Been looking for a Washington one of these for a while. Having Big Ed Delahanty in it is a nice bonus.

nice, big ed just before the final plunge!

I'm happy for you Matthew that you got your Big Eaters card and a shout out to Brian T. for helping you find it. That's what this board can do and why it is so much more than merely a message board. :)

Leon 04-05-2011 02:16 PM

agreed

I agree Tbob. The good thing about the board is you can make it what you want. If you want to meet folks, you can. If you want to not meet folks, you can.

On the (Friday) night of the Net54Baseball dinner at the National, with 1 speaker already lined up, it certainly won't be "just a message board". I am firming up details now and should have a final update in the next few days....I think there will be a change of venue too....with an added bonus for a few people. regards

A headless Boston 1888 Raphael Truck & Sons towards my set. All 6 of mine so far are headless. 4 more to go. For some reason, I really want to put together an all headless set. This is kinda my vintage goof set... Anyone got any headless Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit or Pittsburgh's that they wouldn't mind parting with for cheap?

Also picked up a double of the St. Louis for an extra $1.25. Headless, as well. Woohoo!!!

I now at least have one card for every MLB Player HOF'er. 180 of them are what I would call acceptable RC's. This one isn't in great shape, but the image of Amos is pretty good and the price was right!

bcbgcbrcb 04-07-2011 03:18 PM

Nice pick up, Dan. That's a tough RC!

Hey Rob

Been seeing your Goudey pick ups for a long time. How close are you to completing one of the years(or more)?

Frank

A few more towards my 1928 Exhibit set. Figured I had better pick these up before Neal added them to his horizontal collection. :)

Hey Frank,

Thanks so much for asking. I am up to 79% on the 1933 Goudey (SGC 40-80), need just 51 cards to complete the set. For the 1934 set (SGC 50-80), I need 35 cards to complete that set. It has been a fun ride so far!

Rob

Orions father 04-07-2011 08:40 PM

Thanks! There is a nice looking 1928 Sand on ebay if you have not seen it.

Eartly Mantle RPPC

2 Attachment(s)
After reading the new Mantle book I developed a new-found appreciation for Mickey and set out to add something "mantle" to my collection. Won this card on the bay. I was told the code on the back was for paper used through 1950 but certainly could have been used in '51 his rookie year. I did some research - Mick's first spring training was held in Phoenix and the ad on the outfield wall for the jeweler is in fact for a jeweler in Phoenix. (that is still in business). So I think I can say with confidence this is from spring training of Mantle's rookie year. I have no idea who produced it (who would have produced it??) but I think it could be significant. Wanted everyone to enjoy this image of Mickey before his stardom really kicked in.

bcbgcbrcb 04-07-2011 10:30 PM

Very nice Mantle RPPC, Peter. I would concur that it appears to be from 1951 based on all of the criteria that you mentioned. The only thing missing is the shield on Mantle's sleeve that the Yankees wore during 1951 only but may be due to the angle of the photo or the fact that it was not worn during spring training and maybe began with the regular season opener.

Greg, Wow! Nice cards and great display. There's plenty more available in REA, Memory Lane, etc!!!

Just wondering, do the stands work well with the larger cards? I need two of the stands I use to hold up the big cards.

Thanks Dan. Sure do, bought them from John V. on here and it is holding that T3 Cobb just fine with nothing else holding it.
