I was wondering the same thing when I saw the scans and I was honestly expecting there to be some kind of unexpected flaw when I got it in hand. I was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't find anything. If someone had covered up the label and asked me to guess the grade I probably would have said a PSA 3.5 or maybe a PSA 3 to be on the safe side, but I've seen worse looking cards in PSA 4 holders.

Nice 52 Mantle...i collect mantle and hoping some day i can afford a low grade/auth card.
As far as looks....looks awesome just the corners might be light, which is ok in my book.
If theres anything you need or find, let me know. I ran across a bunch of folks that take their auctions off Ebay and use paypal to cut cost.
Sometimes its a waiting game, its definetly worth to get a nicely centered card. than hopping on the 1st one that you see.

the 'stache 01-21-2013 05:23 AM

That '52 Topps Mantle is gorgeous. Count me as one of the ones shocked that it got a 2, even with that stain on the back.

I'll definitely have to redo the pic but I'm psyched up enough about this one I'll share it early

After nine years of searching, finally found a 1956 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Issue - Bill Mazeroski and it's autographed to boot (for some reason, the scanner cut off the edge of the card)..........

novakjr 01-22-2013 06:40 PM

Absolutely beautiful, Phil. Congrats.

Gmrson 01-22-2013 07:59 PM

Great looking Maz! Did you have to work on getting someone to part with it or did this one just show up for sale?

Bestdj777 01-22-2013 08:23 PM

Another Mantle

Excited to finally add this to my collection. Only slightly broken, but I'll take it.

That's an amazing card for sure! Congratulations on the pickup!!

T206Collector 01-25-2013 09:07 AM

Thanks, guys. I was waiting for one without the print marks or reverse staining. And this one has such a lush image. I'm really happy with it!

Exhibitman 01-26-2013 07:44 AM

Awesome Maz PC, Phil. He looks like he is on his high school team.

I got a few trinkets:

My son proudly holding his first baseball card - came in the mail today - he picked it out himself - best way to spend Daddy’s eBay bucks:

'59 team issue Bob Gibson. Somehow, I lucked into the better conditioned of the two that were on the bay in the last two days.

Nice card-- I only saw the lesser conditioned one and was the underbidder - thought I could snag it for $6.

Oh well!! Great pick-up!

bcbgcbrcb 01-28-2013 01:32 PM

C'mon, Derek, you could have gone $7 on that one, no?

Yeah, I was the other non-winning bid on the beater. I'm on a thin budget this week, and with what that went for, I really didn't think that this one would go cheap enough for me. Shipping included, landed it for 3 less..

Gmrson 01-28-2013 04:05 PM

my first 2 1953 Glendale Tigers cards. Pick up as a pair. Kueen is a filler for now.

The first card my dad bought me was a '72 Clemente back in 1986, the pinnacle of my collection. Your son will never forget it!

Great card! That was my 1st Clements card too. I really wanted one of him after reading about him as a kid.

CharleyBrown 01-29-2013 04:10 AM

Thanks all for the comments. My son loves baseball, and at 3 1/2, he already loves the classic players. He wants to play baseball in the house everyday, and has a lineup of players he pretends to be (Clemente, Jackie Robinson, Cobb, Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, etc.). His two favorites are Clemente and Jackie, which I think is great because their legacy goes well beyond the game as well. Definitely a lot of fun - and it’s always great to see people’s reactions when they ask him who his favorite players are.

Mike - sweet ’53 Glendales - that Owen Friend presents very well!

David - awesome Gibson RC pickup!

He's awesome! I was that way at about 8. Read every baseball bio in the kids section at our library. There is so much more now to enjoy with the internet. He'll be a historian by the time he's 10!

Good to see you on here Mike! I didn't realize that was you and was getting ready to PM you saying that I know a guy collecting Heritage bucks, then I saw your name:)
