Grabbed this off the Bay, one step closer to 518, with a long ways to go still:

Crescents

Pete, congrats on picking up both Crescent variations. The "The Perfect Food" variation is a new discovery with only three cards known to exist. Wondering if you have found a fourth, can you post front scans?

Here's a link to the five Crescents I once owned still listed on SGC registry for reference. I also researched and wrote a short introduction on the Vancouver "Hanbaury baseball team" which can be viewed with the cards.

Short print #11 Norm Goodall can be viewed in this photo, front row 2nd from the left. Photo retreved from "City of Vancouver Archives".

Nice finds Phil - that Toledo club was loaded with major leaguers - though a lot were short timers.

Already had this card in a 40 holder but as pointed out so often, how can you pass up a card like this which is dirt cheap?

Don't know if it's Flick, Brian, but Addie looks a little worse for the wear--probably a hard night the night before ;)

bmarlowe1 07-21-2009 11:04 AM

For sure not Flick.

My guess is Jay "Nig" Clarke.

Deacon was both a catcher and manager of the Naps at the time.

EDIT: Nope, not Clarke as Clarke was also a catcher having caught Joss' perfect game in 1908. The glove on his hand is a fielders glove.

I'll now go with Heine Berger.

bmarlowe1 07-21-2009 11:57 AM

Neither Clarke nor Berger

Sorry Brian (and Steve) - I didn't mean to make it seem like I was holding back. Right now I don't know. I have a good clear identified images for Cle AL 1910 and 1911 - including a lot of identified spring training prospects. I don't see the guy in any of those.

At this point I would guess that he is either a 1908 or 1909 player (they are 1908 uni's) that only appeared in a relatively few games, or a prospect that never made the roster (or a coach or trainer). I'll dig around and see what I can find.

BTW - great photo! The lack of ID's in SABR's Deaball Stars of the Am Lg was a subject of very contentious criticism within SABR when the book was released. IMO - the research for getting the ID's should have been done.

This is my first post in the new forum. (Can I still call it new?) I have been absent from posting for several months, but was still looking every once in a while. Below is my most recent pickup. I was very excited to get it and I thought now was as good a time as any to start posting into Net 54.

I just picked this up last week. The cleanest 1914 cracker jack I've seen since the near perfect set of 1914's walked into the Cleveland National a few years ago. Not one drop of caramel stain.

Decided to grab a nice BIN on eBay for a McLean T206. I had sold a lesser condition one years ago. Now I have all the catchers with masks on in the T206 set again.

The late Randy Stuckemeyer (RIP my friend) had a set of 1914's that was off the charts condition-wise. It is thought that that particular set was a factory one...and I am pretty sure there are a few more cards from 1914 that have been found that were thought not to have been put in with the Cracker Jacks themselves either. Almost all of them could only be had in the boxes hence the normal staining. It's actually a cause for alarm when one doesn't have staining (not a guarantee of an issue but certainly something to look at closer)....regards

1933 Exhibit 4/1 with Grove, Cochrane, Foxx and Simmons...

I've been looking for this card for about 13 years... It is the last of the Grove 4/1 Exhibits that I needed...
