I was sorry to see Pete Calderon's name pop up in the article. Damn shame, Pete's a really nice guy who has brought a lot to the hobby and has been very personable and kind.

Persistent!!

I am assuming that Illinois has laws involving harassing communications and terroristic threatening. That guy should have been paid a visit that morning by 5-0 and taken to the crossbar hotel.
Absolutely ridiculous.

Wesley,

Adam's organization will offer lifetime, free parking at all, online meetings.

Adam,

If you need someone to "hold" the money, I'm your guy.

Observations

The King's English

I think it totally sucks what happened to Dave. I would be furious if I were him. . Proper English is "if I were he"

As for this case:

(1) No one has been convicted to date

(2) If, in fact, Dave received a plethora of telephone calls
to his home, the caller should be punished. When someone
called us a number of times, we went to the police; caused that person
a great deal of discomfort and$10,000 in legal fees. We then changed our telephone number.

(3) When there are public documents filed, everyone is fair game. We certainly appreciate Cory's position and anger. However,
it appears that he has little recourse in the matter.

(4) As for those who commit and are convicted of fraud, we hope that the court applies the appropriate punishment.

(5) Does anyone envision that this filing will have an impact on the Legendary Auction of the Bill Mastro collection?

(6) Exhibit Card Man- whilst your "close" clearly refers to us, it is inaccurate and irresponsible. Baseball cards matter far more to us
than people like you.

Sincerely

Bruce,

I think this is the most interesting question at all!

Thrill-of-the-Hunt 09-24-2010 08:40 PM

will anybody really pay

at the end of the day, who ever loses the case, will they really pay? what are the actual consequences if that auction house is found guilty?

Kenny Cole 09-24-2010 09:00 PM

actually, IMO, the most interesting aspect of this case is what happens if, as I suspect will be the case, the civil lawsuit precedes any overt criminal action. That is essentially free discovery for the feds, i.e., they get the benefit of everything that happens in the civil case without doing any real work whatsoever. If I was defending Mastro and had something to hide, I would be real worried about that.

Bruce:

Adam's signature is a "parody" of a very famous Saturday Night Live Skit featuring William Shatner where he makes fun of the "Trekkies". If you listen to what I will post, many of the words and the thoughts are the same

I would wager that this is not directed at you in any way

Yes, it seems we have much irony on the board. I had a response all written out and didn't hit the "submit reply" button. Anyone that thinks of themself in the royal "we" sense, has more issues than I am capable of fixing with the degree I have. I am going to a postcard show in a few minutes and I will be looking for another degree to buy though, so I may help. I have that going for me.

Royal "we"???? Is that what that is?

I thought he had a mouse in his pocket.

barrysloate 09-25-2010 08:43 AM

What about "themself?" That's not even a word!

Actually, in this case, I think it's the perfect mix of singular and plural.

I guess you mean a single person who uses plural pronouns. That's a good point.
