Ha! Good one!

Good luck Leon. I have my eye on a few...we'll have to see how many cards find their way into the hands of fellow Net54ers.

insccollectibles 07-09-2015 07:37 AM

Leon you are going to make me bankrupt :). Great items really shows your passion for collecting. If she hasn't already your daughter will realize the sacrifice and love her dad for it. That's priceless.

jburl 07-09-2015 07:56 AM

Great collection, Leon!

Leon....what made you decide to go with Heritage instead of some of the other players in the auction world? I have always been intrigued by them, but just think of them as too big to handle collections properly. Did they give you a sweet deal on commission rates?

Bobby, I think Leon already answered this question in a previous thread on his sale: Link, post #36.

This is a great collection. I'm going to go bankrupt if I am able to win even a few of the cards I really want. :)

wonkaticket 07-09-2015 03:08 PM

Great collection! Good luck with the sale Leon.

GoldenAge50s 07-09-2015 03:37 PM

Fantastic presentation!

Best of luck w/ the sales results, Leon!

VoodooChild 07-09-2015 04:00 PM

I always knew you had one hell of a collection, but seeing it all laid out like that leaves me awestruck. I had to register and bid on a few but I doubt they'll hold up.

I was a "rookie" Pre-war collector when I first joined this board 2 1/2 years ago and never even heard of type collecting. I have to imagine if you looked it up in a dictionary, your collection would be shown. Good Luck with the auction.

talkinbaseball 07-09-2015 04:02 PM

mind boggling

the more I go through this auction, that type set is mind boggling.
Frank Nagy and Lionel Carter would be smilin'.

Received this email from Heritage this morning in response to my catalog request:

"Hi Marshall,

We have had more requests for catalogs for this auction than any other.
Thank you and Good Luck!

Peter"

ethicsprof 07-09-2015 04:18 PM

the lucky leon luckey collection

I got something similar; he said it should go out in a day or two. I only put in one bid so far, but that's because I really want to take more time looking at the items.

ruth-gehrig 07-09-2015 05:14 PM

Looks amazing! I hope several net54ers can contribute to the "Leon Lucky Auction Pickup" thread. :)

Jdoggs 07-09-2015 05:39 PM

Very nice collection!!

pokerplyr80 07-09-2015 06:57 PM

They're all great cards but I love that Joe Jackson. I should stay focused on my goal to get a 52 Mantle, but may need to put that on hold for a while.

Rickyy 07-10-2015 12:44 AM

We probably won't see a wonderful type card collection like this come up for sale again for a long time... Dang I forgot Leon even had that Gilmartin Printing Issue!

I think everyone will bid aggressively to get what card(s) they want.

As Tom Cruise in the movie, Risky Business said, "Sometimes, you gotta say WTF" :D

Spartan 07-10-2015 09:59 AM

I want a catalog ! However possible

pokerplyr80 07-10-2015 11:08 PM

Just got the catalog in the mail. What an awesome collection. I've been trying to find a description that doesn't include the phrase very or extremely rare but have given up for now.

Wildfireschulte 07-11-2015 08:58 AM

I have never seen a more complete collection of tobacco boxes - truely spectacular. That collection alone has to be worth at least one semester of tuition.

clydepepper 07-11-2015 01:17 PM

Leon-

Got my catalog today - Wonderful!

Looks like I may be paying for some text books.

tbob 07-11-2015 02:31 PM

I got the Heritage Platinum auction book in the mail along with another catalogue but not one with your cards in it Leon
I've been bidding up your cards but the one I REALLY want seems to have just as an avid bidder on it as I am (you can figure out which card that is) so you should make out really well on it. (And no I am not outing the card lol).

Jobu 07-11-2015 02:47 PM

Good luck Leon, it must be both fun and a little stressful to have the auction under way.

To the non-Leon folks on Net54 - quit bidding on the item I want!! :D

big80s 07-11-2015 07:32 PM

Such a beautiful and unique collection is sure to bring some buyers out of the woodwork :)

Good luck with your sales, Leon! That catalog is a wonderful way to remember the collection you've built.

pherbener 07-12-2015 07:55 AM

Wow

I just got the catalogue yesterday. What an awesome collection!! I'm hoping to pick up a few things. This board is a great gift to collectors. I'm glad I found it. Thanks Leon!!

GregMitch34 07-12-2015 08:37 AM

Got catalog, complete with photo of Leon and daughter...

Lot #79510 Luckey Auction

Great selection of rare cards for sure! If anyone is looking at Lot #79510 and is not interested in the Hage's Al Olsen card. I would be interested in buying that card from the higher bidder after the auction. Thank you.

Great. Now they're pulling on our heart strings.

