Scott,
Congrats. Those are some special items. I can only image a personal relic, like glove, uni, hat, or trophy ball, from one of his two no hitters as being a more ultimate VDM pickup than his birth cert or Navy discharge paperwork.

Michael,
I really hope you decide to restore that poster. That blue color looks fantastic and should really pop once done.

My new ones.

1929 type 1 of Lou Gehrig at his home in Larchmont, NY with Benny Bengough showing off some fishing equipment. Very excited to get this one. I already had another picture of the same scene, but it has no slug on it. I thought it was Lou and Bengough at Lou's home, but wasn't sure as their faces are partially obscured. I also didn't know the date. It's nice to be able to confirm the second photo's contents.

1937 felts

1 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a couple more of these 1936-7 felts. Some say they are remnants of felt beanies but I have my doubts. No smoking gun. No stitch marks or any signs other than fraying that they were ever attached to one another. All opinions and ideas welcome.

Vintage trophy

Some amazing pickups by people here this month! I like mine although it set me back a few dollars. This is probably next months pickup as well!

If you can't read the center of the trophy because of the reflection from the camera-- it says---Rockwell Silver Company Trophy Annual Baseball Game Peacock Vs Hyman and Co. 1913 Won by Peacock's 18-6 L.Perlman Mgr.

The interesting this is that surviving on the backside are pieces of an article about this game/trophy as well as a picture. The trophy has never been removed from its case as far as I can tell.

Now that's cool! The attached pic of the guy looking at the trophy really makes this piece sweet! ;)

Trophy

Thanks. This piece comes from the estate of C.D. Peacock........Charles Daniel Peacock....whose father started a jewelry company in the early 1800's in Chicago Illinois and I think are still in business to this day. The Rockwell Silver Co. started in business in Meriden, Ct. in 1905 and was founded by Lucien Rockwell and James W. Mackay.

perezfan 02-09-2014 06:50 PM

That's a beautiful and very unique style of Trophy... I agree that the newspaper photo makes for a tremendous complimentary component.

Congrats!

I picked up both of these items at separate times but wanted to combine modern with vintage for display purposes (the drawing was created by Scott Silvers). I just got the piece back from the frame shop yesterday and it looks great now that I have it hanging up:D Overall dimensions are 45" x 30".

I picked up a great Herb Pennock George Brace photo. It's an 8x10 and is currently for sale if anyone is interested. (The scratches are on the plastic sleeve it's in)

Besides the print mark or whatever it is on his forehead I picked up this paul thompson cicotte photo

http://i450.photobucket.com/albums/q...psbf0a918f.jpg

Runscott 02-11-2014 06:52 PM

Joey, normally I wouldn't recommend this, but I think you should consider getting that print touched up to cover the black spot on Cicotte's forehead.

Here's some photos I picked up of the Detroit Tigers Old Timers picnic/game.There's a total of 19 photos from 1943 and 1949.Any help with ID'ing some of the players would be appreciated. They're a little tough to take pictures of because of the curling of the photos.

Bumpus Jones 02-15-2014 07:29 AM

Very cool Ed! If you know anyone with a scanner that would be your best bet...

Runscott 02-16-2014 12:32 AM

I love my new 1910's glove. The padding and interior cloth is perfect, it smells like fresh leather, and it feels like it just came off the field. I can't wait to play catch with it.

Thanks ..I tried using my scanner but I got nervous about actually cracking the photos if I put too much pressure on them to straighten them.

Great pickups, my favorite being the Captain Sal Bando jacket...

Fred Tenney, Carl Horner Cabinet

Fred Tenney was born in Georgetown, MA, where I currently reside. There is a street named after him in town here.

AWESOME Tenney image. It's hard to compete with the beauty of those Horner cabinets.

I can safely say that this is the best piece I have ever owned. It is the 1910 World Series trophy awarded to Jack Lapp when the Philadelphia A's won it. This is about 12" high and weighs about 11 pounds. It is in perfect condition.

gnaz01 02-18-2014 06:54 PM

Wow! We see a lot of great stuff on here, but that one has got to be near the top of the list.

So, how much beer can it hold? ;)

Just picked up these two images of the 1920's "Olson's Terrible Swedes" barnstorming team. This team traveled throughout the Midwest and West and were only surpassed as barnstormers of this period by the Original Celtics and Harlem Rens. Olson later formed Hall of Fame "All-American Red Heads" female barnstorming team.

Charlie Jamieson game used bat

3 Attachment(s)
Just picked up this Charlie Jamieson gamer. It's the single dash-dot-dash, so I believe it's from 1917-21. What's cool is that he was the lead-off hitter in the 1920 World Series (when they beat the Dodgers). He also led the A.L. in hits in '23 (beating out Speaker and Ruth)...even came in 3rd for the MVP in '24.

UnVme7 02-23-2014 08:27 AM

I saw that bat for sale and thought it looked like a nice one. Can you see if the bat is sidewritten at all?

Tough to tell. At times I think I see the remnants of side writing...but the bat is so dark, makes it very difficult. Maybe a uv light would help.

MGHPro 02-23-2014 12:54 PM

I would bet its sidewritten . I also think it would clean up very well if you don't like the soiled look
