Never really saw myself getting back into e107s and still don't for that matter but I stumbled into one tonight I liked and am happy to have won it!

By the way...I'm in the chat now...seems to be doing ok....

Ok, I saw your response... I got booted out of chat for a second.

Good job, Brian. I saw that Keeler foundering and almost bid today, but had too much on my plate.

Got the n173 Keefe yesterday, which looks like it could be a scarcer n173 pose and followed up tonight with the 1889 Boston Imperial cabinet. I can still brag that I have never paid more than $1400 for a baseball card. Thanks to Doug and folks for a great auction. I wanted the Clinton Keefe too, but that's how it goes.

Did anyone here get this? I'm surprised it went so low... I didn't even bother with a placeholder bid so I wasn't able to bid in extended time:

oldjudge 02-28-2013 11:54 PM

It went cheap, but it is in two pieces, really ugly, and no one is sure what it is.

Matthew H 02-28-2013 11:57 PM

Heritage tried to sell one of Danny Richardson but it failed to make the opening bid of 7500... It looks like a card, have you seen one before?

tlwise12 03-01-2013 12:01 AM

Guys

Matt and jay,

I was considering a bid on that item... I think it's a really cool piece, but like you guys I have no idea what it is.

I don't know why Legendary thought it might be a CDV. I don't think so... Maybe once a large composite? The card size itself is fairly big so it would need to be pretty big.

RCMcKenzie 03-01-2013 12:11 AM

The Legendary auction style is sort of like musical chairs. I ended up with the 2 items I most wanted going in, but would have bid on alot of other stuff knowing now what they sold for after the fact. I thought the Gerhardt was a card I could win going in, and it turns out I could have/should have won it.

packs 03-01-2013 12:17 AM

I bought the Walter Johnson 1908 postcard. I thought it was a special piece. I like the idea of the Big Train sitting down and writing a postcard to his friend after a win. It was only a few months into his second big league season. Signed Walter J.

Thanks Peter! Why would it be strange that SGC would label as both? I have several rookies (Stargell, T. Perez, etc..) where their practice is the same.

ullmandds 03-01-2013 06:08 AM

I don't know? I guess I don't really have any modern...slabbed cards?! You just don't see designations like that on vintage cards?!

Too bad it didn't have a Weiser Wonder front!!! Cool item nonetheless.

As for me, I came away with the 1915 PM1 Eppa Rixey and the 1942 Musial press photo. I had looked, but never found, an online image of the Rixey pin until this auction! Very happy to get it for relatively cheap. I was certainly willing to pay significantly more for it.

It's not baseball, but for the first time I won a lot in
Legendary/(Mastro) Auctions. I feel I got this at a
great price too!

I'm a big collector of Philadelphia Caramel sets, so
I now have the E33 set checked off my list.

It was cut from a larger composite which had quite a few photos on it.

Congrats on the 1889 Boston cabinet - I was the underbidder and wanted to go one more bid, but just couldn't. Fabulous piece - I love it!

T206Collector 03-01-2013 07:24 AM

Second time I've owned this one -- paid about nearly 4x what I paid for it the first time. Not sure that's a sustainable business model, but I am quite pleased to have this Doyle back in my collection.

Legendary

I was watching a few E107 lots, and was surprised by the final prices on some. I thought the Wagner would've gone higher than it did. A SGC 40 sold for $133,000 6 years ago, and with this being the highest graded card in the hobby, I was thinking around $175K.

The type 2's didn't seem to generate a lot of interest either.

Just my opinion,
Tony

Ditto. I was expecting $160-175k on the Wagner. Somebody got a deal on that grossly undervalued card.

I thought the e107's went pretty cheap. Think the flood of them on the market right now didn't help. Got this one, wished I pulled the trigger on a few more.

Nice pickups everyone!

Pete-

Nope, unfortunately. That would have been nice. Can't wait to see what the next Legendary auction brings with the collection!

Very special Johnson piece, Packs--congrats! I got some great stuff, including Walter's autographed 50th birthday menu "scorecard" and the scored program from his 110th and final shutout game, one of the few records that is guaranteed to never be broken, plus some terrific Senators pieces. What a smorgasbord for Washington collectors this was, from the Kent Feddeman collection. Don't know about the cards, but I thought this was a real buyer's auction on the memorabilia side, lots of "bargains" to be had.

Same thinking here - it has no advertising on either the front or the back, so doubtful it's a cdv, or a card.

Very special in my opinion. I wanted it, but dropped out in the extended bidding to go after other things. Last night was kind of frustrating - lots of stuff I wanted, but having the 30-minute rule end at the same time for all of them meant I had to drop out on several things. Then ended up with 2/3 of my budget left :(

Only picked up one item, but I really like it:

triwak 03-01-2013 10:44 AM

I tried to register for last night's session, about 10 hours before extended bidding. Never received the confirmation email, and couldn't bid!! Sux, as I might have made a real play for the 1877 J. Wood Red Stockings cabinet. When was the deadline for registering?

I used to own this, had it framed this way. Only Washington example I've ever seen. Are your other Cravats one of a kind?

I have seen two of Bedient, Dooin, Mathewson, and Speaker. Otherwise, only one of Ainsmith, Archer, Bender, Caldwell, Coombs, Doyle, Konetchy, Lavender, McGraw, Sweeney, Thomas, Tinker, and Walsh. I haven't seen Baker, McInnis, Meyers, Rucker, or Tesreau yet...and there are likely more that remain uncataloged.

Most that I have seen are in poor condition and show stitch marks. Tik and Tik had a large lot of them 15+ years ago that came from the same source. I am guessing that is where this Ainsmith originally came from as well. Somebody must have stitched several together. Funny that most of the surviving Cravats came from a homemade banner.

Scott, that card is really nice. I was looking at it extensively. E107's are outside of my realm, so I didn't participate, especially after my most recent pickup. But that is a nice looking card. You got a good one.

Cheers.

Thanks Cy. I have no real idea as to value on these, so just went after a few with nice images. I'm curious what other E107 winners (at the low end, with me) think of the prices last night.

Low! Except for the Fielder Jones card.

Matthew H 03-01-2013 01:04 PM

I'm a bit surprised no one bought the complete set when it was offered... Maybe the price was unreasonable? With judgement based on last nights prices alone, it seems there won't be a whale going after the whole set. There are still quite a bit left to sell, does anyone know if the rest will be auctioned the same way?

Seiklis 03-01-2013 01:11 PM

I was watching the Fultz like a hawk but didn't go for it. Came out 200 cheaper than I expected

glchen 03-01-2013 01:55 PM

I ended up winning the PM1 Ornate Pin for Ruth. I am almost positive it is authentic. I found that the Bressler PM1 pin does exist since it was sold in an older Legendary auction. However, I still have a grain of doubt. Any PM1 pin experts out there who think they can tell if the inside photo was replaced?

tennisguy 03-01-2013 02:01 PM

E107s

I thought prices were overall soft on the commons. A few went below what I expected and a few went above what I expected. HOF'ers held their own I thought. The Wags, who knows? I don't know what to think about that one?

I wonder if any whales were feeding on some of the commons last night?

bcbgcbrcb 03-01-2013 02:50 PM

I thought that prices on day 2 overall were a little stronger than day one. I would consider day 2 prices to be as expected where I would say day 1 was below expectations, at least from my BB HOF rookies perspective.
