It's the photo that one of the most popular Exhibit cards was made from..

As far as rarities go, this original vintage Conlon TYPE I photograph is the only known example in private hands...thankfully, those hands are mine :)

Rarity
The SOVEREIGN 460 red Cobb is extremely rare....only 4 have been confirmed.

I would bet there are more Red Cobb/Ty Cobb cards in circulation than this Coupon one. <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/1910couponcobb.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> T-Rex TED |

Tin Top Rarity...
2 Attachment(s)
This is the only example I have ever seen... I know he has an Atlanta Colgan Tin Top which is rare as well. Harry split time between Atlanta and Nashville in 1912-13, while winning back to back Southern League Batting Titles. I always get a charge out of looking down the list of Southern Batting Champs and seeing Speaker in 1907, Jackson in 1910, and Welchonce in 1912 and 1913...
|
Great thread and proves there are far more rarer cards than "The Card".
Been trying to upgrade this one for a few years (the back is even worse). Just can't seem to lacate another anywhere. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...RuthGehrig.jpg |
Very Nice 31-32 Exhibit, if you ever upgrade I would be interested in that one for sure. Here is a 33 Exhibit Ruth-
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...33exnyal50.jpg |
I would venture to guess this may be the nicest one in existence (of the few that there are)...

And one of those B.S. condition rarities, just for the hell of it. ;) <a href='http://img241.imageshack.us/i/e93cobbpsa8300dpi2.jpg/'><img src='http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/7166/e93cobbpsa8300dpi2.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a><br/> |
Richard,
Nice Clement Bros. Cobb. Is that the holy grail for Cobb collectors? Paul, Awesome autographed T206 Johnson. JimB |
I'll allow THAT one Jim!
|
Jim, beautiful card, truly. Not sure how that one didn't get a bump.
As for the holy grail for Cobb collectors...hmm...I'd have to say that it is the Boston Garter color card which Hunt auctioned off a couple years back. |

I'm not passionate about Cobb cards, but he is one of the players I collect. The Clement Bros. is by far my favorite cobb card. |

Geez, I've been missing out on all the fun. Sorry, these aren't to scale and I don't know why they are squished up next to each other. They are: 1904 Allegheny Frank Selee, 1902 W600 Hugh Jennings as a player with Philadelphia, T5 Pinkerton of Joe McCarthy as a player, Acebo (Cuban) of Chuck Connors, and Imperial Chocolate (Cuba) of Ruth and Hornsby.
|
Wow, great stuff, guys!

"RARITY" can also be a function of supply vs demand
Not sure how rare my Obak Ten Million card is....but, in terms of the "law of supply vs demand", this card
in my opinion is in effect....a "RARE" card. <img src="http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt113/zanted86/obakcarlisletenmillion.jpg" alt="[linked image]"> TED Z |

There are a ton of great cobb cards, but I would put the BG cobb near the top of the list as well.

Not one of the E95 notebook cover Chances (they all have Chicago at the bottom). The NY name means it was issued or prepared to be issued or proofed to be part of a new but never issued set years after the E95 set was issued. Two others exist, a Kling Boston (mine) and one other which belongs to Keith Olberman (drawing a blank).

My kind of thread. Some great stuff, guys. I've posted 5 cards not typically found in your grandfather's attic. |
Bruce- I purchased the Birdsall as well as the other ten Boston players from a woman who was selling them on ebay. She claimed she pulled all the Wright material out of a dumpster!
That's even better than her grandfather's attic.:) |
I have yet to see another one of these. This is a U.K. studio.

Who is the guy in the top cdv? |
I believe the player in the "top CdV" is Johnny Ryan. Along with this Warren CdV, he is also pictured on a Warren cabinet in full Boston uniform. This is interesting because he never played for Boston. Maybe others can solve this apparent mystery.
|
Gary's correct, it's Johnny Ryan. Do you have an image of the team cabinet, Gary?
I believe Scott Forest addressed Ryan and his interesting career in a publication years ago but I don't remember the exact details. |
Gary is correct, it's Johnny Ryan.

Wow, seeing all of these extremely rare cards is jaw-dropping!
Too bad I have none to contribute. Ah well, I am just as content browsing!:D |
The team cabinet is pictured in the December 2005 Sotheby's/SCP Auction catalogue. It is in Lot #1.
|
I should have said individual cabinet instead of team cabinet.

I wont post any high grade E98s (or E93s since thats Jim B's department) but here are a couple of 1/1 cards.

I post these too much...
But here are my top 3 unique "mystery" cards :) Mystery Ruth Premium (either a prototype R309-2, or a R340?) http://centuryoldcards.com/images/1933r340ruth.jpg Unique, extra wide green border and green name plaque, better photo quality than the R309-2, different style easel. Some have said it might be a R340 Sport Kings Premium (unissued as planned, see wrapper scan) http://centuryoldcards.com/images/sportkingswrapper.jpg ca.1941 D-unc. Kroger Bread http://centuryoldcards.com/images/1941krogerriddle.jpg unique, never seen another...yet postwar unique Aaron http://centuryoldcards.com/images/19...rbeeraaron.jpg discovered on eBay 2 years ago, unique, never seen another...yet (different style than the more common HR Derby cards, players name moved from bottom to top and beer logo placed at bottom) |