:)

Heritage pulling out all the tricks -- I'll be lucky to win anything in this auction!

bwbc917 07-12-2015 10:01 AM

Heritage

Best of luck, looks very impressive. Odd that I got the Heritage catalog for their 70's set break, but not for this. Glad you posted it.

wolfdogg 07-12-2015 10:22 AM

Great to see that the M110 Chase was verified as being signed by Chief Myers....I sold you that card several years ago not knowing it was signed by Myers....I assumed it was by some kid in 1911.....:)

worse part of me seeling the 2 M110s I once owned??
The other was a Ty Cobb....:(

good luck with the sale

pawpawdiv9 07-12-2015 10:29 AM

:( Almost everything is out of my budget.
@Leon/Heritage: Maybe they could add some 1/2 off cards next time. :p
Sweet cards Leon= Sweet prices = Sweet education

Jlighter 07-12-2015 01:38 PM

I'm watching one card now that if all cards can have a similar upward progression you'll be able to pay for graduate school as well.:)

jcmtiger 07-12-2015 10:40 PM

Watching some of the early bids, Leon, you won't have any trouble paying for your Daughter's college expenses. Looks good, Good luck

Joe

I contacted Heritage about the catalogue (long time bidder in Heritage Auctions) since I've received a ton of Heritage catalogues through the years and several recently and they told me they'd be happy to ship it to me as soon as I sent them $55.00 for it. Wow! No thanks. I'll continue bidding on your cards Leon but they can stick the $55 :-(

+1 Peter did the same for me.

edjs 07-13-2015 11:31 AM

I was going to ask for a catalog, and it just came in the mail without me saying a word. You are good....maybe scary good?

tbob 07-13-2015 12:16 PM

I got an email from Pete this morning and it's taken care of, all good. Pete is the best at Heritage and a helluva good guy. I had completely forgotten he worked at Heritage now :o

Buythatcard 07-13-2015 05:17 PM

I just received my Heritage catalogue and was very impressed by Leon's collection. Over 200 pages!

Selling your prized collection to pay for your daughter's education is a wonderful thing for a Dad to do.

DeanH3 07-13-2015 05:28 PM

Good luck on the auction Leon. As already stated, phenomenal stuff. Being in CA and having the extra sales tax added on stinks so I doubt I end up with anything. Well I did already get my Leon Luckey collection card so I did contribute early. :)

ethicsprof 07-13-2015 10:58 PM

catalog

I received mine today and the collection is breathtaking in print.
Having the collection in real life and parting with it must be an incredible loss.
One consolation is that financially it will bring quite a gain.
Or should I say GAIN!!!
best,
Barry

Enfuego 07-14-2015 06:28 AM

Got my catalog yesterday and I am still at a loss for words, i don't know where to begin to place a bid, too many goodies to choose from.

I've got the same issue here in Florida now. That's at least California, Texas, and Florida then -- the three most populous states and 27% of the country's population according to the most recent census, so I imagine there are quite a few of us in the same boat, even if those are the only states with Heritage offices.

Floridians have to pay sales tax now at Heritage? News to me.

Yup, got an email on it a few weeks ago

Touch'EmAll 07-14-2015 10:04 AM

Wow!

Amazing stuff you never see…or never knew existed…but now want! I have my eye on a certain silk, shhhh. But please tell me this, Leon, you must have saved a token few items just for keeps, not in auction, yes - would love to know what? The best of luck.

Vintagecatcher 07-14-2015 10:05 AM

Thanks for the catalog Heritage

Heritage & Leon,

Thanks for the nice catalog.

I was bidding regardless, but now I can enjoy the collection while not on the computer.

Thanks,

Patrick

sports-rings 07-14-2015 10:46 AM

Leon,

Just received my catalog and loved the coverage.

What a great reason to sell so many of your amazing pieces.

I wish you much success with the auction and best of luck to your daughter and her education!

Kawika 07-14-2015 12:35 PM

The Luckey catalog just landed in Victoria, B.C. about 15 minutes ago. Based on a quick perusal . . . Holy Moses! Over the years I have managed to assemble a pretty decent collection of books, magazines, AH catalogs etc related to baseball and card collecting. This volume will become a valued addition to my library. It's a veritable Cardboard Collecting 101. I would recommend to anyone who plans on sticking around the Hobby that they be sure to get a copy. It's a keeper.

Virtually every state with a use tax requires self-assessment if the vendor does not charge and collect sales tax as agent for the state. That is, you have an obligation to pay as consumer, even if a vendor doesn't charge you.

States like California regularly audit large purchases to ensure that consumers (both business and personal) have properly self-assessed.

It keeps tax lawyers in business.
