Wow, some very nice Mantles. I see several that are high on my want list (e.g., 1959 Bazooka, the Stahl Meyers, the Home Run Derby card, the Venezuelans).

My personal favorite is the 1957 Topps, followed by the 1958 All Star.

57 Topps sucks.

I have always liked the 1954 Red Heart. I picked up the PSA 6 around a year ago and upgraded to the PSA 8 about 6 months later.

This is my favorite because (1) I'm partial to very scarce cards, and (2) my mom fed me Briggs hot dogs when I was a kid, but I didn't save the cards because what kid wants a card with no player bio/stats on it that had to be cut off a waxy hot dog box.

Not being Mantle collector and being mostly into pre-War cards these years, I sold this beauty on eBay last summer to build up my war chest for the Heritage auction of Leon's collection.

I just got my copy last week. Some amazing stuff on some tough regionals and food issues. So thankful it is finally out given how little info there is out there about these things.

Haha, thanks Mike. Your collection gives mine a run for its money though. I wish I had some of the quality pieces you do.

....the value of these is mainly that they are decent centering......the cards themselves are pretty available . Topps centering is where the difficulty lies . To us centering weenies, anyway.......

And I know I'm not alone here.......

You are far from alone, sir. There are cards and then there are centered cards. Centering makes a specific card rare. I always wonder when I shop: given the total graded population of any key Post War card, how many of those are really dead centered?

Hells bells I see PSA 8s and 9s that have ugly centering and tilt. They do nothing for me!

jmb 05-01-2016 10:32 AM

The 57 isn't dead centered but it is well centered.

1956 has always been my favorite Mantle. 65 is also up there.

begsu1013 05-01-2016 11:05 AM

centering? now we're talking!!!

that 58 up there is amazing!!

and agreed on centering...

the 57 is one of the hardest in my opinion, probably followed by the 65/69 considering the tilt issues coupled w/ the rounded inner boarders.

here are some 57s:

there's a thread somewhere dedicated to basic centered mantles on one of the boards...
