If you want my opinion, go see John Taube (he's in Southern NJ). He would need to see it in person, look at it, hold it, check it for Mantle player characteristics, see if it exhibits use of a switch hitter, etc. also, there were very subtle changes year to year with labeling and the placement of "Powerized", so once in hand, John can confirm Mantle use (or not), and possibly pinpoint it to a particular year.
Very exciting! best of luck. PS- you might consider having it lightly restored, but i'd consult with John on that. Here's my M110. circa 1955-1958. |

Mantle Bat
Great bat! The bat from what I see is in fact from 1961 and matches the 2 33 oz orders. 1961 was the last year that Reg. U.S.Pat.Off. lined up under the period in Louisville. located in the center label.
An example and better description of this type marking can be found with a Roger Maris 1961 016 model gamer which sold several years ago for around 8K from Hunt Auctions. Just check previous auctions for them and you will find it. Maris only ordered 1 batch of O16 model bats from the 1961 year. You have a very nice bat and highly collectible. Also you may try putting it under a black light and seeing if there is any trace of his uniform playing number on either end....which would further tie the bat to Mantle. My take--and on track. Good luck with have John look at the bat. |
Sicollector, Maris had two orders of 016 in 1961. and Reg. U.S.Pat.Off. lined up until 1964.
