contemplated - way back when - posting an image (okay, a google search image) of a literal "sh!t eating grin" via typed search, but...as I understand - and rightfully so - there's repercussions, so I refrained from doing so, again - way back when - (in any case, words to the wise: *think* before posting O/T or offensive/off-color stuff)

there's a time and a place for such doings, and it's NOT here on Net54...just a reminder to *think* (myself included) before you post content, as it may p!ss off one - if not many, and NOT worth the questionable/feeble attempt at humor.

unlike some of the others, this is a truly a *great* board, with minimal restrictions...nothing I can personally (scan-wise) contribute to this particular thread but loving all of the above posts - keep 'em positive/on-topic, and coming...happy collecting!

Look closely...both the left AND right sides of this card exhibit rather large gaping smiles.

"Oyster Joe" Martina pitched for 21 years in the minors and 1 year in the majors, for the 1924 world champion Washington Senators. He had a 6 - 8 won-loss record in 1924 and pitched 1 scoreless inning in the World Series. Please ignore the McGrew card, as I don't currently have a separate scan of Martina.

Another one...judging by the crinkle of his eyelinered and mascaraed eyes I would surmise that Ewing is smiling underneath his Walrus.

I can't help but wonder if Wiggs on the Obak card might have had the same mother as "Oyster Joe" Martina, or is it only me that can see the similarity.

Thanks! He's definitely a keeper.

Good Luck with yours - I'm sure he or she will be almost as cute...almost.

I know I am responding to a post nearly a year old, but I still had to respond. At one point I made it a goal of mine to find a smiling Landis photo, I was happy to add this to my collection when I found it.

HUGE Twilight Zone fan here - saw your "smiling Landis" photo and I instantly thought of THIS guy - "Marvin the Butler", Cyril Delevanti:

You wouldn't think that being surrounded by a teaming mass of boys would bring out the grin from within Landis...I would have expected another outbreak of extreme Frowny Face. Just shows you can't judge a Judge by his commissioner cover.

I believe he is 'eee-yahing', a physical feat that evidently only Hughie ever perfected.
