CJ's

Didn't win a single one. Although I didn't stay up at all after it went into extended bidding. Kinda weird closing on a Thursday night for me. Lost out on three of them.

I snuck in one bid on the Gowdy and won. Couldn't resist. Thought it was too nicely centered with deep red background. Going to display it with my Gowdy game used bat.

Very nice, AJ. I went a little crazy. Won 7 1914s. Hopefully will get them crossed to PSA on site next year in Cleveland at the National.

Chicago Find

Picked up the Sherry Magee. Now only two away from the master set. Of course the two I need are the Pratt and Matty.

Justin well done! Good luck on the crossovers. Recommend cracking them out first!

Speaking of Pratt, I found it interesting that 2 of them sold last night (Probstein sold 1 on eBay)

Yep that's definitely my game plan.

But you already have the Cobb and Jackson? I'd say you're doing great. :)

Won the Hughie Jennings. Did a little jig and screamed: Eee-yah!

1952boyntoncollector 06-16-2017 06:15 PM

I won 6 but

now i no longer interested in the CJ project i was working on and now will sell or take them to National to trade...basically won with starting bids...that stayed for 3 weeks.. #25 #137 #104 #81 #33 #11..i cant complain at the prices i got them at though...

Re: Cobb and Jackson

Yeah, Sean, I completed the 1915 set late last year and hope to one day finish out the master. Gonna be a good while seeing what a '14 Matty brings these days. It seemed to me that the prices for the '14s in this auction were very reasonable.

The price for Del Pratt seemed reasonable. Maybe someday for the Mathewson.

If they cross equally you will have made decent money. Beckett grading just doesn't hold the prices from what I have seen. I have been slaughtered when I have gone to sell BVG cards. Also, I wonder if any were over graded since, and it is my guess (from a little birdie source) Beckett bought them, graded them and gave them to Goodwin to sell. Pretty smart grading cards you own and then selling them, if that is true. It is sort of like printing money.

for the authentics and 1s and 2s though i dont think they would be stretching that much...just knowing the cards came from an original source gives some unique value to these cards....there are PSA 4s out there for instance that may of been submitted to PSA six times...soaked and who knows how many other things done to those cards etc by the time you see it at auction..

I nabbed a few

Timing is everything. Had these been "found" and auctioned about three years ago, prices, in my opinion, would have been significantly higher across the board. BVG grading notwithstanding, these prices are further evidence that the 14 CJ "craze" has ended...for now...

You do realize a ton of "original" finds were soaked out of albums right?

Yes...but again so could have PSA 4s been soaked when originally found, then who knows what else happened the 6 other times submitted to PSA ...these BVG cards only went through this 1 time...if at all.... The point was that for me the most tolerable i would be for BVG cards would be if they were direct from a 'find'

Isn't grading your own material considered highly suspect from an professional ethics standpoint?
