A couple of pickups...A beautiful Dutch Ruether GPC originally from the Dr. John Davis Jr. collection, A players contract for George Hendrick signed by Pirates GM Joe L. Brown (for my 1960 Pirates project) and 3 more 3000 hit tickets/stubs (Carew, Rose and Biggio).

I posted this piece on the card side but I wanted to post it here too. Absolutely love this piece. It is a 1903 Cabinet of Harry Howell while he was part of the first ever New York Yankees team.

Great pickups guys, beautiful bats Matt.

Here are a couple of my recent pickups.
First is an 1884 Wright and Ditson paper catalog pamphlet (4 pages total including the front) It has the Union Association Ball on the front which I believe only existed in 1884.

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...talogpage2.jpg

Next I picked up this fairly early bat. It has a flat end and handle, and has more of a straight taper. Am I correct dating this bat to the 1870s. I am pretty much a bat novice, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Just picked this bat stand up in the Hunt auction.

mr2686 06-10-2010 07:57 AM

Dave, that is a great bat stand. I really really like it. Is that from the 20's - 30's, or later?

Don't know the date. If anyone can date it I'd appreciate it.

Great piece, this was cut from a larger Horner composite correct?

Picked up this Mickey Mantle signed 1963 Sport Magazine last month from Mark (Lordstan) and turned it around and sent it to Yogi Berra to have him sign it. Just got it today and couldn't be happier! Thanks again Mark!

Enjoy!
Now I have to get my copy signed by Berra:eek:

I picked up a nice team photo at a local auction last night. The pennant in the photo dates it to 1911.

Thanks Jimmy! It is a real striking photo. I also picked up this 1920 Red Sox scorecard. It has Ruth playing center field for the Yankees. Also a nice ad from the Horace Partridge Co. which supplied uniforms to the Red Sox........

Damn Matt. Those are some really sweet bats you got there. What does the marking "40 K" represent?

My best, Jimmy

mr2686 06-12-2010 06:43 AM

Jimmy, that's a great 1938 Gehrig photo! Makes me a bit sad though. He had just come off another great year and had no way of knowing that within a year he'd be diagnosed with ALS and pass away within 3 years. Even as his body was failing him, he still managed to hit .295 and knock in 114 runs in 1938. The man truly was the Iron Horse.

Here are a couple of neat June pickups that are perfect matches for my collection that I picked up off of eBay...
1) An original wire photo of Tex Carleton's no-hitter against Cincinnati in 1940
2) A Huskies cereal advertisement featuring "Double No-Hit" Johnny Vander Meer. Pretty cool!

Um, Jimmy- Another Husky's campanion piece?.........
Both items didn't hurt the wallet much...:D

Added a couple more 70's jerseys to my collection. I really wanted the Royals road bad. Grew up watching this team along with the Orioles. 1976 is the year I became an official Yankee hater.

Picked up this Yankee Stadium Sign. Description had it pegged as circa 1950's...It shows very nice with great color and I love how the font is the same as the lettering that hung on the outside of the old stadium.

Another Catcher's Mask

Since I'm rarely finding any cards to add to my collection, I have started to add some more memorabilia items to my collection. Anyone have any catcher figurals for sale?

Thanks,

Patrick

Would you be interested in vintage chest protectors? I have an early D&M Apron style and a very interesting early Inflatable Model I could sell. Both are quite rare, desirable and in nice shape.

Please just email or PM me if interested....

Thanks (and nice pickup on the Mask!)

Chest Protectors

Hi Perez Fan,

Thanks for the response. Before I got into card collecting, I had several of the early inflatable chest protectors.

They are cool items, but tough to display because of their size.

Thanks,

Patrick

Watched Yankees beat the A's in first major league game but 76 and 77 just awful.

Johnny Vander Meer demonstrating his "double no-hit" technique to hometown kids in NJ

2 Attachment(s)
I just picked up this neat original press photo of Vandy demonstrating the pitching technique that he used to baffle hitters in his second consecutive no-hitter in 1938 to some hometown kids in Midland Park, NJ.

Some pundits of baseball feel that this still remains one of baseball's most unassailable records. Think about it, in order to break Vander Meer's 82 year old record, a pitcher would have to throw THREE consecutive no-hitters! Yikes!!

thekingofclout 06-24-2010 04:45 AM

Boy Scott. That Vandy/Kids photo is absolutely terrific! I'm pretty darn sure those kids weren't paying for Johnny's signature...

Thanks again Scott for this fantastic ball!

Jeff, that's a fantastic ball.
For me, I continue my June run of 1940's/1950's signed magazines by picking up a signed 1957 Sports Stars magazine signed by Don Larsen.
