Impressive work...I like how you have gradually assembled the sheet arrangement. Kudos on your matchmaking skills!

A few more . . .
The last one isn't definitive on its own, but based on previous matches, the first one implies that 118 & 94 should be top-to-top and I wanted to show confirmation that that's plausible. Thanks for tracking these, Spike! . |

Thanks to Net54 contributors in this thread and the dodgy trimming of Batter-Ups (hehe), these are the confirmed high series print sheets. I feel good about these layouts, based on multiple sources here and elsewhere online.
I remain intrigued by National Chicle's choice to create a top-to-top card seam along the middle of each sheet, as shown by the solid middle line. Am I overlooking an obvious reason for that kind of layout? Perhaps so. Further feedback and ideas welcome. :-) |

Which leads to this question...was the card layout on these two sheets 5 down by 8 across, or is the layout similar to the high numbers, with 7 down and 8 across? And if 7 x 8 layout is considered more likely, that would point toward possibly 16 double prints on each sheet. I can't remember Matthew...has any work been done on the low number 1-40 and 41-80 sheets? And are there low numbers that appear to be more common, which would lead one to believe it was a 7 x 8 card sheet configuration with double prints? Thanks for sharing all your Batter-Up efforts. Great job!
I think the slightly larger dimensions of 1-80 probably support a 5x8 sheet layout. It’s a shame that the plain backgrounds won’t allow for any sort of recreation though. |
Also I like how the font sizes that I noted on post #17 line up to the sheets. I have pasted that list below, with the sheet identified by Mathew for these number in parenthesis, and just for fun an indication whether it is on the left half of the sheet or the right half:
--Smallest size font (6 total) - Identified as Group A 100, 102, 139, 143, 157, 158 (All 6 on Sheet Two on left side) --Next size (36 total) - Group B 82, 83, 84, 86, 87, 88, 91, 92, 94, 95, 96, 98, 99, 101, 104, 105, 106, 108, 111, 115, 117, 119, 120, 122, 124, 126, 131, 132, 135, 137, 138, 150, 151, 155, 159, 163 (1 on Sheet One - #163 on right, and 35 on Sheet Two - 21 on left, 14 on right) --Next size larger (34 total) - Group C 90, 97, 103, 107, 109, 110, 114, 116, 118, 121, 125, 127, 129, 134, 136, 142, 144, 147, 148, 149, 152, 153, 156, 160, 165, 166, 168, 169, 170, 173, 176, 180, 181, 182 (20 on Sheet One - 5 on left, 15 on right, and 14 on Sheet Two - all 14 on right) --Next size up (16 total) - Group D 85, 89, 93, 113, 141, 145, 146, 154, 171, 172, 175, 177, 179, 183, 184, 187 (15 on Sheet One - 9 on left, 6 on right, 1 on Sheet 2 - #146 on left) --Next up (11 total) - Group E 112, 123, 128, 130, 133, 162, 164, 178, 185, 188, 190 (All 11 on Sheet One - 5 left, 6 right) --Next larger again (4 total) - Group F 167, 174, 186, 191 (All 4 on Sheet One on left) --Absolutely the largest (5 total) - Group G 81, 140, 161, 189, 192 (All 5 on Sheet One on left) Brian |

The #1-80 series of Batter-Up cards shows better quality control than #81-192 and known miscuts _imply_ they followed numerical sequence on print sheets. These images show 3 to the left of 4 and 5 to the left of 6, so 5x8 sheets could start at #1 and run 8 cards wide. A narrow white border separates each card and miscuts show far less of their adjacent neighbors. Open to any other thoughts about sheet construction.

I had a few of these cards and decided to put together the Yankees.
In this thread there is a discussion about the high and low numbers being two separate issues. The argument for why it is considered a single issue is the sequential numbering 1-80 for the lows and 81-192 for the highs, and that no players are in both series. Lefty Gomez and Bill Dickey appear in both series. This is a great series and hope others will share their knowledge like how these were distributed and show a wrapper or box or advertizement if any exist. I also hope someone picks up the project of laying out the sheets! |
