That card is interesting to me because it shows that there were two shades of blue applied to darken it up. I always assumed that the dark blue cards were 1 blue layer and 1 gray layer. Yet further evidence that the six-color litho process really had more layers - off the top of my head I know gray, as seen in some ghosts, rose as I have seen in color shifts and missing red cards, and now apparently a second layer of blue on some (unless this card was just run through on the blue run twice by mistake).

Bryan, here's an Oldring card where you can see the two layers of blue. The light blue was applied first, then the dark blue. In this case the dark blue shifted slightly to the right.

This question was of interest to me because I always wondered how the light blue Plank came about. This was how it was explained to me. They simply missed the dark blue pass, then scrapped the card.

Keep an eye open for Doc Williams, who is wanted for arrest in Hollister for forging checks. He is of the hobo type, prefers his whiskey straight, smokes a pipe, and enjoys saloons and basket making. His right arm is slight crooked and stiff at the elbow as a result of a pitching injury while a ball player in the east and in California, he claims. $20 reward.

Highest graded one with Turkey Red ad. Not as colorful as many but I sort of like the washed out look, sort of goes with him. Love the fence in back...

E100s are really tough to find, so finding them in any condition, especially at a decent price, is always a welcome sight.

Thank you Steven. I love the history and look of the OJ's, but my focus on T206 has not given me the opportunity to get one until a recent auction. I threw a max bid of $120 + $12BP, I didn't think I'd win it, but lo and behold :)

Jeff, congrats on the Ruth, looks great. I'm always looking for an affordable Ruth to add to my collection, nice job!

Hi Brian,
Nice pickup of the W504s of the Senators players. FYI, I intended to bid on this eBay lot just before it ended, but after leaving the Chantilly Show when it ended at 8 p.m., I went to get something to eat and forgot all about this eBay lot ending tonight until it was too late. One of these days, I just gotta subscribe to a sniping service!! If I hadn't forgotten, it would have cost you more $$ to win this lot! :)
Best,
Val

Nice pick up Brian! Some of those are unknown to Old cardboards checklist.

Jeff, nice first OJ at a great price. The 1887 Brooklyn cards are kind of neat due to being actual outdoor shots.

Steven, nice N173 of Buckenberger, a great cabinet for your collection. Are you now collecting outside of Ohio teams (based on your other N172 pick-ups)?

shernan30 07-11-2015 03:17 PM

Collecting players that played for Columbus in 1883-1884 and 1889-1891. Needed a reason to buy more OJs. (Supper addicted to the cards)

Joe, this is one of the many reasons I love this forum, I am always learning something new. I'm almost embarrassed to say, I had no idea that all the 87 Brooklyn cards were taken outdoors. That is a great tidbit to know. It will allow me to enjoy that card even more, if possible! Thank you for sharing!

Steven, nice OJ pickups, I hope I'm not getting an OJ bug. I can't afford it!

Thanks for posting. Even without the baseball reference that is one great and humorous piece of Americana.

Got this one dirt cheap--not something I'd usually grab as an "A" but one of my favorite t205s... Not expert on SGC rejection codes--I thought just "C" for color added so not sure what CLI means...156 refers to three different corners or sides...I guess... any idea about CLI ? Or maybe that's just the sellers code, most likely....

Took off the afternoon to sign for this one today. Diamond-cut with WST on reverse silhouetting Cobb's head. I know this isn't scrap because of the diamond-cut but would this be considered a "freak", an oddity, or otherwise? Doesn't matter too much, I can't put the thing down either way! Would love get some feedback from some T206 experts or anyone else who cares to chime in on this one!
