I think it is early 20’s but would like info on age value and if worth restoring or if it can be restored or leave as is
Imprinted on one side is “Johnstone” other side says “pat pending “
Any info on this item would be great
Thanks in advance

Ron

I have no experience with its worth.

But I would not restore it.

I love the look and the state it is in. IT has character and history.

To me restoring it takes away from it.

But either way Great Pick yp

1940s on the mask

Ron 08-03-2021 09:58 AM

from info I found
If u look at info provided by keyman collectibles
Umpire James Johnstone patented this style mask in 1921 and pictures are provided of masks from various manufacturers in their catalogues
this one looks identical to the mask in the 1927 reach catalogue although looks like could be one in the 1922 spalding catalogue as well
based on this info and the johnstone imprint and pat pending imprint I think more likely 1920's and not 1940's and of course they made the same mask for many years so this one could of been made into the 40's but judging by wear and how the leather looks etc I would say 20's

That style of mask was still popular well into the '50s as well. I'd say mid-late 1930s on that one. Great stuff.

Picked this up at the last RMY auction. Love the photo and if this is really signed I would be super excited. Did some quick research and found an Andy Cooper card signed from and auction and a ball signed by the team with Biz Mackey and signatures look pretty close.

PS: My photos are too large, so hopefully this link works.

I picked up these over sized photos in Pittsburgh while at the Clemente Museum. Although they aren’t type 1s they are printed off the original negatives and I thought they were attractive enough to share here.

Picked up a nice 1920s Frank Frisch 40K bat. There's a small "R" stamped on the knob. I wonder what that could of been for?
