Martindl, thank you for sharing

When I first saw the photos, my first thoughts were that they were T209's, until I looked at the bottom captions. Similar photos, different captions. I'm more of a T209 type II nut, if you would, please post the rest of your scans, they would be great for comparisons. Once again Martindl, Thank you. :) BTW, does anyone know what set they come from? Thanking all of you in advance. |
Bill- Michael J. Pollard was also in an episode of The Andy Griffith Show, playing Barney's inept cousin.

Here you go Joe. Obviously whoever penned the names of the players didn't know much about them as half of them are misspelled.

Those are great photos. Really. I'd rather have those than T206 HOFers.
Those photos don't derail this thread, they are a testament to what can result from a little love for T210s. With those photos, and with those associated T210s, you have to go to a library or historical society in Columbus, and get copies of the newspaper stories of coach Fox's Columbus Foxes of 1909 and 1910. There's one great book out there waiting to be written. The info can be collected, what would have been difficult would have been finding those images. And you have that!!! Baseball in Columbus, 1909 and 1910. I'm glad some folks got the Krebs reference. How often is that Krebs name encountered?? Not very... Now the really trick question is what was Maynard G. Krebs' middle name. A bit of help, it didn't start with a G.... (This will derail T210 discussion.) |
Martindl, Gracias - Merci - Cum upsubida - Thank you

Been checking my set, and the background is very much like many in the T209 Type II set. Folks, I love the challenge of the T210 set, but the background of the T209's is where it's at. Thanks again to Martindl, and anyone else that may have similar cards, "Come on down." :) |
What a great thread! Like many already here, I'm also ardent about the T210 set. The Columbus images posted about are truly fantastic. Though the cards are really great, I also enjoy photographs related to the teams.
Here's an imperial-sized cabinet photograph of the 1909 Norfolk team: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...s/norfolk1.jpg Here are the players' head shots paired with their T210s: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...0imperials.jpg Joe, I agree with you, nothing can match the backgrounds of the T209-2 cards. -Zach Rice |
Now cut that out, Zelda!

Frank: The "G" stood for Walter. Tesreau got his nickname for his supposed resemblance to boxer Jim Jeffries. Good SABR bio at this link: http://bioproj.sabr.org/bioproj.cfm?...=993&pid=14079
I got my T210 from a David Bryan eBay auction last October. I was surprised how little action it got. It's the only sale recorded in the vcp.com database. There's gotta be another one out there I'm sure. Martin: Really, really cool photos. Thanks for posting them. If there are anymore please show 'em. Love all that wood and chickenwire, and the old draftsman lettering. RDixon: Thanks for making Hub Northen come alive. Potomac Joe: "The goy on the right"? And all this time I thought Angermeier was Jewish. :) Zach: You should do your PhD in minor league T cards. Awesome post! A great thread thus far. Terrific images and commentary, and even obscure pop culture references from the rockin' fifties. |
David, you have some great pick ups.
Zach, I luv that Norfolk cabinet, and the head shots along side the T210's, are super. Keep 'em coming, I still can't get over Martindl's fotos. |
Davis is correct. Maynard G. Krebs' middle name was Walter. He was named after his Aunt Walter who was married to Uncle Edith.

And their kid was named Jim VB Krebs. :D |
Like a couple other posters have mentioned, I like the T210 set because of the Series 3 Texas Leaguers. Specifically, I'm looking for the San Antonio players, since that's where I call home :)

Re. Series 8, I was told by a couple of separate people that Chattanooga cards were more scarce than other teams. Didn't make sense then and still doesn't today.
Anything behind this ? |

"An elite "1 of 1" at its tier with none graded higher, this remarkable piece stands alone at the pinnacle of its scant, five-card PSA census." Too bad they couldn't get his name right on the flip.

Zeenuts to Red Borders
I'm one of the collectors who bought what he could in the Zeenut series' before they started drying up and turned to the available T210s. It was an acquired taste for me and I used to think they were unattractive but now I like them. I won 7 on ebay last week and was underbidder on probably 7 more including most of the ones that were mentioned above as "good deals." As I was away on vacation and away from a computer, I used a sniper and wish I had bid higher

Besides T209's .....
I love looking at the T210's on this thread .....
And how about those cards, with the T209 style background? :) |
