July Pickups
3 Attachment(s)
Never thought I would own a Wagner let alone two! And was also fortunate to pick up a beautifully centered E102 Cobb!! Traded away all my 33 Ruths but there are a lot more of those out there. A couple of major cards taken off my bucket list. Thank you to JoeT. That will be it for a while!!

Got this "none higher" at great price last night (unless PSA 8 CJ 15s are now declining overall). http://www.net54baseball.com/attachm...1&d=1468596650

I like the Cobb you picked up Brian, but I don't recognize it. Is it a magazine issue, and what are the dimensions?

A big thanks to Pete Costanzo for selling me this Matty...
|
Brian, they look like bookplates, likely bound or something in some way at the top (like a notepad would have been.) thickness? Paper, cardstock, or cardboard?

Just won this in last night's PWCC ebay auction.

The one card I wanted more than any for my Gehrig collection. PWCC sale. 11 or 12 graded, 1 higher.

Thank you. From my observation, since they are in transit, it does not look like they are bound. If they were, I would have passed. They seem to be either cardstock or cardboard. |
Brian,
I cannot identify your Cobb, but I can tell you this much: that photo is the one used for the T201 Mecca double folder (Cobb/Crawford). That's pretty cool! Scott |

Classic pose.

Thank you for the compliment. |

Thank you and thank you for your e-mail help on this matter. I literally can't wait to get my hands on these two items. Here is a link from Leon's e-mail about the M113s which I believe are a sister creation, but not these items. I hope I am not wrong: http://www.oldcardboard.com/m/m113/m...?cardsetID=971 |
The Cobb (and Marquard) must be from 1911 or earlier since the Mecca double folders date to 1911. They cannot be from 1912 or later...
|

I'll let you gentlemen decide the date of the items. I know the seller's point was that Cobb's jersey and hat combination was from 1912 and was only used by the Tigers that particular year. |

This upgrade from the recent Bagger's Auction to my Sam Rice collection doesn't have great eye appeal for a SGC 40, IMHO. However, it looks EXMT to me when compared to my SGC 10 example, which is now available to trade or sell.
I'm still lacking this same 1917 Rice rookie card with the Standard Biscuit back (D350-2), of which there is only one listed in the pop reports. If anyone knows where this card resides, perhaps I can tempt its owner to part with it. Val ekehl333@aol.com |

Hey, Babe. Seemed like an especially nice one given the centering and tone.

While certainly not as pretty as Dan's (BTW, that's a really sharp looking Gibson!), I picked this off Ebay earlier this week. This is the first blue back I've been able to find any record of.

Thanks David, I think that's my favorite card of all the E90-1 poses. Every time I see it, it reminds me of "Oh my God...it's my father!" :D The colors were so vivid on that one, I hope it looks just as good in person.
DJ, great Gibson, I was an underbidder on that one too. I didn't realize it might have been the only blue example, I would have bid higher! Nice pickup. |
Awesome pickup, DJ!

A cabinet from the family of Pretzel Getzien, won from recent LOTG auction (thank you Al). In rough condition for sure (trimmed copy on left), but love the collectables with direct connection to the players themselves. The consignor explained that Pretzel Getzien was her great, great grandfather. There is a small "X" at top, left of center, by the portrait of Getzien. The consignor furthermore shared family stories such as “I rempember my Grandma telling me that his wife made all his shirts because he was so muscular he couldn’t fit in store-bought clothes! But he was embarrassed that it made him look cheap, so he wouldn’t let her tell anyone! Evidently she was a wonderful seamstress but must have told!”
Getzien's success mirrored the Detroit Wolverines with his two best seasons in 1886 (30-11) and 1887 (29-13). He led the pitching staff in 1887 and would continue into post-season with a 4-2 record against the St. Louis Browns. The second copy of the cabinet (on right) was obtained years ago and once belonged to Deacon White. I suspect all the players were given copies of this cabinet after winning the Championship in 1887. I was also able to pick up an N300 of Brouthers with decent eye appeal despite the pin hole (again from LOTG). |
Very nice Joe!!

I didn't rip this one... not as nice as the ex-Leon e104 nadja backed plank, but still crosses it off my list of want cards..

Nice pickups. What is the name of the player on the right? Isn't that Lave Cross? Kevin |
Nice, Pete, I was keenly interested, but alas...same story.

Got this bad boy in the mail today. If you add about 35-40 years, a lot of weight, and a lot less hair I looked like the kid getting his favorite player in the video this morning.:D Thank you Scott for listing a trimmed, marked, and creased, but real Teddy Ballgame Rookie that fit my budget.
|
Well done Ben!
