+1 Tony.

Not all Cobbs were created equal. Seems like 150 series examples are a bolder, deeper green...and crisper clarity, right?

Even the PSA 7 Cobb Bat Off in ML seems to have registration/clarity issues.

Yes. I've noticed the same thing regarding Planks: the 150 Series is a deeper blue.

+1 to that. The registration/clarity issues would be a deal breaker for me.

Did a little research into market bubbles. This seems about right:

Behavioral finance theory attributes market bubbles to cognitive biases that lead to groupthink and herd behavior. Other theoretical explanations of market bubbles have suggested that they are intrinsic and contagious.

Emotional and cognitive biases seem to be the causes of bubbles, but often, when the phenomenon appears, pundits try to find a rationale, so as not to be against the crowd. Thus, sometimes, people will dismiss concerns about overpriced markets by citing a new economy where the old valuation rules may no longer apply. This type of thinking helps to further propagate the bubble whereby everyone is investing with the intent of finding a greater fool. Still, some analysts cite the wisdom of crowds and say that price movements really do reflect rational expectations of fundamental returns. Large traders become powerful enough to rock the boat, generating market bubbles.

Thanks!

That 4 looks great - better than the 7 in the auction. If my trimmed Cobb were a Wagner it probably would have received an 8.

iwantitiwinit 09-29-2017 04:23 AM

Here's the question in the nearer term (say within 2 yrs) will a comparably graded Green Cobb exceed a Magie error in value/sales price.

If you go into your User CP and change the default posts-per-page to 80, the bubble is shorter (and so is the clicking) :)

I personally think the market on Green Cobbs is a bit inflated. That means everyone thinking of getting one should get one now as they are probably about to take off :(.

Sad to see for me. I didnt realize it was my card that got the records market high price until today. Not everyday you see that.. Good luck to the new buyer with it.

any thoughts on the M116 Cobb? Not to go off topic, but it is kinda a "poor mans" T206 portrait. Pop doesn't seem to be that high as well.

Never trust BIN prices on ebay...its hard enough to trust regular auctions on ebay but at least you can see some bidding behaviors

Always a ton of psa 1-2.5 1933 ruths, t206 cobbs etc out there on ebay BINs..... no significant price jumps on those unlike the psa 4s +

nameless 10-04-2017 08:36 AM

I hear ya about bin prices but I did see one end for 4700 the other day and Cobb had a crease in his head! A lot of bids as well.

I have an SGC 40 I'm gonna move soon. Let's see what happens with a no reserve auction I guess. [emoji3]

When it comes to high end cards like this one, I think that you can never pay too much, only too soon. If the card isn't worth quite what you paid for it today, it soon will be. :)

I'm in the same boat. Let mine go before the run up. Oh well. It was the best decision at the time with the information I had available.

Last few hours of bidding and it's $44,000 with commission.

MVSNYC 10-15-2017 05:35 AM

Memory Lane Cobbs-

Green Port 7- $67k
Red Port 7- $35k
Bat on 8- $66k
Bat off 7- $29k

Some incredible prices in the auction last night...The HOF T206's especially (mostly 7's & 8's), went for insane numbers.

Sean 10-15-2017 05:40 AM

Two Mordecai Browns, an Evers and two Joe Tinkers, all PSA 8, each went over $20K.
