Added a couple more WWII Service baseballs in the last couple weeks. Also, back from the painter, I had an Albert Belle portrait ball done. On the back, she added the bobblehead caricature of his famous muscle pose.
|
Just got this back from the framer - 1940 signed D DiMaggio and Ted Williams Burke photos with unsigned Doerr in the middle (unknown photographer). The fuzzy pic is how the photos looked hanging in an Oregon bar for over 70 years - I bought the incorrect Doerr photo but decided to frame it anyway. Pic is a screen grab from a youtube video of a tour of the bar just before it closed in 2012. Makes me wish I was a Red Sox fan.
|
The pictures and framing turned out great. I am sure you are very pleased.
|
Scott, that came out great! Congrats
|
Thanks, yes - very happy with the results. The guys at Dick Blick are always great to work with. They were both baseball history-knowledgeable, and really got into the four projects we worked on. I'm sure the others will turn out just as nice.

Signed Boarding Pass??
Really neat item. Dated April 16 1984, this boarding pass is for a flight to Indianapolis Indiana. It is signed on the back by five college basketball stars who were on their way to the campus of the University of Indiana, where the U.S. Olympic trials were being held. Among those to sign is Michael Jordan, who would go on to dominate the trials and earn gold for the U.S. before...well...you know the rest.

Kreindler painting displays
Jackson with fan letter that he saved, and Ruth with autograph. These look 10x better in real life, but I can't seem to get good pics.
|
Scott - WOW!!!
|
Impressive and beautiful displays. I have some items from the Roy Pitts collection, which is where your Jackson letter originated from.
|
I'm embarrassed to even post my measly pickups...:o

Shoeless Joe & Babe
Scott,
Very tastefully done! Very nice. :) |
Thanks, guys. Forgot to mention that these are both feature paintings by Graig Kreindler. Luckily he did not have studies that paired up with any of my other autographs or I would be much poorer!

Hopefully, the end result will be a nice framed piece with these cards and the original ticket stubs my dad I have from the game. |

Added a couple of new items from the recent Hunt Auction. Great prices in this one!
Added #222 with Tony Lazzeri and an Indianapolis Indians (team signed) ball including Roger Maris. Being in Indianapolis, this was a big one I wanted to add! |
Great pickups
|
Very nice
I thought about bidding late on the Maris ball but decided against it because I had just gotten a rookie era Maris Indians signed postcard.
Congrats on these two. Tom C |

When did he change from "Maras"?
|
Quote:
Roger Eugene Maris was born in Hibbing, Minn., on Sept. 10, 1934, but was still an infant when his family moved to Fargo. N.D. The family name was Maras, but he changed it legally in 1955 to Maris. http://www.nytimes.com/learning/gene...bday/0910.html |

Speaking of Zimmerman, here is a Bob Dylan autograph I picked up last week during a trip through the southern part of the country (shameless plug as it is for sale in the BST :-) )

Fatass? No idea. Tom C |
I think it was simpler than that: Mare Ass

Actually its true that is why he changed his name , but according to my good friend former major leaguer the late Pete Whisenant the players nickname for him was ROGER -RED ASS .....Most often used behind his back or to get his goat .....according to Pete he was sensitive about it and would throw him into a rage. For obvious reasons the opposition would use this to their advantage

Would love a signed '34 Goudey at some point, though don't expect to see or get one in a price range I'd go for... and am very happy with this one. |
Just thrilled as it has been a slow 2014 regarding purchases.

I do not generally purchase vintage team signed baseballs, as I usually find the boldness of the actual signatures are considerably less than the level shown in listing photographs. Given that this ball is a more recent vintage, that was not as much of a factor. Nothing extraordinary, but it is a nice clean & dated team signed baseball by the 1968 International League Champions Toledo Mud Hens. Purchased from Frogtown Books, out of Toledo. Very fast delivery as package just arrived yesterday. |
