68 Bazooka very tough and nice pickup. Wish I would have seen it first 😊 Got these cards from various dealers.

Really great pickups guys! The T3 Cobb, various Matty and Johnson items, CJ's, and that insane 'Old Hoss' OJ -- just incredible stuff.

The most unexpected thing for me to come out of the AC National was that it re-energized me to focus on Pre-War again.
I realized how much 50's/60's I'd been buying over the past year or so -- That will definitely change post-AC.

Picked up this game set. I didn't realize it had so many HOFers in it. It seems this series comes in VG or NM condition. I was lucky to find the entire set along with the box in great shape. The story is it came from Great Grandmas desk recently found.

Personally I hate the Red the flips... A fair chunk of my signed 58 set is in old green flips and I'd love to be able to collect it that way. I love SGC but the red with the gaskets looks ugly IMO.

Thank you for the correct information, it is appreciated.

I more recently leaned toward autos due to my sons influence so the red sgcs and blue psas stick out to me. I really love the different colors as they show at a glance the certification. I think it is necessary to help fight scammers.

I will admit though those redesigned sgc flips looked terrible and so bad I would almost walk away from a card with one. An absolute disaster. I did have two cards with those redesigned flips and I broke them out as they looked so cheap and fake it seemed like they were in a PRO Grading case in my collection.

2016 National Pick-Ups

Had to wait to get back home to upload and save images. Was quite happy with items I was able to find. Did see very many overpriced items, especially the high-graded 50s, 60s and 70s rookies and stars. This is all more my speed.

Very nice amalgamation of "cards", Bob. Seems your collecting focus might not be all that narrow.:D

Would love to find a set of those that someone found in Grandma's house. Nice.

Don't I know it Todd. I carry around about 25% of the pages out of the SCD catalog to use for want lists and cross items off as I finds them. I may not finish sets off quickly but, I always seem to be able to find something I need, no matter where I go. Plus, I don't worry as much about grading and condition and actually prefer "raw" cards, if I can find them. This National turned out to be pretty good for me. :o

Time-frame for SGC auto flips clockwise from top left:

Zernial - 2005 to 2009/2010
Astroth - 2010 to 2012
Bench - 2013/Early 2014
Alston - Mid 2014 to Present Day

Agreed. It's a great card. No knock on the card at all. It's the dealers pricing strategies at card shows, and especially at the National, that has me shaking my head.

I know. I know. For the first time I can recall I purchased nothing, zero, zip, nada, etc. at a National. Been trying to figure out all week why dealers are asking even more insane prices than normal. Sure, it is the National and all that but I have usually found that deals are always available if you are polite and flash a wad of Benjamins (just kidding, sort of). Less so this time, and I wonder if the rush of mega money auctions for the you-know-who '50's Topps cards has created the perceived need for certain dealers to ratchet up their prices. For example, I saw numerous cases of low grade (1-2.5) T206 Hof'ers like Frick, Beckley and the like with stickers of $600-800. That's a little naughty.

I am sure those are the sellers who went home bitching about how no one was buying anything in Atlantic City.

Elmer Flick in a PR-GD+ for $600-800?

Whoa, not sure if this example is hyperbole, but even so, I think it makes me feel better that I didn't invest the $1000 or so just to go there to get frustrated!

Aquarian Sports Cards 08-10-2016 02:48 PM

I definitely saw t206's for literally 3x what I am asking for them and I do this for a living as well. Makes me wonder if I had brought mine should the dealers in question been anxious to pick them up at my full asking price???

When the blues are running, one can simply toss a shiny object off the pier in Nags Head, NC and catch dinner. if the dealers sense a bull market, prices will rise.

Lotsa very nice pickups in this thread! Steve, I'm sure that Leon will instantly recognize your T216 Va. Extra pickup.

Condition-wise & budget-wise, this T330-2 (thanks to Chris Buckler) and this PM6 (thanks to Hank Thomas) fit nicely into my WaJo collection. And, thanks to Vic Stanley for these 1948-50 Safe-T-Cards, an obscure Washington, DC, area issue.
Val

It is a rare day on this site, when I don't see an item that I have never seen before. Awesome material!

Seriously, that be one of the mega deals that went down at the National. If you are happy, then congratulations and good luck when you decide how to distribute them to the world.
