Leon 03-08-2014 08:24 AM

Last day to bid. Still some great buys to be had......and this is our biggest auction yet so we want to thank all of our consignors and bidders.

And please remember, we are still at a very low 12.5% total Buyers Premium. (add that to our reasonable shipping charges and you save quite a bit)

The closing will be by individual lot this evening (and probably a little into tomorrow morning)...Good luck!!

Is this a new closing method for this auction? There are so many auction closing rules to remember, but I thought B-L use to be an entire auction closing with the ability to change your bids to another lot in extended bidding even if you hadn't bid prior (similar to sterling).

I like the auction ending style! 11:45, I won my lots and I'm ready for bed (after a couple more beers). Great auction guys!

+1. Awesome auction. I won all three lots I bid on, I won them by 11:30, and I won them at prices I am very happy with. Thanks for an awesome auction. I cannot wait until the next one.

sb1 03-08-2014 10:11 PM

We have done the individual closings the last couple of auctions. It gets the bidding to a higher level sooner and allows the bidder to win the lot, not stay up all night and wait for someone else to catch him napping. As a plus to the consignor we see a significant amount of bid activity in a short period of time which in most cases results in better results for them as well. Everybody wins.

YankeeCollector 03-09-2014 06:08 AM

Great Auction. Won all 3 lots and couldn't be happier. It's so refreshing to have an honest auction house nowadays as my max for one of my lots was not even remotely reached.

great auction

B&L:

Picked up the Walter Johnson exhibit, went to bed and lost out on the Zeenut crazy pose though.
There's always next time.

Great job,

Great auction with some absolutely insane prices on the Nadja's (Jennings=$924, Lajoie=$1504, Knight=$1821). Didn't get as many as I was hoping, but did still manage to pick up 3 for my set.

Asked a question via email to the guys just 80 minutes before close, at what must have been busy time for them, and got reply--from each of them! And ended up winning the item. So service pays off....

Thanks Daryl, glad to see you got the McLean. I just got my invoice and I have to say $12 shipping for ever $2k in cards is much more tolerable then the quotes showing up in the Legendary shipping thread.

Won a very neat e92 Nadja Hartsell that's missing a color pass (or two). Card I won is on the left....how the card SHOULD look is on the right.

Also won a very nice t204 McAleer PSA 5 for my set. Thanks Leon and Scott!

Agreed!! Very fair shipping costs. I only came away with 2 T206 HOF upgrades (Lajoie Batting SGC 30 and Griffith Portrait SGC 40) plus my 1st E101 (Harry Davis), but a really well run auction. I love the fact that I was able to log out by midnight!

And again, if anyone won the Cycle lot that had Dode Paskert in it, I'm really trying to finish my back run, so I'd be willing to pay strongly for it!! :D

Griffins 03-09-2014 11:29 AM

I picked up an oval frame Ramly Anderson, goes well with the square frame one I just worked out a deal on.
Great auction guys, and love the lot by lot closing. Was glad not to have to sit up late knowing I'd be losing an hour already with daylight savings hitting today.

SGC 60 purple Collins

I won the T206 purple Collins. I have never seen that color variation, thought it was really impressive. It's funny because someone just had a thread up about color variations for T206s, Greg I believe.

Thanks from B & L

A big thank you to all of the bidders and consignors, without either faction this auction would not have been possible. We were able to offer nearly 700 lots of quality items, many of which brought record prices. The individual closing allows bidders to get to the point and not drag it out all night long, and judging by the prices realized the consignors also benefitted from a few all out bidding wars.

The next auction will be late September/early October and we already have people committing items. Please feel free to contact Leon or myself if you want to be a part of it.

Great Auction and the individual lot closing is a super idea. I am very happy with my American Caramel Babe Ruth, "Holding Ball".

Sorry for bumping that Hartzell with 2 seconds left but it was a back up after being out bid on another card. If I wasn't so far in on some other cards I would have bid higher on that one. It was a nice one and I think you got a great deal.

Yeah, sweet Hartsell Brian. I was high bidder most of the auction, but glad to see it went to a good home!

Hey Andy, no worries at all! That was some kind of timing you had...I was watching the clock count down on that and all I know is I had it with 7 seconds to go and next thing I know it's in the "outbid" list. I was like "what the...." :)

I agree that shipping is much more reasonable with B&L than Legendary. For B&L, my shipping cost was $10 for a graded card that I won for around $1K. For Legendary, it was nearly $19 for an 8x10 photo which was around $300.

Bosox Blair 03-10-2014 11:14 AM

Another great auction, Scott & Leon - congrats!!!

It wasn't really a sleeper, I had my eye on it, but I am new to collecting, and have so many cards I need. I was looking more to build my Monster than go after just the rare backs (though I am kind of fond of the different backs). So I got these:

MyGuyTy 03-10-2014 01:36 PM

Really was a great auction guys, looking forward to the next one. Didnt come away with anything this time as I was outbid on a few Cocoas that went way past what I thought they would close at. Oh well, it was fun and I really like the format ;-)

MVSNYC 03-10-2014 01:43 PM

Ed- a (relatively) clean HOF Hindu for $275 is a sleeper in my book. i was prepared to pay more than i did...if i had to.

These two sold for $4,700 in 2008 and $2,200 in 2012. Picked them up for about $1,100. An ominous trend, but what the heck. :D:D:D

I was looking at it as a steal, not a sleeper. I wanted oh so badly to outbid you, but I decided to go for a couple other auctions. I was going for the lot of 29 with HOFs, and, for a short while, the John Titus. If I had thrown in on your (at that time Leon's) Hindu, I would have run the risk of winning more than I could afford. As it was I only got the one lot. If I had known how it all was going to pan out, I would have gone for the Hindu instead of the Titus, but hey, hind sight is 20/20. In the end, I am perfectly satisfied with my four card lot, and have to admit, I like this auction.

bn2cardz 03-10-2014 04:55 PM

I did win this very affordable lot of photos. I figured at under $11 per image I couldn't go wrong.

Great auction Leon & Scott! My payment went out this morning.

Won one lot and was outbid on another, but I'm very happy with the lot I won!

Congrats to whomever won the 1911 Telegram to Snodgrass.

Here is the lot I won. I could hear Johnny V. in my ear saying "bid again Jantz"! :)

Great pickups! I really had wanted that Bartell -- but misunderstood the closing by lot auction rules. I was the underbidder, and thought I had until after dinner to place another bid. Alas, when I got home, the lot was already closed.
