Anyone know who this is?

I picked up a couple life size stand ups at the antique market yesterday. Dealer couldnt remember the players name, but said he was in hof. Best I can tell 83 was worn by a Doug Atkins. Not that familiar with pre seventies football. Thought these were cool. I Have to do some repair on the hand. If anyone can confirm the player that would be cool.

autograf 09-19-2016 12:27 PM

Doug Atkins was a HOFer w/ the Bears. Neat piece. Think it looks like him from what I remember of sending him cards to get autographed.

Huge Nodder Collection

1 Attachment(s)
Guess I can now say I have Huge Nodder collection. This year the Cincinnati Reds had a feature exhibit on Nodders. They had three of these giant 6 foot bobbleheads custom built (and yes, the heads do bob back and forth). In order to help them recoup the cost of this portion of the exhibit, I purchased 2 of the 3. The third is at auction (ends 30th of Sept) through major league auctions.

Awesome Big Bobble Bobber;)

perezfan 09-20-2016 01:58 PM

Agree! That's awesome.... a perfect jumbo sized representation of the original. Whoever crafted those did an AMAZING job!

Huge pickups!

Dave Grob 09-20-2016 02:26 PM

Huge Nodders

Thanks. The quality and detail on these is amazing. I am a big supporter of/and contributor to the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum. Each year, in addition to the more permanent exhibits, they curate a feature exhibit. I think their original thoughts were that some local business entity(ies) would step up to purchase these to help offset the cost as they would look great in just about any business (ok, maybe not every business) Sadly, this did not happen. I bought 2, but just can’t take 3.

I am really hoping that someone snags the 3rd one in the major league auction:

You can find the link to this auction under the tab “SHOPS” at the right side of the screen.

Thank goodness that's not Giants or I would pretty much have to have it. :D

I'll bet the exhibit is pretty cool.

Scott Garner 09-20-2016 03:04 PM

Wow, is that giant Reds bobblehead cool! :)

ksfarmboy 09-20-2016 03:44 PM

That is awesome Dave and you got 2!! Perfect addition to your already incredible collection.

perezfan 09-20-2016 03:53 PM

Looks like they cannot ship it... Bummer :(

Hopefully someone locally will snag that last one. If not a private collector, it would look great in the entry area of almost any restaurant or bar. They might want to put it under an acrylic cover, though.... I would think the temptation to bob its head would be overwhelming!

slidekellyslide 09-20-2016 04:59 PM

Whoa! That thing is cool...and to have two of them??

Here's the direct link to the auction. Can we know what the reserve is?

http://auctions.mlb.com/iSynApp/auct...e3=livebid&&qt[0].type=openbrac&qt[1].type=openbrac&qt[1].value2=%2C+&qt[2].type=fieldmatch&qt[2].name=panname_partnername_s&qt[2].value1=mlb&qt[3].type=operor&qt[4].type=fieldmatch&qt[4].name=panname_partnername_s&qt[4].value1=team&qt[5].type=closebrac&qt[6].type=operand&qt[7].type=fieldmatch&qt[7].name=panname_teamname_s&qt[7].value1=reds&qt[8].type=closebrac

Large Mr. Red Bobblhead

Dan,

Yup.. I bought two.. Just can't do all 3 based on the size/space requirements. As far as the reserve, my guess is not too much more than the opening bid. The detail is incredible and it goes to a good cause, the Reds HoF and Museum as they are just trying to recoup some of the costs for the exhibit.

This is really beautiful. I hope that you keep it with a lot of other old White Sox stuff.

That has always been one of my favorites as well Bob. The unique form, extreme quality, and craftsmanship set it apart. And who doesn't love dogs?!?!?! The copper is also pretty darn cool:D

See how happy I was when I found mine?

It is coppper and looks better when cleaned up and polished. I am not sure if it will or will not work this piece.

Bob & Mike:

Your great trophies remind me of one of my favorite items, the championship trophy awarded to the 1910 Raymond (WA) Cougars. The Washington State League was a class D professional league from 1910 to 1912.
Franchises included the Aberdeen Black Cats, Chehalis Gophers and Proteges, Hoquiam Loggers, Centralia Pets, Montesano Farmers, Raymond Cougars and South Bend River Rats.
Fielder Jones was player manager for the Chehalis team in 1910, just four years removed from leading the "Hitless Wonders" to a 1906 World Series victory.
A player in the back row in the 2nd team RPPC is wearing a Portland Beavers uniform, circa 1909.

Well this one was too fun to pass up.

Rickey was such a staunch anti-Communist Republican I'm surprised he didn't bat right handed. :p

Just picked this up, a cardboard photo that was inserted in a 1934 copy of the Yomiuri Shinbun newspaper featuring the MLB and Japanese all star teams from the tour that year.

Did a little write up about it on my blog http://baseballcardsinjapan.blogspot...-all-star.html

Are there any stamps or hallmarks?

It is marked Heco En Mexico on the bottom. The seller listed it as a piece advertising Carta Blanca--Cerveza--Exquisita beer in Mexico but the pics Ive seen don't show that marking.

Looks like the third Mr. Redleg nodder is going to sell in the on-line auction as the reserve has been met. Great news of the Reds Museum.

Picked up a pair of these at very reasonable prices yesterday. Have wanted one for a little while. I don't consciously collect Marquard, but I do have a growing Marquard collection...
