1938 Minneapolis Millers with Ted Williams
Finally got a photo of this (12 x 20"):
|
Very nice, Scott, never saw that version before. Those I have seen (stadium premiums) have Ted in the back row of the team photo.

Thanks guys. It was in a ghastly frame, but when unincarcerated, was luckily untrimmed and gently tucked into corner holders.
|
A big thank you to Adam for making this piece available to me :D

Thats a beautiful photo of the 1938 Minneapolis Millers. I love the Schuykill Haven pin as well. I dated a girl from there many years ago your pin is far more attractive. These are my most recent original photo acquisitions: 1934 Pirates Spring Training L-R Chas. Lucas, Gus Suhr, Larry French, Pie Traynor, Fred Lindstrom, Paul and Lloyd Waner, 1941 Slaughter, 1960s Cepeda By Ken Regan.

I know it sounds like I enjoy it, but I hate to do battle with people over slabbing unless it involves crooks. Obviously, I think it was a bad move for the hobby, but I feel the same way about card slabs even though, as you pointed out, photos are not actually graded. There are people on both sides of such issues, like everything else. |
A nice Gehrig Type 1. Approx 3x4 in size. Never seen a regular photo slabbed by SGC like this before. As an autograph collector as well, I love the content of him signing autos for kids.

Thanks Steve.

Is SGC starting to slab Type Photos now? The thing I don't like about PSA is that they only encapsulate 8x10's or near it. I like photos slabbed for protection also.

Gary,
I have no idea. This the first time I have seen an SGC slabbed photo. it's smaller, so it probably sits in an Exhibit card size holder. I've always liked the black surround of the SGC holder as a contrast for cards and even this picture. Scott, I agree with you about slabbing. I don't care for it, and wouldn't spend my own money to do it. I bought the picture this way. I'm tempted to crack it out, but I do kinda like the way this one looks in it. |

I also agree with the SGC black background slab for providing contrast, and also uniformity for display of your favorite pieces that are not from the same set. Though generally against slabbing, I do understand the benefits and I sometimes take advantage of them. |
Clint and Hank - awesome trade.
great, great items! |

Got this ball at an estate sale yesterday...it's a 1948 team signed Lincoln Athletics ball with Nellie Fox signature. This ball has been at the top of my wantlist for a long time.

Wow Dan, that's an incredible piece. Congratulations. |
Thanks Clint...they showed a picture of the ball on their website...I was anxious about it all week, because it was a tag sale that hands out numbers in the morning and only the first 30 people will get in right away. I showed up at 6:30 AM to get in line and was already the 13th person back. Of course they hand out multiple numbers to people so when I got my ticket I was number 23. Came back close to opening time and was lucky enough to get to the baseball before anyone else. :)

I went to a tag sale this weekend also because they had a box full of vintage baseball stuff (gloves, catchers gear, two flannels). Well when I got there, Iwas already number 60 and would have to wait awhile to get in. So in the meantime they opened up the garage and I found this vintage bat "The Victor". Guessing it's from around 1905-10, it's in bad shape but only paid $1. Anyone know more info about this company?
So when we were waiting a lady came out with the baseball box and I asked her how much she paid.. $450. I don't think it was worth anywhere near $450 (included a photo of the lot, what you guys think?) |
Nice bat..I've had a few Victor bats over the years. A buck is a steal. That box of stuff is nowhere near worth $450.

Cardinals Sign
Saw this @ The National. Had no way to get it home. Ran into it again @ Collinsville show this weekend and the price had improved and I had the truck. Now to find somewhere to hang it.

"Atta Boy" Jeff, I figured that would be going home with you. Nice job.

Weird that the Pirates would burn their bats before the season even starts!
I picked this up a little while ago and am wondering how common these are. Any thoughts? |
Posted in the All-sports forum, but more boastable over here.
Lucky to have scored this rare, early shot of my childhood idol, for a fair price. Wallet-size but thrilled regardless! http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...on/orr1965.jpg |

Picked up this rare signed Mantle ck dated the day before his "called shot" record breaking 16th WS HR. It was also a walk off. It was then cashed the day after he would hit his last WS HR(18). I have not seen many playing day signed Mantle cks of any kind. I thought it was a neat piece that would go well with my TYPE 1 Photo(16th hr) and ticket stub.

7" tall Bareknuckle Boxer Statue
<a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=5769958a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/5769958a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Above, actuall 7" tall size, (depending on your monitor) Guess C1880 Picked up this little statue of a bareknuckle boxer off eBay yesterday. I've never seen anything like it before! The seller thought it was Bendigo W.Thompson but a cursory search didn't convince me...Once I get it in hand I'll try to solve who it is. The facial features are so distinct I think it was intended to depict some famous boxer...probably from the bareknuckle era. It's coming from England and it looks very English to me. I suppose I could have the patina reapplied...but I think the wear is worth it's weight in gold...in that you know for sure from that kind of wear it's old. I'd prefer it that way as opposed to wondering .<table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="5" width="742"> <tr> <td align="right"><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=04911450.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/04911450.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a></td> <td align="left"><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=929bcee8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/929bcee8.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right" valign="top"><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=0c31c114.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/0c31c114.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a></td> <td align="left" valign="top"><a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=00a2f57b.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/00a2f57b.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a></td> </tr> </table> |
