Leon 03-06-2010 07:24 PM

the site is hanging up....

It looks as though the site is having a hiccup. There is a call into our hosting company. I will continue to call them every minute or two. We might have to make the extended bidding start a bit later or, at the very worst, have another auction close tomorrow night. Scott is out of pocket for another few minutes but I wanted to post as quick as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working on it.

edited to add that I just now spoke to our hosting company (8:26pm CST) and they are working on it now. We will handle this the best way we can keeping our consignors and bidders in mind.

Steve D 03-06-2010 07:25 PM

Now I can't even reach their website. I just get redirected to ask.com.

Breathe people...

I would not worry about. I am sure the issue will be fixed and there will be more than enough time for everybody to place bids. Can only imagine how many people sent poor Leon and Scott emails...

HRBAKER 03-06-2010 07:26 PM

Good luck with the fix. Hopefully it's a minor issue. Keep us posted.
I never stopped breathing or sent any e-mails.

You are right Greg :)

In the overall scheme, this is but a "flesh wound".

But come on now, baseball cards is serious stuff for some of us ;)

You can click the link at the top of this page and get to the B & L home page easy enough...but when you click the "auction" icon nothing happens.

Leon 03-06-2010 07:33 PM

to reiterate

We are working on it folks. Hang in there. We will make it right for everyone and apologize very much.

pow323 03-06-2010 07:37 PM

Site

I can not get on either!

Mikehealer 03-06-2010 07:37 PM

Seems to be working now.

sgbernard 03-06-2010 07:38 PM

It's back! Darn, I thought I was going to get off cheap!

Bridwell 03-06-2010 07:41 PM

Auction

I was able to log in just now. When I went to bid on a lot, it told me that the auction is over.

Mikehealer 03-06-2010 07:42 PM

Nope, false alarm.

sb1 03-06-2010 07:42 PM

We are back up

We apolgize for the problems. Fortunately the way the auction is set up everyone can still bid on any lot they wish.

carrigansghost 03-06-2010 07:42 PM

Same here. I timed out after hitting the bid button. Just a little auction nite excitement.

That's a great side effect of the way you guys have the auction set to end - none of us expected the auction to end at 9:45 PM EST so the site being down a bit right now doesn't really matter.

Kawika 03-06-2010 07:48 PM

Getting there but still funky. Just put in a bid and was told simultaneously that I am current high bidder and that my bid was too low and could not be accepted.

mintacular 03-06-2010 07:48 PM

How long

do you have to place a bid and is it to late to register? Thanks

Exactly.

3-2-count 03-06-2010 07:52 PM

Scratch that. Auction live again, but my bids time out when entered.
I will continue to try.

UPDATE: Bid finally taken. Whewww, I'm spent..... :p

buymycards 03-06-2010 08:03 PM

Bedtime

Still can't bid. Been up since 4:30 am. Time for bed.

tedzan 03-06-2010 08:06 PM

Auction site is acting FLAKY ! ?

It's 10 PM EST and cannot get thru to place bid or Auto Bid on my prevoius lot.

Very Frustrating...........

JP 03-06-2010 08:06 PM

Can't get in either...I'm sure they are working on it....but if no one bids for a period of time because it is down, I hope that doesn't close the auction....

barrysloate 03-06-2010 08:09 PM

I think it did close and they are working to reopen it.

nolemmings 03-06-2010 08:11 PM

It's open. It time out on me two times out of three, but when I did get on I bid and it took my bid as highest.

Bridwell 03-06-2010 08:19 PM

Auction Closed?

It looks like the auction has closed and reopened twice now! This is crazy!

JP 03-06-2010 08:22 PM

I'm leaving for the evening....maybe you could place a bid for me Lean?:)

Bicem 03-06-2010 08:23 PM

It is crazy, there are actually looting rioters in the streets of my neighborhood because of this!

