Fred Van Dusen was also in attendance, and threw out the first pitch..
Also, found this little bit of info about De Los Santos and Greenberg.. On March 10, 2011, De Los Santos signed a contract with the Long Island Ducks. Meanwhile, Adam Greenberg the batter who was hit by Santos was playing for the rival Bridgeport Bluefish for several years and the two had never played in the same professional league together since the beaning incident. In 2011 there were several opportunities presented where the two would face each other for the first time since then. On 4/29/2011 Greenberg singled in his first at bat against Santos in Bridgeport. |
With all the negative drug publicity baseball has gotten, its nice to see a feel good story. Nothing wrong with this, i love it. Too bad for him that he had to face a knuckleballer who is having a Cy Young year.
I have one of his baseball cards from when he first came up, and cant wait to get the new one in next year's set. Besides, like me, he is a nice jewish boy. :D |
Since every thread needs a T206:D.... Hunky Shaw also had one major league at bat (a strikeout) in May 1908. A descent player without the talent of Ty Cobb, but twice the anger management issues. Shaw was arrested twice in his career for assaulting umpires during play (1920 Edmonton & 1927 Yakima).
Don't mind the sentiment behind Greenbergs' one-day contract, but why didn't the Cubs offer the contract? |
I was at the game last night. Very cool moment. Wanted to see him at least make contact though...
