I haven't found too much to buy lately but I picked up a Holsum Bread exclusive card (didn't make the later E121 Series of 80 cut in this form)...
http://www.starsofthediamond.com/holsumroth.JPG

and a W575-1 Peckinpaugh (correct name) that is probably actually a Koesters Bread card...

Nice pickup Chris. Where'd you find it? I must have missed it if it was online.

Finally finished my 1910 Obak series of 175 last night. Thought I'd done so a couple of years back only to discover that my lone McCredie was actually a 150 series back (yes, there are worse problems in the card world). After not seeing one for a sale for nearly two years, three examples suddenly popped up within the past week.

Vintagecatcher 09-08-2010 10:51 AM

Congrats Anthony

Congrats Anthony.

Completing any pre-war set is not an easy task.

Anthony. Hope you kept the 150 series McCredie so now you can work on completing that set too! :)

I actually bought the 150 series McCredie from a fellow who lives up in Alaska. He sent me a scan of the front and asked what the going rate was for cards in the set. Assuming it was a 175 series McCredie, I named a price. When I received it and realized it was a 150 series, I sent him an addition $50.

I'm about 10 cards away from finishing the 150 set.

Its in velvet but taken with a rifle on a Utah CWMU. Graded 182 B&C for those that like to score 'em. That G2 looks tall because it is... 21 inches...

Ah yes, nothing like hiding in the bushes and shooting a defenseless animal. Congrats!

David:

Love the Senators postcard, wondering if Sam Rice is pictured? Only played 4 games in 1915 ................

Kawika 09-10-2010 05:52 AM

Phil: I couldn't get Rice's face to fit any of the players. There's a bit of resemblance with the guy in the front row fourth from the left but I wouldn't bet a nickle that it's him. Maybe Val Kehl could weigh in. You can get a blow-up view of the post card at my ImageEvent page: http://tinyurl.com/3yxzcnl pw=aloha

More like: Nothing like spending a week in the outdoors with my Dad, hiking about 50 miles and thousands of feet, and finally harvesting an older buck that will feed my family and certain families I know that are out of work and have nothing in their cupboard. The money that hunters spend gives ranchers an economic incentive to perserve and protect their land from real estate developers, and the animals harvested keep the deer population in balance with the native vegetation so it is not wiped out. Yes, I choose to get my meat this way rather than support a corporate meat farm that is run like a death camp and produces tons of environmental waste.

To each his own, but if that makes me a bad person, so be it. :D

M's_Fan 09-10-2010 11:34 AM

Anthony, those are some AWESOME cards !!!

About showing off your killer instinct...

"Its in velvet but taken with a rifle on a Utah CWMU. Graded 182 B&C for those that like to score 'em. That G2 looks tall because it is... 21 inches..."

First of all, I hate deer as much as the next guy. They eat all my plants and are a nuisance with the ticks and the running in front of the cars, etc.

Also, I love to eat meat... lots of it.

But you gotta exercise a little discretion before you show off your hunting photos on a baseball card board. Tons of people find that kind of stuff really offensive. And as much as I hate deer and love meat, even I found that photo more sad than anything else.

Isn't there a dead animal board you can post that on?

Same here. I don't have anything against what you are doing and how you get your food, but I'd rather not see it in any form on this board.

jb217676 09-10-2010 12:47 PM

"Bambi"no....

What does the dead deer have to do with baseball? Did you chase and kill it with a bat? Was it beaned in the head with a 100 MPH fastball? This is the wrong place for a pic. like that.

M's_Fan 09-10-2010 12:57 PM

Well, I guess I misjudged the situation. I feel like I've come to know some of the folks on this forum, and I thought there might be some other hunters out there that might appreciate a quick off-topic post, along the lines of the many other off-topic posts and threads out there. I guess not.

HRBAKER 09-10-2010 01:01 PM

M's fan, for the record I was not offended but it was a "whoa" in the middle of the Pick-Ups thread. Nice bag btw.
BTW for those who have been around for awhile we have had numerous posts with folks displaying their haul from various fishing trips.
But then again fish aren't furry with big brown eyes.

Orions father 09-10-2010 01:03 PM

Let him be. Albeit, it was OT but so is alot of the other comments on here. I dont think he meant to offend anyone, just was proud of his recent pickup. Most everyone would be offended if they saw the meat they eat everyday in such a "raw" form, doesn't mean its not OK. Although I dont hunt or own a gun, I respect his right to and am happy for him. Most of you may disageree with me (thats OK, that is what makes this country great), saying it doesn't belong here just because it not baseball is wrong. I have seen shared pix of our families, other hobbies (motorcycles, coins) and even a few illegal substances on this board.

I agree with virtually everything you said here. OT stuff is usually fine. And I certainly don't want to see the state of the cow that produced my afternoon lunch in a photo on this board. I also respect his right to hunt and own a gun, particularly in the overpopulated deer context. Heck, I will even go so far as to say, "Thank you," for killing that deer in that context. The effort is genuinely appreciated.

Having said that, it is a photo that will make more than a fair share of people sad, uncomfortable, angry, disgusted, etc. And I would prefer not to see any more dead animals here. For whatever reason, fish don't pull at my gag reflex. But the warm-blooded animals do.

Now, let's get back to hunting deer and showing baseball cards!

Orions father 09-10-2010 01:30 PM

If people were offended than that is on them, in my humble opinion, I'm sure that was not his intent. Its hard in this day and age not to anger someone with what you do. I'm with you T206Collector, lets get back to baseball, thats why we all come here.

M's_Fan 09-10-2010 01:40 PM

I pulled the deer pic down from my photobucket account so it doesn't show up on this thread anymore. I enjoy hunting but I'm not the type of guy that likes to make waves. I apologize if I offended anyone, it didn't occur to me that would be the result.

Let's close this chapter and get back to talkin' about cardboard.

no, i think the sissyfication of America is when little leaguers can no longer yell "swing batter, swing!" from the field cuz it might hurt little johnny's feelings.

There is a youth soccer league in Houston called FFPS (Fun Fair Positive Soccer) where every kid gets a trophy and there are no winners or losers - no score is kept. What a great thing to teach our kids...you can work harder and be better than your competition, but everybody is rewarded the same no matter what. What's the point of even trying?

FWIW, I didn't have a problem with the picture either. As was mentioned, there have been plenty of dead fish pictures shown - just look at the "What do you do?" thread. It's a shame that people just have nothing better to do and can't mind their own business.

David,

All of those kids will probably grow up and work at the FFWP (Fun Fair Work Place) where everyone gets the same performanace review and makes the same amount of money right?
