I've been after a high grade example of this pin for many years. This example was listed poorly and stayed under the radar of the baseball pin collectors and I am very excited about adding it to my collection :D

Mike, I'm not a pin guy but that's a cool pin...I did a story on a Fan Taz syrup dispenser, see link above. At the end of the story is a Fan Taz sign, which has been on eBay a long time.

In other news...here's some Jan P/U's....went to the Glendale Show and the Long Beach flea over the weekend...didn't find much....At Glendale got a dummy advertising loaf of Helms bread, stating Helms supplied bread to the Olympics....after leaving regretted getting it since it's one of those fragile pieces I hate...then the next day at the Long Beach flea I found a bottle of Canada Dry water, again advertising it as supplyed to the Olympics...then found a killer horserace plaque marked 1966....also got a cool little c1930's polo trophy on eBay 7 1/2" wide..given to a U.S. Ambasador

1931 WS Tickets and Press Pass
 

We had another snow storm in the midwest (KC), so no work today. I was able to make it down to the local antique mall where, to my suprise, I was able to pick up these three 1931 WS tickets and Press Pass for a great price. I was particularly excited about the Pass.

I collaborated on the pickup of an eBay lot that contained two pristine full tickets to the 1969 Miracle Mets 100th and final win of their Amazin' season that caught the entire sports world by surprise.
It's ironic that this game occured in Chicago. As many of you may remember, the Cubs had been a strong NL front runner until their legendary late season fade...
One of my collecting focuses Nolan Ryan pitched in relief in this game and got his final K of the regular season.
In 38 years of collecting I have never seen another full ticket to this game. I've always hoped I would find one, and now I have. Cool! :D

I picked this up very cheaply at a local auction that was hampered by a snow storm a couple weeks ago. The framing goes very well with it.

Really excited with this new arrival. Rare figural Ted Williams candy dispenser bust. Only the second one I have ever seen. And Mike and Mark don't need to know how much I paid for it ;).

Was very happy to pick up my second game used bat of Forrest "Woody" Jensen. He played minor league ball in Wichita in 1929-30. Was fortunate enough to know him in my younger days.

I just got this in the mail today...Thanks to Andy Bower for sending this to me..he and his dad have really contributed a lot to my Lincoln Chiefs collection. This is a snapshot of Dick Stuart and Marcos Cobos in 1956...it is written on the back in Stuart's hand.

I just got a Lou Brock 3000th hit ticket stub from my friend Scott Garner along with a great letter of provenance. Scott is a good friend and has been a mentor to me on ticket purchases. In fact, and I don't want to jinx it, he found something else that I'll be bidding on and hope to show in a few days.

Brock... That's a great pickup. True story.... I saw it on ebay with 11 seconds left, and missed getting a bid entered. I think I missed by 1-2 seconds. Wish I saw it a bit sooner, but very glad it went to you.

There was a clear bottom half to it, that held the candy (just like the Jackie Robinson version). You may want to try finding a Jackie Robinson with the clear base, and buy it cheap... then keep the base for your Wlliams Bust and sell the Jackie Robinson top half.

Either way, congrats on another great acquisition!

Earlybird shopping at a local antique show yielded this great 1910 team composite produced by Weasner of Buffalo. Image measures 12 1/2" x 16 1/4"; original frame is 17 5/8" x 21 5/8".

At least eight of the players made it to the T206 lineup; at least 14 made it to the majors at some point in their career. On August 9, 1910, pitcher Chet Carmichael (second from right in top row) pitched the first perfect game in Eastern League history. Sorry about the reflection/glare off the glass.

Rick, Nice pick up on the Buffalo Composite photo....you just don't come across that kind of quaility at antique shows too often, congrats....actually there's a lot of nice p/u's on here...that Ted Williams Candy dispenser....how tall is that?

I picked up an interesting piece today at a flea...14" tall x 12 wide pillow advertising the 1985 heavyweight title fight between Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks in Las Vegas....never heard of one of these

Carlton- The Williams bust measures about 4.5" tall. Which is about 1/2" bigger than the Robinson version.

Mark- I've been there before. That last second scramble to try and get a bid in can be nerve racking.
Your post has me wondering if there are more, non-baseball, versions of these figural candy dispensers? Any idea? Maybe if he sees this, Lou C. can chime in because if anyone would know it would likely be him.

I have some gold-toned busts (DiMaggio/Feller/Sain) that are very similar in style and size. I can post them if anyone cares.

But as far as the Candy dispenser type with the clear base, the only ones I have seen are the Jackie Robinson and the Ted Williams (with the Williams being 10 times rarer than Robinson). I am not aware of any others. Since this is right in his "wheelhouse", perhaps Lou will chime in and can enlighten us...

I do also have a Jackie Robinson version, which is a bust only... the base is gold like the statue, but it does not pull apart like the Candy Container. I've always assumed it's a prototype of some kind. I can post that one as well (if anyone cares). Sometimes I think the number of people in the world who value this stuff is in the single-digits :o

I would definitely be interested in seeing the pieces you mentioned Mark. The Robinson possible prototype piece certainly piqued my interest quite a bit. Would love to see that.

Just received this photo of fellow Kansan Joe Wilhoit during his one year stint with the Wichita club. Best known for his 69 game hitting streak.

I was quite excited to pick this up - an 1894 Harvard 30" pennant, from the family of a period Harvard football player.

There are a few moth holes and some condition issues, but it'll look great at my office (I work at Harvard), along with some other 19th century Harvard sports items....

Active week for me... I picked up the following...

1. With many thanks to Mike H (for finding it), I picked up this cool Baseball themed Humidor. I love the crossed Mushroom Bats on the Lid.

2. Cool 1931 Athletics Pinback. A bit on the plain side, but a rare (and I believe pretty desirable) pin.

3. Really excited about this piece... Athletics Straw Hat, circa 1911. The type Connie Mack would wear- super high quality, and not a "novelty" or "carnival" hat. The only other thing I've seen even close to this was a group of 3 Hat Bands in a 2004 Hunt Auction. They had the NY Giants, Red Sox, and an Athletics just like this one. No Hats were included (just the Bands) so I believe this to be super-rare....

Mark, Three very nice pickups! I really like the straw hat- great condition!

Mark, Very cool humidor....never seen it before....yeah I agree on the mushroom handles, very nice...now ya need that William Demuth baseball pipe...that is if you don't already have one LOL

Carlton, since i have the pipe, i need the humidor.

Maybe REA can help us fill some of these needs in May. They are due for a big event on the Memorabilia side. This early tobacco-related baseball stuff is addicting, but is really tough to find. Wish I had started collecting it earlier, as REA and Hunts both had some amazing stuff 3 -5 years ago.

I saw the humidor listed and kept asking myself if they were bats as advertised or made out to look like drum sticks to go with the base

Absolutely stellar pick-ups Mark. The A's Straw Hat is off the charts. Just beautiful. I had been watching it for the last ten days and was very, very close to pulling the trigger...but I have my eye on a piece that I'm dying to get my hands on, so congrats on a few more killer pieces to display in Cooperstown-North West!

Who would know about the heroic career ahead, and the consecutive games streak that was in store? Can't stop thinking about that image as a potential Kreindler masterpiece :rolleyes:

Thanks Dan and David. Yeah Wilhoit is up there but finding material of his is very difficult. Would love to get a game used bat of his. The description of the photo said Wichita but I've found other things where this exact photo was used that had him with Salt Lake.

Paid an arm and both legs for it, but I can scratch it off my list...Barnard ball & box...
