The Standard Catalog has no entries for 1897, which is where we've halted.

In 1896 the Catalog shows Mayo N301s.

In 1895 there are Mayo N300s, Newsboy Cabinets, and Police Gazzette Supplements.

For 1890 I have the 4 page supplement that was in Harper's Weekly, if we can get that far along.

Have we given up on this?

Looking for 1892

FrankWakefield 05-06-2009 06:46 PM

I've not given up... just waiting. I'll post for 1890 unless someone else has an 1890 item they want to show... This was interesting. Once we get to the 1860s we should do it again, with items from series posted here disqualified.

Kawika 05-06-2009 07:09 PM

According to Terry Knouse, from whom I purchased this cabinet, this dates to 1890.

Well we missed 1892 back there...

1889

This was the 2nd time Harpers Weekly had a baseball image on its cover.

Here's the November 9, 1889 first page, showing William Ewing, Captain of the New York Base-Ball Club. 9 1/2" x 12"...

I can't touch 1884... I've dug through a box of stuff and can help with 1882 and 1869. After that I'm done.

1884 anyone?

1882

Harper's Weekly.

Some old guys that played in some windy city on a lake in Illinois somewhere.

http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...&pictureid=227

Williamson, Kelly, Filet, Goldsmith
Quest, Barnes, Anson, Dalrymple, Gore
Nicol, Corcoran

Piano Legs Gore looks pretty dapper there, with his white tie, and all.
Cap Anson is dashing in those stripes.

These guys won the National Leage in 1882, this was in the October 14th, 1882 issue of Harper's Weekly.

My next entry won't be until 1878...

FrankWakefield 05-09-2009 10:52 AM

I've got another box I've yet to dig through, but I'm doubtful that I can do anything here until the Cincinnati Redlegs of 1869. This thread has reached 3000 views, is that enough 'hits' for a Thread Hall of Fame?

Help, guys. Where's the 'vintage' OLD stuff???

Nice, Craig. I'd not seen one of those before.

doug.goodman 05-09-2009 02:42 PM

Fantastic Craig. Those are new to me, too. They're beautiful.

I think at this point, multiple posts are appreciated, especially when they're non-Harper's issues.

I'm getting on a plane pretty soon. I'll post 1874 when I land, unless somebody has 1877-76-75 ready to go.

19th Century Scorecard

This scorecard is circa 1870's (or 1880's).
I'm not sure, but anyhow, it's neat....scoring boxes are printed on reverse.
I thought it was appropo for this really interesting thread.

Can any one here please provide an accurate date of this scorecard ?

Ted- we don't know the exact date, but it is likely late 1880's. You don't find color ones like that in the 70's.
