The Kellogg's issues are one of my primary collecting focuses. I have a complete run of '70-'83 all with no cracks, and am working on second sets, including my second set of the tough '71s. So, I have a little experience with the cracking. Yes, you will regularly see copies that have been graded 8 and above that have cracks. Of course, these occurred after grading. Quite simply, I don't think there is any guarantee that any Kellogg's you purchased, graded or not, will never crack. I haven't had it happen to me in graded form, yet, fingers crossed, but it has happened to a few raw copies. This may or may not hold water, but if I had a choice between two similarly graded copies of any particular PSA graded card, I would purchase one in the older holder over the newer holders. My thought being that if it has been slabbed a long time and not cracked, it is less likely to crack from the stress of being forced flat in the holder than one newly slabbed. Many of these cards have some degree of curl, if that curl is forced flat it is my experience is that cracks occur. Have actually done a little experimenting on this. If I buy them and they are flat, I keep them in holders flat, if they have curl, I leave them with the curl. Another big time Kellogg's collector suggested to me, and I have done it, to keep sets in pages in albums with the albums standing up on edge so there is no weight pressing down on the cards, and I have no issues to this point. Anyway, my two, or maybe a little more, cents worth. Good luck with them.

I guess I'll reiterate what I said a couple of years ago when this thread started. Ha ha. It seems entirely likely that the cracking/peeling/curling is a function of the local climate (read humidity). Since I've moved to the utter dryness of California, not a single crack, curl or bend has appeared on any of my Kellogg's cards. I could be wrong, but my layman's opinion says it is all about the humidity.

Well, that doesn't bode well for me in North Carolina as far as humidity goes. We aren't the worst, but certainly not great. I might try the old slabs and see how that goes. And store them as humidity-less as I can (if that's possible).

Fortunately, there is little to no value in slabbed Kellogg's "8's"

I have a cracked 1970 Kellogg's, in a 10 slab. That's disappointing, of course.

I have my 1970 set in 9 pocket pages, but what I also did was take top holders, trimoff the three sides so they fit in the pages and inserted the cards between the holders.

Essentially each pocket of the 9 pockets holds a single card and two hard plastic sheets.

Haven'thad a single curl or crack.
