HOF Bob Lemon no-hitter ticket
1 Attachment(s)
Freshly acquired in a swap with net54 good guy Doug Goodman, here is a ticket from HOF'er Bob Lemon's no-hitter against the Tigers on June 30, 1948.
The ticket was paper clipped to a scored program from the game. The lucky patron that attended the game neatly notated: "No hit game June 30, 1948 Night" in pencil on the front of the bleacher ticket. Thanks Doug! |
Wow nice Scott. How many realistically obtainable no hit tickets do you still need?
|

I have tickets to 203 of the 295 total no-hitters that have been pitched. The operative word is "obtainable" as you mentioned. At one time I thought that obtaining no-hitter tickets prior to 1950 would be tough, which is true. Persistence has paid off & I've actually found 23 that predate 1950, so who knows... If you look at no-hitter tickets that I am still searching for from 1940 forward, the number is 14 different games. I would also like to upgrade between 3-4 of them that I do own Not bad! ;) |
Wow Scott I had no idea you had that many. That 's awesome!

Great cards Jon. I'm a big fan of RPPCs from that period.

Thanks Joe. I've been interested for a while and don't have many. I really enjoy them. To me these type of things tell the real story of how baseball is America's game or at least shows the sport was woven into who we are. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congrats Scott! I really enjoy when you make additions to your collections. And way to think of Scott, Doug! :) |

Here are a couple of other recent pickups for my Alameda Sports Collection:
Tommy Harper MLB Debut and 1st hit stub (4/9/62) along with an opening day photo from the Cincinnati Enquirer. 1930 Alameda Elks Charity Ballgame Ticket along with an article from the Oakland Tribune dated 10/24/30 |
I've had the very common 1 1/4" and the tough 3" versions of this pin for years, but the 1 3/4" has been extremely difficult to locate. Perhaps that is why Paul valued it much higher in his book. I'm just happy to have it in my collection at last:D

After 6 agonizing weeks of worry about this item it finally arrives. Was sent to a third party shipper after I won it. I figured it would take two weeks max to get to me...after three I started to worry, especially when I noticed the UPS tracking number was cancelled. Had to call and get the new tracking number and waited and waited. Saw that number too was cancelled a few weeks later. After lots of phone calls I got a new FedEx tracking number and here she is. This thing is a monster. Louis Van Oeyen "Postergraph". According to Hunt Auctions they believe these were player presentation items as the only other one they had was from the Smokey Joe Wood estate. That is a full size baseball bat next to the photo.

Outstanding "postergraph"! Agonizing was probably a huge understatement while waiting for this piece to arrive. I would have been a nervous wreck
Glad it arrived safe and sound for you! Outstanding piece!! Congrats :) |

Picked up an advertising program to sell ads for the Pirates 1952 program.
quite unique |
Incredible piece Dan!

Thanks guys. Trying to figure out where to hang it now, I'm afraid my walls won't hold it, it's pretty heavy.

I found this Cardinals scorecard over the weekend and bought it because of the signatures on the back and I noticed that a young Ernie Banks was penciled into the lineup. Went to Baseball Reference to get the actual game date and I discovered that this was the game where Banks hit his first career home run - September 20, 1953. Pleasantly surprised :)

I make out Sal Yvars, Steve Bilko, Harvey Haddix, and the one and only "Vinegar Bend" Mizell. Can't opine as to the authenticity of the sigs but very cool program all the same.

Ebbets Field Cap
1 Attachment(s)
The only one of these I have seen was the one offered by REA back in 2014 (dated to the 1950s). I always had issues with that dating for a few reasons:
1. The fact that it said Ebbets Field (ushers cap read Dodgers by that time) 2. The size of the employee badge (smaller than those you see in period images of that time frame; I have small collection of these and the smaller ones pre-date the late 1940s) 3. The style of cap. 4. The color of the cap. 5. Period images from the late 1940s-1950s show venders in a different style cap. I got to thinking that in 1937, the Brooklyn Dodgers wore uniforms with green lettering, numbers, and green caps. So I spent some time going through the Brooklyn Eagle and found this for 22 April, 1937: “All of the ushers at Ebbets Field are new and there are 36 of ‘em in those natty green uniforms.” Not prepared to call this an ushers cap yet, but the color, embroidery, and pin size on the REA example suggest to me this is late 1930s/early 1940s. This would help to explain why you can't find images of it during the "Capital of Baseball" era. Dave Grob |

Entered the realm of jerseys and went for this circa 1937 Hoover High School (San Diego) jersey...the same team and jersey style of Ted Williams' (although this was from the estate of another player). Now just trying to figure out if Ted and Warren Kanagy ever played on the team together, or if there time never overlapped (since Ted graduated in early 1937) . If anyone knows the 1936 Hoover roster, please feel free to let me know:)

Some interesting new items for my women in baseball collection.
Program and game ticket for American softball team versus an international team in Japan. I believe this to be post war, but not by much. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psx4joyukb.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...pst1n6fjuc.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psni5doh04.jpg And two of my favorite pieces in the collection... These are a pair of postcards featuring members of the 1925 Philadelphia Bobbies girls baseball team. The identity of the right hander I do not know, but I am fairly certain that the tall lefty is the tragic visage of Leona Kearns. You can read more about the Bobbies unfortunate trip to Japan here http://sabr.org/research/dropping-pi...elphia-bobbies. Ms. Kearns was just 17 years old when she embarked on the trip with the team, and through a series of unfortunate events, the team was stranded in Japan. Three of the players, including Ms. Kearns, ended up having to stay for over a month in Japan as the rest of the team and the manager had left them there. The three finally begged for enough money to make the return trip to America, but along the way they encountered massive waves and Ms. Kearns was swept overboard. Her body was never recovered. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps7sizgglx.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps8ssleylj.jpg The back of the postcard is in both English and Japanese, which would make sense if they were brought with the team to possibly sell as souvenirs on their trip through Japan.
