Yes, I'm still looking for a Wise-Washington OJ, as well as Morrill-Washington. As you know, both of these players are relatively easy to find with Boston, but quite tough to find with Washington. I'm not picky about condition (hint, hint!).

So much eye candy, I love it!! Nice Ewing Jay. I was surprised to see an 1887 version of Ewing surface when none had been documented for so long. We knew he was photographed in 1887, but no N172 to show for it.

I will post some of my favorite Detroit cards when I have time to do them justice (new scanner). In the meantime, I will post a recent N172 pick-up of mine that was previously only known as an N173 (locked up in the Wharton-Tigar collection at the British Museum). It is an ugly card but the only known copy of this pose as an N172 (although I'm sure there are others). Beatin played on the 1887 Detroit Wolverine team so I collect him even though he was not issued a card with Detroit. My expectation of actually checking this pose off my want list was nil to none.

Nice pickup Joe, that card is on my list also.

Jay- when I first showed you that inventory list (with photos) back in 2001, were you aware of the significance of that card, or was it something you learned about later on?

Incredible cards, thank you to the OP.... the close ups on some of the images in this thread are beyond stunning.

I recently started collecting NYs & Brooklyns.... this is a good opportunity to share the additions (as a grouping) with those who have been nice enough to chat with me about OJ & 19th century cards, and also those who helped add to the collection.

The cards in this thread would make one hell of a starter set. :)

It was there Jay. I still have the photocopies she made for me. At the time I thought it was simply a common HOFer.

In that case I missed it. I might have been more focused in on the three Gypsy Queen HOF cards.

Kevin, gorgeous cards that rarely surface. I really like the Baldwin & Vaughn. The Vaughn must have been at far left border of uncut sheet. The O'Connell isn't half bad either.

is there any 1 pose of Hoy that is tougher than the others???
always wondered because I rarely see this pose offered...usually see the batting or throwing pose

I would agree that pose 3 (Stooping to field grounder) is his toughest as it was only issued in 1888. All his other poses were either issued in both 1888 and 1889 or just 1889 with the 1889 cards being more common than the 1888 examples. Nice card.

Thanks, Joe! I'm pretty happy with all the tough ones I have acquired over the years. Most of them are in pretty decent shape picture-wise. I might post a few more later and one is a tad ugly! :D

Did John Dreker put you up to asking that question? He'll never let me live that down. I saw a Taylor Shafer once at a Fort Washington show, but by the time I got back to the seller who had it you had already bought it! :( So, if you ever want to sell it...

That particular Visner has one of the best pictures I have ever seen on an Old Judge card. The scan doesn't do it justice. Brooklyn had those god-awful uniforms that looked like graph paper and you can see the lines in his shirt and pants. I had zero interest in him as a player, but when I saw the image I just had to have it. It also helped that it looks like someone just stole his beer money! :D

I agree that the Visner card has an incredible image. Visner looks to be a mean sucker - I wouldn't want to incur his wrath!
