Ha, another issue--just found out today about a big check coming my way--if you knew about this last night would have spent a lot more. So I'm even more interested if anyone with some regrets putting one of their winnings up for sale!

+1. Ha! Know the Feeling and from the same time period. Maybe our Ex's knew each other.

Anytime I got a package in she thought it was cool to go out and shop using the same budget. Glad I can rebuild as you are Aaron.

Well done

Good to see you're back in the game.

The 50 Bowman and the Topps fit perfectly in my baseball card advertising collection and the pennant was a cherry on top.

As Steve said in another thread. I thought the exhibit prices were not as strong as we have seen. I won the 25 Ruth Exhibit pictured below which is actually the more rarer 1926 version mis labeled. Plus, the 1939 Saluatation near set was a value which included the single print of Gehrig seen below. Not pictured were the 1962 Stat back complete sets I shockingly won. The red backs are extremely scarce compared to the black stats. The rest I'm sure y'all know.

I had that Atlanta Crackers Moran high on my list. Glad to see you got it, it is great.

The Ruth and Gehrig are very nice. I got the Ruth 4 on 1 (picture somewhere up on this thread) and it was only $840 for a SGC 50. I was floored. Went to bed thinking I didn't have a prayer.

I was happy to win a Felix Mendelsohn McGraw and an Eddie Collins player agreement with Larry McPhail as well. Sold our Heilmann Mendelsohn years ago and now have his replacement.

Thanks Ed, and Congrats to Bob and Steve on your pickups. Steve my finger hovered around the bid button on your 4-1 exhibit but my other bids were holding up and HA is right around the corner.

Yes, upcoming HA put a damper on my enthusiasm me as well. Can't believe some of the photos in that one.

I won the T51 complete set, but I was kind of hoping someone would outbid me at the end. I paid full market value for a raw set (IMO), but spent $300 earlier that day that actually knocked some of the cards off the list I needed (number on front variations). I will go through it and see if I can make upgrades and probably break up the rest or make a different complete set to resell.

Marslife 05-01-2017 04:03 PM

Nice T51 pickup John, hopefully some nice upgrades for you. I snagged the Mecca wall hanger, will fit in nicely with my T201 Master set - will hang it next to the double folder display cabinet!

I got shut out of all of the other lots I was bidding on, glad to see they went to fellow members!

gr8 stuff fellas!

Jim Thorpe 33 Sportkings

I teamed up with another member of this site to buy the lot of 121 signed 1933 Goudey commons. I needed Todt, Quinn and Clancy, which puts me at 222/239 for the set. That lot went much cheaper that I feared, so with my "extra" money I was able to pick this one up. Fits nicely with my Ali, Pele, Jordan, Howe, Petty, Jim Brown and Tiger signed rookies in my "greatest of their sport" collection of signed rookies.

Blunder19 05-01-2017 07:34 PM

nice pick up on the proof sarno.. congrats..

swarmee 05-01-2017 07:36 PM

That's a great Thorpe auto, and with your spare change... ;-)
Congrats!

One each for Tinker for Reds and Feds (love the rhyme). Highest graded for either and only a couple others have ever been graded. BTW, I only want one so if you want the other let me know.

I bought a 55 on ebay not long ago for around that, doesn't sound that low to me, I think maybe it gets no love because he's on the Braves?

This Jim Thorpe was one of my favorite pieces in the entire auction. Congrats to you and everyone else on their winnings. REA is a fantastic auction house.

Sounds like next up is a Ruth. Hope you've got some more spare change laying around. :)

Jasonxmay 05-01-2017 10:05 PM

Haha. I have 3 Ruth signed 1933 Goudeys, so I'll have to cheat and go with the Beckett definition of Ruth's "rookie card."

Thanks guys. I'm very happy to finally have a proof.

Fantastic pick ups, everyone. That Thorpe signed card is very elegant.

I'm excited to finally add a T206 proof to my collection. This example used to belong to Wonka, so I am happy to own it.

Awesome proof!

I sure miss Wonka's quick wit and humor (not to mention his photoshop shenanigans.) Is he completely out of the hobby now or just not active on the board anymore?

It doesn't look like he's banned, according to his profile. He just hasn't been on the board since 1-2-16, and hasn't posted since 10-21-15, in this thread about the Peck & Snyder card that Leon returned to the NYPL:

calvindog 05-02-2017 11:29 AM

He's banned.

Whodunit 05-03-2017 12:41 AM

I read over all these posts and was slightly disappointed. Was i the only one going after post war cards? I won several, overpaid on one, but dont regret any of them as was mentioned in a few posts earlier. Great auction!!!! Hats off to Brian Dwyer for such a great auction and the excellent job he's done to bring REA back.

Shoeless Moe 05-03-2017 08:50 AM

I heard he got banned for returning a bad peach.

oldjudge 05-03-2017 12:26 PM

Leon-You got a steal on that Jos Hall cabinet. When the Dreier's sold their group they sold for about $30,000 each. I think any Jos Hall with a nice image is worth $12,000-$15,000 at a minimum.

vintagewhitesox 05-03-2017 02:25 PM

Anyone pick up that lot of Leaf baseball short prints? Looking to pick up a few.

I got these.

Reminds me of when I was the winning bidder on the '39 V351 Ted Williams in a PWCC auction awhile back--the wife thought it was cool to spend about the same amount painting the interior of the house a wicked shade of yellow-gold. I told her we could recoup some bucks by renting it out as a brothel during the day, when we were both working!

Best wishes,

Larry

When viewing the auction,
click on "My Navigation"
then click "Account"
scroll down and click "View" next to 5/1/2017.
You'll see your invoice.

I actually rec'd the tracking info., arriving tomorrow, but I consigned so my earnings covered my winnings. Best way to do it.

First Wagner so now I have at least one card from each of the first HOF inductees. I already have the E93 Chase and Cy Young so I guess i better finish the set!

Bobsbats 05-05-2017 03:26 PM

Received my items today...couldn't be happier!
I've always said, REA is the best auction house (IMO) in the business.

edjs 05-05-2017 03:30 PM

The cards keep on pouring into this thread, great pick-ups everyone. Tbob, I love those E99s, great job.

Aaron, so glad you have resurfaced and happy to see you are still a John Honus Hans man. Be great to catch up at the National in your backyard and swap lies. Promise I will tell you how I hid my cards before my divorce in Tierra del Fuego and lived to tell the story. Managed to pick up the 1921 Exhibit of Ruth and the E95 anomaly card of Plank. Always liked the weird stuff. All the best, John
