Yes Steve, either last year or the year before, all four final teams were #1's. That is the only time it has happened. Actually, even having three #1's in the final four is pretty rare.

Pre-tourney update:

We ended up having just shy of 100 entries. Good luck to all.

How about the games! This first group of 3 games is the craziest in recent memory.

slidekellyslide 03-18-2010 12:18 PM

If two posters can't get along then perhaps the Ignore Feature should be used?

Matt 03-18-2010 12:29 PM

Ouch - 2 folks had Notre Dame in their final four.

slidekellyslide 03-18-2010 12:31 PM

I'm pretty sure I had ND losing in the second round...now if Villanova falls I could be in trouble.

barrysloate 03-18-2010 01:05 PM

Villanova is up for with under a minute...I think they just dodged a bullet.

Fantastic idea, Dan, and one I suggested just yesterday.

barrysloate 03-18-2010 01:14 PM

What was Reggie Redding thinking?

Matt 03-18-2010 01:16 PM

Incredible group of early games - one upset, one OT and one double OT.

I wish Frank and Rob could finally call a truce. It would be nice.

I have a solution: the next time you guys have a disagreement, how about you guys just PM each other? Its a win-win: you would likely resolve your issues or at least agree to disagree, and the rest of us wouldn't have to be involved. So how about it?

I sent Frank a PM yesterday suggesting he block my posts because he finds the "Don't miss the boat, be sure to quote" so offensive. His response on the board was that I not e-mail or send him any more messages.

As I said to Frank in the PM, if I thought even for a minute that "Don't miss the boat, be sure to quote" truly was offensive, I never would have added it as a signature line. My guess is Frank doesn't like it because he has previously criticized the "quote" function on the board and urged people not to use it, and this signature line rebuts his thinking. I'd love to know if he really finds it "offensive," or if he thinks using such a hot-button word will win him favor.

Frank and I have had flare-ups in the past. There's no denying that. The fact he's referencing them now as part of his being offended by "Don't miss the boat, be sure to quote" is puzzling.

When I PM'd Frank yesterday, I explained it was for the sole reason of not derailing another thread. If anyone would like a copy of that PM, I'll be happy to forward it.

Sorry another thread got sidetracked.

barrysloate 03-18-2010 02:01 PM

Rob- since you do rotate your messages and have had dozens of different ones over the last few years, is it possibly time for a new one? How about: "it's a small mint...it's a junior mint." That of course is just a suggestion, there are many other worthwhile ones.:)

Anthony S. 03-18-2010 02:08 PM

Or maybe something from Bartlett's Familiar Quotations.

barrysloate 03-18-2010 02:14 PM

You mean something like "a stitch in time saves nine."

tiger8mush 03-18-2010 02:26 PM

I vote for a Yogi-ism!
"if you get hurt and miss work, it won't hurt to miss work"

BTW, all I can do is root for UCONN in the NIT. sad :(

Okay, so Frank, why don't you just PM him back if you have anything to say, and the rest of us will all be better off. We could actually talk about cards or whatever the thread was about!

T206DK 03-18-2010 03:05 PM

Ughhh !!!

that sound you may have just heard was my bracket imploding !!

tbob 03-18-2010 03:14 PM

Vandy has been a choke team in big games all year, I kick myself for thinking they'd change.
Nova played today like they have the last 3 weeks- uninspired and miserably. They were lucky they squeaked one out and preserved some brackets.

carrigansghost 03-18-2010 03:17 PM

Or the sound of many taking wagers on the kids in the playground having yet another slap fight. Let's start a new bitch thread for those that would like to continue with comparing the size of each one's little treasure. My bracket was done purely on name status only.

M's_Fan 03-18-2010 03:23 PM

BYU finally snapped its 7 consecutive first round loss streak! It took double-OT to do it!

GrayGhost 03-18-2010 03:28 PM

I took Florida, and lost at least one other game that I know of (notre Dame) I will need a good performance in the late games today to stay somewhat on track.