I'm sure they'll get it all figured out and just end the auction tomorrow or something.

onlychild 03-06-2010 08:23 PM

Damn it! This is frustrating.

barrysloate 03-06-2010 08:26 PM

Just got an email that's it's back open, but still can't get in. I'll keep trying.

Leon 03-06-2010 08:27 PM

folks

All we can say is we apologize. We might have to end the auction tomorrow evening instead of this evening but that is not confirmed yet. Scott and I will discuss it and post about it here and email all registered bidders shortly, say in the next 30 minutes or less. I am sure the hosting company is working on it but we have to make a decision in the best interest of our consignors, while keeping our bidders in mind too. We apologize for this catastrophe. It was very much beyond our control.

barrysloate 03-06-2010 08:30 PM

I forgive you.

Bosox Blair 03-06-2010 08:32 PM

Looks like they got it fixed...seems to be working AOK now...

[5 mins later...spoke too soon...]

VintageBall 03-06-2010 08:33 PM

The site seems to finally be back and stable again.

Kawika 03-06-2010 08:37 PM

Not sure about the stable part. Managed to get a bid in a minute ago but then couldn't get back to the auction.

Jeff: Looting rioters, you say. That's just crazy. It's only old baseball cards.

Leon & Scott: Having fun yet?

Bosox Blair 03-06-2010 08:44 PM

I guess it is tomorrow...all the lots now have 22+ hours on them...

Jacklitsch 03-06-2010 08:47 PM

9:46 cst nope

mintacular 03-06-2010 08:48 PM

I

was on there for a few minutes but now it's frozen up again...

Leon 03-06-2010 08:50 PM

the only thing we can do

It looks as though our host got hit with a Denial of Service (DOS) attack. Someone was jamming the lines with IP addresses and it was cratering the site. We can not be 100% certain it won't happen again. We have made a decision to extend this auction by 1 day. It will now end tomorrow evening, with "open ended" extended bidding starting at 9pm EST. There is really not much else we could do since many folks had other things to do and were not able to bid properly. Same rules, same everything but the "open ended" extended bidding will start tomorrow night (March 7th), at 9pm CST. We apologize very much and will also send an email to all registered bidders. We feel this is the fairest thing to do at this point. The systems changes have been made already.

HRBAKER 03-06-2010 08:52 PM

Good call. See you tomorrow. Thanks for the update and keep smiling!

sb1 03-06-2010 08:56 PM

Addendum

Bidding is still open and will continue until 9:00 EST on Sunday evening March 7th, although it may be sporadic tonight while the entire system is scanned for the IP's wreaking havoc with our site. Apparently someone does not wish us good will.

Scott and Leon

bcbgcbrcb 03-06-2010 08:59 PM

Thanks for keeping us updated throughout, Leon/Scott. You did the best you could under the circumatances and made the right decision. Much tougher for bidders to deal with an all night auction tomorrow night with work on Monday but what can you do? Many of the auction houses regularly end their auctions on weeknights anyway........

calvindog 03-06-2010 09:07 PM

If Rooster Boy knew as much about computers as he does about double wides and poultry molestation I would strongly suspect he was the source of the problems.

Theoldprofessor 03-06-2010 09:32 PM

Another day?

I understand why you're doing it -- technology isn't always predictable -- but can I throw in a small plea from one insignificant bidder? Please drop the "extra 15 minute" rule. It's a sham. What's magic about 15 minutes? Why not keep the thing open an extra hour? Or a day? Or a week? Why ever close it? Eventually the really big spenders will find a way to amortize their earlier massive debts, probably with a federal subsidy, and find themselves able to outid the rest of the world. The longer the auction goes, the less likely it is that my top bid, based on what I can reasonably afford, will be able to survive.

This is, of course, great for those whose stuff is being auctioned. And for those with more money than brains. But not so good for the average collector.

Steve D 03-06-2010 09:39 PM

Don't fret too much Scott & Leon.....you're not the first auction house this has happened to. I can remember at least two other auctions just this year that had to extend a day due to website issues.
