First Cooperstown HOF induction class-1939. I don't own it, but it's a classic photo.

Actually I'm surprised that you don't have any Ruth items in your collection. I thought it was a rule that anybody who collects vintage Baseball memorabilia must have at least one vintage piece of Babe Ruth memorabilia! :D Well, if it's not a rule it sure as hell should be! ;)

Vintage Original TYPE 1 Photo of the Historic Hall of Fame Opening Day Parade in Cooperstown, New York, June 1939. That's the Babe and Ty Cobb leading the parade to the front doors of the Cooperstown Museum.

Currently the only Ruth item that I have is the ticket stub that I posted last month to his last pitching appearance/win in 1933.

In the past I have owned some cool Ruth items. The best one was a vintage fountain pen signed Ruth ball signed on the SS around 1933. The signature was about a 9 and the ball itself was an 8. I bought/traded for it in 1994 and had the seller by it back from me three years later for $1000 more than I paid for it. Believe it or not, I traded three Cal Ripken Topps Traded rookies and $700 for the ball. What a steal! I really wish I still owned it, but at the time $2700 cash seemed like a good deal. Yikes!! :eek:

Probably the deal that I regret most....

A Sympathy Letter to Mrs. Ruth from the Babe's dear friend James A. Farley (Also known in politics as the 'Kingmaker'). Farley was heading up Coca-Cola's Division in Europe at the time Ruth died. His comments were absolutely spot-on and still ring true to this day.

The Bam is everywhere. A corn field maze seen from the air and yes, even a tortilla chip, a pic of the very young Babe.One of the Babe's dad, as many may already know, killed in a street fight in front of his saloon.

One of my favorite wire photos- Babe Get the Brith Shalom National Sports Award.

I can tell you this from reading some articles from newspaper archives. The Yankee owners did not like to see the Bam doing anything the put him at risk for injury.
May I stray off the theme of this thead a bit and show what Babe was not to do. Some of these "I Can'ts" were actually written into his contract and he could be fined if found to be in violation. A few more in his contract, no horseback riding, no skiing, no skating and no prolonged handshaking with the public. Believe it or not the owners thought prolonged handshaking put his big paws at risk, finger injury.
He was their big money maker at the ticket gate and they wanted him on the field at all times.

BTW, it doesn't appear that The Babe followed hardly any of these don'ts in his contract Yankls contract. Maybe he was confused and thought the contract read DO!! LOL :p

Probably not Scott, Babe was never one to follow the rules, his contract terms in this case.

Don't recall who it was that summed up the Babe, one of his Red Sox teammates I think......."He does everything wrong off the field and everything right on the field."

He drove just as he lived, fast and hard. Soon he would be going from the bike to big 12 cylinder Packards and Lincolns. He was lucky, involved in 3 roll overs while speeding. I have a number of news articles, his driving violations. One where he was arrested and spent a few hours in Jail.

Upon release his unifrom was brought to the jail and he was given a police escort to get him to the Polo Grounds in time to get into the game.

Witnesses claim the police were far exceeding the NY city speed limit in order to get Babe to the Polo Grounds on time.

Where it all started, St. Marys playing field. Also where Babe hit is one and only home run in the minor leagues, Toronto. On that day he was also pitching, allowed Toronto only one base hit, bloop single.

The sale of the century, any century. Some have actually tried to put a positive spin on Harry Frazee's sale of Babe, there is none not from the baseball angle. Harry pickled up some bucks but this sale and then following sales of other good Bosox players changed the landscape of the game.

Bosox, cream of the AL going down and the so so Yankee team now on the rise. Check out stats for 1919, Babe led both leagues in a great number of offensive stats, now Harry sends him packing, because he was a bad boy.

Also, the Yanks loan Harry 300,000.00+ dollars and Harry puts up Fenway Park as collateral. Possible, shoud Harry default on the loan, the Yanks not only have Babe Ruth but maybe even Fenway park.

Just another indication of his popularity with the public. He is a ball player, not an actor, no stage act and yet he is paid the highest sum ever for any individual stage act including the biggest show business stars in that time.

He has no act, just stand on stage and be Babe Ruth. His first appearance on the West coast he is a hit, comes on stage and they stand and cheer for 5 minutes.

After one show, "he is arrested and booked," released after posting bond for violating the Child Labor Law.

"I swing big with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big.I like to live as big as I can."

Here's the most beautiful signed Babe Ruth 3 x 5 that I've ever seen. This was in the personal collection of Bill Mastro until it went up for auction about a year ago. Say what you will about Mastro, but this guy collected nothing but the best...

Here is my signed Ruth ball which I have had for many years. It is personalized to someone whose name was "Buster" Bates. A couple of years ago in a Hunt auction, a signed personalized 8X10 photo "to Buster Bates" was also sold. At the time, I did not have the extra money to bid on it and had to let it go but now if anyone knows where it ended up, I would dearly like to "marry" the two items together. I don't ever recall seeing two personalized items (baseball/photo) made out to the same person although I know it probably happened a lot but maybe Buster Bates was someone special that Babe knew since he took time to sign two different items or maybe there were just two "Buster" Bates. Thanks if you are out there for getting in touch with me.

Love that stereo-view Adam. There was a really nice Gehrig/View that recently sold on ebay. Nice stereo-views of Babe & Lou are tough to locate, undervalued and have a lot of upside to them IMO...

Here is a pair of c. 1930 Babe Ruth All-American Underwear related items. First off is a vintage original photo of the Bambino (looking quite fit), that originates from the Christy Walsh Family Archives. This famous image of Ruth was said to be his favorite and also graced the cover of his popular underwear box. Note: Babe liked this photo so much that he commissioned a large painting of it that proudly hung in his apartment. It can be seen in an image in the Barry Halper Catalogs.

Purchased as a companion piece for the original photo is this seldom seen 4x5 Babe Ruth Underwear glass advertising slide that was used in movie theaters to advertise the sponsor's goods. A fragile piece that remains in top-notch condition.

Putting an ad for your ebay item in a thread is annoying, but it is slightly less annoying if you admit that's what you are doing when you do it.

There is actually a special section in the BST for your ad, I noticed that you did not make mention of your item in that section.

Nice photo! BTW, the guy on the left, holding the bat straight up, is Yankee outfielder--and Derek Jeter look-alike--W. F. "Birdie" Cree, who had been sent down to Baltimore in 1914. Here's the contract he signed later that year when he returned to the Yankees.

Here is the earliest known professional baseball team photo of the Bambino, Opening Day, 1914 Baltimore American News (Babe is in the front row, center)..........

This original George Burke 1935 portrait of the Babe in his last hurrah, is certainly one of his final posed images as a Ballplayer, as this photo was taken by Burke in Chicago between May 9th and May 21st. Of course the Bambino's last game was played at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh on May 25th, 1935.

This was picked up yesterday, has some of the same characteristics of a Burke Stand-up (right size, beveled wood, same thickness and style. It is approx. 7" tall and obviously pasted against a (newer) board instead of in a stand. Perhaps you have seen this picture before? If so is it a known Burke photo.