I wouldn't worry about it - with the way the scoring system works, so long as you pick the final 4 and the champion, you'll be fine.

slidekellyslide 03-18-2010 03:54 PM

Well, Rob and Frank are like Oil and Water...they aren't going to get along so I suggest Frank use the ignore list and I wish Rob would change his signature. I see no other reason to use that quote other than he knows it bothers Frank. I'm not going to make him change it (Frank's name isn't being used and I doubt more than 5% of this board's posters would know what it refers to except that Frank continues to bring it up), and I'm also not going to tell Frank he can't make anti-grading or anti-quoting posts.

My suggestion to Frank if he doesn't want to killfile Rob is to make an anti-Lajoie signature file. :)

ElCabron 03-18-2010 04:46 PM

For the record, FrankWakefield, I was a member of this board (and the one before that and the one before that) for many years prior to your arrival. I'm probably not the vintage card wizard you clearly are, but I know a couple of things about a couple of things. You complain about Rob running people off the board, well guys like you have run plenty of people off as well. I don't post nearly as much as I used to, but I still do read the board. Not as obsessively as I used to because it's still tough to get to the meat when you have to wade through so much crap like people constantly whining about someone's signature line. It's still worth it, though, because there is still an incredible wealth of knowledge on this board.

Oh, and I did go back and search for "official" quote threads. I found two that seemed like they might be the "official" ones and read through them both. You owe me 20 minutes of life.

The point is, I don't need to be "in the know" about whatever cat fight you and Rob have about quoting. It's clear that it's between you two and it sounds like he even tried to take it off the board and e-mail you privately, which you responded to by publicly posting a response on the board asking him not to you e-mail you.

Anyway, I hope you guys can figure out a way to co-exist without it driving you, and eventually everyone, completely crazy. There is still value in much of what both of you post.

Good luck.

-Ryan

Don't vote to float your boat with a quote or you'll surely get someone's goat!

Scott- Don't get down in the dumps. One year I was buried near the bottom after Day 1 and came back and won it. The key is for your teams which others ignored to make nice runs. I am looking for Texas to pull some upsets (I hate the Shorthorns but...) and other Big 12 teams like Baylor to make a strong showing.
Like Yogi said, "it ain't over 'till it's over."

Go Wisconsin and Marquette. As long as those Upper Midwest Super powers advance, my bracket will be just fine :). Great tourney so far.

carrigansghost 03-18-2010 08:29 PM

I really dislike Georgetown now.

GoldenAge50s 03-18-2010 08:36 PM

WOW! Big East now 1-3!

Can't figure GTown out. They play 1-2 games every yr here in the Dunkin Donuts Ctr & Ohio has probably never been here!

tbob 03-18-2010 08:58 PM

What an embarassment for the Big East! If Nova hadn't lucked out they would be 0-4. Notre Dame, Marquette, Georgetown, who's next? I have Pitt and West Virginia going to the Final Four (and no further) so I hope they don't take the gas too!

M's_Fan 03-18-2010 10:42 PM

Uw! Go huskies!

Oh man, I'm hoarse after that UW-Marquette game... UW was down by 15 and came back to win it! I sort of feel bad for Marquette, I really like their team and style of play.

Everyone wrote off the PAC-10 this year, and its true there was no dominant team, but there were a lot of good teams like UW and Cal.

is your PPR good (1760) then so is your sweet 16

The easy way to see if the guy(s) ahead of you on any given day of is projested to have a run that will be better then yours, is to look at the the persons PPR the higher the number is shows that the bracket has be best chance to go deeper. If you have a 1760 PPR after day one (which 3 people are) your still in great shape to score points and jump places in our little Net 54 group. An your

Good point. Actually, the leaderboard should be ranked by adding the PPR with your current score; that's who is really winning.

vintagebaseball 03-19-2010 10:01 AM

WOW, what happened to Georgetown, that is why you gotta love March Madness, you truly never know what is going to happen.

tbob 03-19-2010 10:45 AM

Texas put a dent in my bracket but seeing them lose was consolation. (All true Arkies hate the Horns, just ask James) :D
