Yes. Finally.

I have been after one of these banks for a while. They come on ebay usually 3-4 times a year. I was really thrilled to find one with the original box. The bank itself isn't in the best condition, but I can always upgrade later if the opportunity presents itself.

Great Bank, and a very under-rated piece. Especially with the Box (which appears to be in nice condition!)

Souvenirs like this from Gehrig's playing days are rare. Nice pickup!

Lordstan 07-12-2012 12:16 PM

Thanks Mark.
the box is the big reason I went after this one. I've seen the bank itself in better condition, but have never seen the box before.
I'm very pleased.

repsher 07-12-2012 02:14 PM

Nice bank. What is it made of? It looks plastic, but I'm guessing it's not.

Lordstan 07-12-2012 02:19 PM

Ryan,
I don't have it in hand yet.
I'll let you know when I get it.
Perhaps someone else on the board who has one could answer as well.

Best,
Mark

It's glass, and is a very nice piece in person. High quality and will display great (especially adjacent to the Box). They call it "milk glass", FWIW...

Nashvol 07-13-2012 05:59 AM

"Milk glass" is correct, at least what I have been told by dealers. I have one of these for the Nashville Vols and Knoxville Smokies but none compares to your great find!

You hit it right on the nose Mark. In time, you'll upgrade the ball, but the box, the box... that's the clincher! Well done.

Speaking of Boxes, Mark ;) These arrived in yesterday's mail and are really sweet! They even have the original bubble bath inside of each Beatle!

Footnote; They never made a Beatles Soaky of John or George. Go figure...

I acquired this figural in a trade with my good friend Mark (perezfan). For those who are not familiar with this piece, it is a match striker (concealed in cap) and was originally mounted on a base. It's about 5 1/4" tall and heavy. Although not complete, I really like it. Thanks Mark.

I am a small fish concentrating on T206 MLers in PSA 4, SGC 50. I would like to pass along a thank you to Ed Woelfle (Frank Oberlin), Marty Bowen (Dummy Taylor), and Scot Reader (Bill O'Neil) for superior deals that helped me add to my collection.

Respectfully,

Dave

I just added 2 more game used ALEXANDER jerseys to the "Worlds Greatest Alexander Jersey" collection. Both are Redskins jerseys used by Lorenzo Alexander. (Sorry about the blurry picture.) This brings the collection to 76. Also, courtesy of MEARS, I was able to add a Fort Myers Sun Sox and West Palm Beach Tropics jacket to my collection.

As always, I am looking for game used / game worn jerseys with the name ALEXANDER on the back (or any variation of the name) and game used equipment from the Senior League. (aka SPBA, Senior Professional Baseball Association)

I’ve been enjoying a pretty good month of picking up original photos. 1930 Nick Altrock , Joe E. Brown, and AL Schacht at the World Series, 1932 Leo Duroucher, 1940 rookie image Lou Boudreau, 1934 Goose Goslin, 1940s Larry Doby, 1932 Billy Herman, 1939 rookie image Early Wynn, 1944 Joe DiMaggio and 7th AFF Team (thanks JMANOS).

John V 07-17-2012 04:52 AM

Mike,
It's early and maybe I'm not quite awake, but is the Goslin photo backwards? His follow-through looks to be of a right handed batter.

Good eye John I completely missed that. The photo isn't printed in reverse. It seems that he may have been playing a joke on the photographer.it also appears that I fell for the same prank 78 years later.

Carlton, I bought this same clock, except it was for WLS Chicago, from Dave Bushing a couple years ago for $1,400, decided I didn't have room for it and put it in a major Hunt auction where it pulled in all of $600. Ouch--not one of my better deals! The price of this one vindicated my judgement (WLS should have been even better, no?) but I'm still out the $800. So it goes...

mjkm90 07-17-2012 03:51 PM

I've always loved these clocks. Yeah...WLS should have gone for a premium:(

Not a very exciting story as I purchased it in Lelands last auction, I have included another picture with a nodder in the foreground to give it some perspective. Thanks

Very cool items everyone!

Who says you can't find things at flea markets/antique shows?

Below are some of my Brimfield finds. The glove was 30.00, the vintage football pencil box 20.00 and the Tigers 1968 bank in original box was 10.00. I purchased these on Tuesday morning. I also found a tintype and some other cool photos on Thursday. I will post those tomorrow.

Anyway, there is a nice gathering of Olderman's work currently available on ebay, for a song. Below are a few of the examples I recently picked up... and plenty of others are still available.

Thanks for the heads up on the Olderman art. I picked up a Branch Rickey as well.

Won the Ruth Underwear Box from the latest Hakes auctions. This is my first real piece of memorabilia (besides photos), so not exactly sure how much I'll be collecting here since these can take a lot of space, and I'm not much of a display person. Still, I've always liked this box and have wanted to pick one up.

BTW, I assume that this should be a genuine box and not a fake per this thread: Link

Here are some additional acquisitions from Brimfield last week. The tintype is my first of this style (it was originally purchased from an estate in Fulton NY) and I love the team photo (really cool early bird cage mask and the kids look like they might be drunk). I could not pass up the pennants at 10.00 each. Any idea on when the Mets pennant is from?

Steve, incredible retirement gift! I hope you enjoy it for years to come.

Alan

mjkm90 07-19-2012 06:54 PM

You STOLE the pennants. The Mets is mid 60s IMO.

aelefson 07-19-2012 07:19 PM

Thanks Mike! I could not believe the prices myself. The dealer had these and other circus/state pennants from the 50s and 60s. They were hung up around the booth, and thus were in plain sight. It definitely pays to be an early bird (I got these at about 5:45am)!

Nice grab, Alan. I had a similar pennant experience last Fall and as a bonus, learned a little about pennants. Now I even own the definitive pennant book, authored by one of our board members.

My latest package of original photos has arrived.
Lou Boudreau before he was a baseball star, Johnny Mize reaching first with Rochester (before he hit the majors). Bing Miller, Jimmy Foxx, Al Simmons and Mickey Cochrane with the 1929 Athletics. Then my Dizzy Dean collection. 1 of him with the Cubs, 1 with his brother and then 2 that were used for baseball cards. 1 was used for both 1933 and '34 Goudey's and then 1 was used for the 1936 Goudey.

http://sportsantiques.com/fohbc_reno_show_7_27_12.htm
I picked up the two items above at a bottle show this weekend. I don't recall the Dodgers vs Yankees banner before. It's an eye catcher at 25 1/2" tall by 17" wide. The seller tapped it to the backing and shrunk wrapped it....and I'm reluctant to take it out to examine it displays so nice. There seems to be a looped edge at the top which would have likely been for a pole to slide thru I suppose.

It's very interesting it's was made after the Dodgers won their league championship but obviously before they went on to sweep the series...so it's a very ephemeral piece that would have been used a very short while before the Series began...I'm out of my element with it since it's so later than I collect. I can see fold lines like it was folded up about 8" x 6"..that's probably why it's in such good shape. It doesn't feel like a commercial piece...that is like something that hung in a magazine stand...more like a souvenir sold at the park..

Below some close in shots

http://sportsantiques.com/fohbc_reno_show_7_27_12.htm
Actually it wasn't just any bottle show...it was the National Convention of the FOHBC...Federation Of Historical Bottle Collectors....held in Reno NV...I made the 3 hour drive and stayed two days Friday and Saturday..you can see 200 photos I took in the link above (100 up now of Friday, 100 to come of Saturday). I posted photos of the bottle on Antique-Bottles.net which I belong to and it's getting the deserved scrutiny...that community is the
