Not true, Ken. He was honest. Not only did he say that JSA and PSA rejected it, he went further by stating that in his own opinion it was a forgery.
He shouldn't have been selling it, but, hey, one can't describe that ball more honestly than he did.

Jim Clemmons was offered $1450.00 by AAU and rejected it because he got greedy thinking he could "cash in" on his own stupidity.

Then him (or someone else) lists that crap on Ebay (with full disclosure) so he can try to recoup his $1450.00.

I hope Mr. Clemmons enjoys his $1450.00 sandwich, plus his $200 snack (JSA fee).

Are you being serious? There is never a good excuse for selling a fake.

Big Dave 03-02-2014 03:49 PM

People sell fakes all the time.

Secretarial, autopen, traced over, batboy, etc.

As long as it is disclosed, I don't have a problem with it.

Yes, I'm serious. I didn't try to justify his selling it. What I did was express my--strong--disagreement with the contention that the seller is as sleazy as the--knowingly lying--authenticator.

johnmh71 03-03-2014 04:47 AM

What if the buyer wants to flip it and doesn't provide the same information?

Of course that is the customer the seller is hoping for. Why would anyone pay thousands of dollars for a fake unless he thought he could flip it as real and make a profit?

If it was $100 and sold as a replica, one could make the argument it is a legit sale. But thousands?

I was just offered this ball in an e mail apparently from the guy who bought it in the auction.
We have had an interesting e mail exchange :D.

earlywynnfan 03-05-2014 09:33 AM

You mean somebody bought it off ebay??

The first original buyer contacted me, the one from the original news story. The guy who thought it was a $50K ball

He did not quote me a price and I rejected the ball immediately and told him what I thought of the ball and of him.
In his e mail subject line to me were the words: "Would you be interested in buying this Babe Ruth ball"
One of the funny lines in his following e mails said: "I thought maybe you could help but was I wrong."
He never asked for my help, all he did was try to sell the ball to me and claim that the interview did not tell his story completely.
I do not, for the life of me, know why he thought I could help or why I would even help him in this instance.
btw - He did mock us all here on 54 when I told him that people are mocking him on an internet forum.

Mr. Zipper 03-05-2014 04:34 PM

He should have taken the money AAU offered him and run. Lesson learned with no monetary loss.

But apparently he is bent on flipping a fake for a profit. The greed and/or stupidity of some people is beyond belief.

Man, I've been watching Pawn Stars for a long time and was not aware of this Drew Max character or the "Al" screw up from the other guy. Glad I joined these forums, you guys have already blown my mind! ha

The funny thing is...even though Drew blew it a couple times on the show, he actually got more right than he gets right on a daily basis. :)which is close to zero. I think it was John R who blew it in his "one hit wonder" replacement for Drew?:p

Now it's Steve Grad who is their go to guy as you probably know

On Craigslist near me now. http://annapolis.craigslist.org/clt/4346155677.html

Up,for sale.
Babe Ruth Authenticated baseball with COA from Pawn Stars famed Drew Max. The ball,is beautiful but I will state JSA believes it is not authentic.
I am selling the ball only with the fact that it comes with AAU backing and I will not offer any refunds so the buyer takes the risk. Anyone wanting a nice ball complete with a valid COA for their collection may be quite interested in this ball. Do not buy this ball with the expectation of re-selling for a profit as you probably would be disappointed. I know I was after what JSA said.
$5000 or,best offer.
I will only meet in a public place and will only take cash or a cashiers check.. No,personal checks.

callou2131 03-10-2014 08:44 AM

Just noticed he has a bunch of listings on craigslist ranging from $2500 to $5000. Most he stated that JSA found it fake. In this one however, He fails to mention that and is pairing it with a JSA Mantle ball to make it look legit.
http://baltimore.craigslist.org/clt/4365751240.html

Babe Ruth has COA from AAU for $2500
Mickey Mantle has COA from JSA for $500
Buy both for $2750
Will meet in public location only .

There's a good chance, that will be Jim's (Clemmons) next stop.

Big Dave 03-10-2014 10:47 AM

If he consigns that ball to CC, he would probably get his money back and maybe some profit. Some bidder that doesn't know it's history will buy it.

RichardSimon 03-10-2014 07:35 PM

Aside from being stupid Jim is certainly a quality honest guy.:eek:

and there's nothing wrong with that in the long run. People are just very stupid in general. I do give Jim the honesty points despite being a confirmed legal moron.
