful even after all the despicable reprobates chimed in. I made a mistake by posting it on this thread and claiming it "may" be a 4-5. Again, I wasn't able to make edits until Leon moved it over to the BST thread. I'm not in love with baseball cards like you all are and that should be okay. I have a right to be here and to contribute to your hobby. However, I am not going to take that crap. If you aren't interested in what I have then simply move on to another thread. As for the grading, like I said my heart isn't in it and frankly I don't feel comfortable sending high dollar cards off in the mail. That doesn't mean someone won't have the courage to be interested in purchasing my collection and having them graded themselves. People in this hobby do like ungraded cards and will be willing to purchase my collection. You guys should already know that, so shame on your behavior. Your bullying tactics are a disgrace to the hobby. I've already made it clear that I am far from an expert, but you're right, I am learning a lot about cards and a lot about the type of people who like to collect them.

Out of curiosity, how would you deliver the Mantle to whomever purchases the card? Are you only dealing in person, face-to-face?

1. If you are not in love with baseball cards and the hobby, and are only interested in selling your grandfather’s cards, then this group is potentially not for you. This group primarily includes serious and hardcore members/collectors, as well as those that want to learn and make connections/friends in the hobby.
2. You do not have a “right to be here.” No one does. Your presence is is a privilege that Leon bestowed on you, me, and everyone else. You did not pay an entrance fee or earn anything. You have no rights on a private forum. I’m thankful Leon runs this forum and allows me to participate.
3. People mail high dollar cards through the mail everyday. Postal insurance is not that expensive.

+1 to all of the above.

However, I am curious about the "local pick up " option from OP, and its logistics.

Eric Perry and Brian, I don't think you read the post. If you did, you would be privately messaging me with an offer like some of you already have. It's quite simple, if someone nearby is interested, they can arrange to meet me and make an offer. Believe it or not, that's how transactions used to go down.

Mpags91 11-11-2020 06:40 PM

I'm sorry Conor912, are you going to make me an offer for my Topps 82 Mickey Mantle card? Last time I checked this was my post.

Regardless of any interaction that's happened with MPags, this is not true at all.

There are some people who rarely/never participate socially on here (and only use the forum as a vehicle to buy and sell), and that doesn't hinder them doing so. Nor does that involve a need for "a love of the hobby".

Obviously those things are great, but they are not some necessity or requirement for someone's activity here. If the guy just wanted to sell grandpa's collection without any of the above, there's nothing wrong with that.

(until you start asking $1800 for a $100 '61 T Maris).....

This Mantle

One thing that triggered a little sarcasm is when you said that you aren't here to make friends...well we all have many pals here that meet at several shows and spend quality time together and enjoy it ! Furthermore, most of us have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on our beloved hobby...ive had 25 40 and 50k cash sent to me with minimal coverage overnighted ,had an incredible 80k trade worked out from a good friend met from this board , call 3-4 guys here weekly about OUR HOBBY. You come in a little raw, not wanting friends, not liking sports cards "WRONG BOARD" for this kind of antic. This card is a good hobby card that many want a decent example of ,THIS MANTLE has rounding corners and I do not purchase rounded corners so Iam moving on but this is a very very miniscule amount of what many spend here...Ebay doesn't care how you treat their customers but we do ,so maybe EBAY is your best bet. Many of this hobby giants read or here on this board , so to say one has to meet you in person would only mean that the Marriott and the PRIME RIB is on you, it's how we roll. This is why some may have reproach toward you...so even if you were Queen Elizabeth's top soldier you wouldn't have been treated with the royalty you're demanding for less then average example of this card and it still wouldn't happen with a hi-end Babe Ruth card...I like many wish you well of the card just be a little more at ease .

PhillyFan1883 11-11-2020 10:18 PM

In person only ? I defended you earlier, but I have to say thats pretty ridiculous on a $1000 card.. I think you are unknowingly hitting for the cycle of NET 54 pet peeves lol. Don’t take it to heart. I hate bullying and I am not doing so. I just am adding my two cents to hopefully provide insight.

Off subject- Last time I did an in person only deal off flea bay I was sold a genuine 1955 Bowman mantle sgc 3 and a Counterfeit 1952 Mantle Topps. (SGC A case was cracked carefully around the edges and super glued back together. Needless to say when I realized the fraud I had to beat the shit out of a middle age Asian man in a TD bank parking lot. LOL..

ALL that said your card looks genuine, but I would grade the card and just use insurance when shipping the card. If it was a 30k card ok I would understand In person only but its not, they offer insurance for that.

icurnmedic 11-12-2020 07:14 AM

Likely could ship that card CONUS fully insured less than $30 registered mail. Secure and consistent( but sometimes painfully slow). But it sure does open up a plethora of potential customers.
