Can any of you advanced W572 collectors verify the various number of copyright variations? I have seen four variations:

1) The easy to find 'S' which is preceded by the copyright symbol containing an "I" and an "F" within the copyright circle. What does the "S" or "IFS" stand for?
2) "U+U", which I presume is Underwood & Underwood
3) "FM", which I presume is Felix Mendelsohn.
4) "P+A, which I do not know what it stands for. Does anyone?

Are there more?

I've tracked similar copyright variations on the Neilson's V61 Canadian issues. The "S" version comes both with and without the "IF" inside the circle. There are also the U+U, FM, and P+A varieties. I's bet that the W572s also come with and without the IF inside the circle.

The IFS stands for International Feature Service. They owned the rights to the images I believe and the IFS is featured on several sets if I remember correctly. I think the same logo is on the W516 set. I think they mainly owned rights to comic strips at the time and earned royalties when their comics were featured in newspapers of the time.

If I'm wrong, please let us know, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

I don't know about the other symbols.

Thanks,

AndyH

Bill, you are correct that the W572's with the "S" version come with and without the "IF" within the circle. The version without the "IF" is much less common.
