About 5 or 6 years ago...maybe longer, time is escaping me, I went to our local "World's biggest garage sale" event where there are probably 200+ vendors set up selling their junk. Unbelievably I had been there for almost an hour and this was still on a guy's table for Ten whole freaking dollars. I noticed it was all sports and didn't even flip through them...I immediately paid and took them to my car. Re-entered the show to look for more goodies and after a few hours I went home to finally crack into this collection. All three biggies were in there. I sent the Gretzky and Bird off to PSA and was pleased, but I really thought they deserved 9's. The Magic I did not send because of a printing flaw on the right edge. One of my better finds.

I have Bird and Magic but regret not getting a Gretzky when they were more affordable. That's an amazing find. As I've posted elsewhere, Sportscaster is an amazing source of rookie cards in many sports. To name just a few examples, McEnroe, Lendl, Tom Watson, Larry Holmes, Sugar Ray Leonard, Ed Moses, Steve Prefontaine.

Incredible pickup. I loved those as a kid and recently picked up a decent amount of those in a collection I bought.

The Sportscaster Set is one of my favorite sets.
I was an original subscriber as a senior in high school in 1977 and stopped at some point in college. I subscribed thru series #48: Series 1-3 @ 2.28 each series Then 3 series at a time for $6.38 total So I spent around $100 total for the first 48 series...I likely stopped because I needed beer and gas money for college. But years later I went back and completed the 2,184 card set (series #1-88 and series #101-103 of 24 cards each)...I also have the green filing tray, the sportscaster booklet, all 18 filing card dividers, all 28 leaflets, all 21 digests, the coin, some promo cards, a blank back card and lots of variations...I think there is also a blue filing tray. They are great for autographs...I have 53 of them signed...30 baseball, 15 football, 2 hockey, 2 boxing, and 1 basketball, 1 golf, 1 tennis and 1 track and field...makes a nice display. I've noticed the Pele cards going up lately.
IMO the Sugar Ray Leonard is a great bargain. |

UK Version
I am compiling a checklist for the UK versions of these cards and was wondering if any members have any of these cards on hand in their collection? Seeing that this version of the sets doesn't have and checklists added. If you have any of the UK cards for the Sportcasters sets please list below the card number and Name for the card. I will add to my listings and hopefully complete a checklist for each series.

Swedish version
I am compiling a checklist for the Swedish versions of these cards and was wondering if any members have any of these cards on hand in their collection? I somehow managed to hang on to a Johnny Bench Sportscaster card all of these years. It looks like it saw some action, however. I hadn't seen one of those flip boxes in a long time. It was a pretty ambitious set and I remember feeling a little overwhelmed about collecting them when I was a kid.
