Thanks Larry. There’s one I found locally that looks beat up so thought might have found something rare for an instant.

Anyone remember his card from a few years ago. Does anyone know the story behind it? Apparently PSA and SGC would not grade it.

Larry, sweet Big League Statue box. On my want list. Say No to complete box cutting. |
Hello everyone. I'm brand new here and I wanted to show off the part of my small collection that I'm most proud of. The dream is to own a card from every year the Mick played, 52 will give me the toughest time in terms of how much it costs, but I have plenty of time left to reach my goal. Most of the cards are ungraded, I do have to send them into PSA in the near future, as they were apart of a collection I started with my father when I was young. Most of them would probably be low grades anyway, but I'm not too concerned about that. Not like I'm intending on selling them anyway. The most recent additions are the 54 Bowman and the 61 Topps, which I acquired over this past summer. Thanks so much for your time, the Album is below!

You sure have some nice Mickeys, buddy. Don't be in a hurry, James, and even with collecting Mantle, it's still a good idea to be selective / picky and thus choose cards that have good eye appeal to YOU. Have fun and keep us posted.:D Stay safe, and have a swell day. --- Brian Powell |
Postcard from 1963

I am looking for any information on this early 1960s Mantle postcard. The only image I found so far was one picture with limited info on the Worthpoint site. In a different article, I read that Mickey was admitted to Lenox Hill Hospital in 1961 during the HR chase. Could this postcard be from 1961, but was still being mailed to fans in 1963? Was Mantle at Lenox Hill again after 1961? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Posted something like this 4-5 years ago but got some free time and a little helper (my son), so I figured I’d get an updated picture of the collection minus a pin I forgot to take out of the box and a couple of posters that are in tubes somewhere... It’s always nice to flip through things every once in a while and discover some things I forgot I even bought.

I stand up and cheer, Chris! While I cannot see very clearly amidst the tiny picture, I KNOW you got the goods----that's one powerful array of Mick Charles, as he fancied calling himself not too long before he made the bigs, a neat take-off on Nick Charles, THE THIN MAN. I find it precious that you have a little helper, a natural way to bud his curiosity.
While my little guy never caught the baseball card bug, he most assuredly has the collecting bug. He has a spectacular collection of Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as 90s video games, housed in glass cases. Though I do not have my collection of cards in a glass case, I chose the venue of a converted five-drawer heavy steel blueprint cabinet. My cards don't get hit with any light, except for the few minutes when I pull a drawer out to admire. You might recall these photos, Chris, from the summer of 2016, when I posted them on here. Nothing's changed, though I've added a pair of gorgeous 1962 Gehl's Gold Mine Ice Cream premiums of Roger Maris to enrich my Mantle - Maris collection. To load up the photos below, I again needed the help of my former little helper, who is now 32; my dear son Sam. All the best to you and your family, Chris----always!:D ---Brian Powell |
Thanks Brian! I swapped it out for a larger photo. I love your display and the mix of new and old cards. I also love the cabinet—I’d be in heaven if I had room for a flat file as I could store my cards and art altogether.

Chris, Brian, and Larry -
Thanks!! What a great way to start the week. Very tasty eye candy indeed!! Love the pictures! Now if I can just pull myself away to get some work done. |
Not sure how this is only a 5. I mean yeah, the centering is off, but it’s in the 30/70 range at worst... I have gone over it with a fine toothed comb several times, and can’t really find anything else.

Anyone seen this Mantle item before?
3 Attachment(s)
OK Mantle guys. Help me out here! Anyone ever seen the below?
The info I got on them is these statues were bagged, stapled onto a baseball like tag with a string that were sent to a cap company soliciting them to use them as a promo item for their baseball caps. The cap company decided not to use them. The company who made the statues obviously then offered them to Tastee Freez for them to use to promote attaching the statue to their ice cream bowl. See ad below. I picked up Mantle, Musial both shown as well as Campy, Berra, Reese, Lemon and Antonelli Curious if anyone else has any of these? Sorry, don't know how to rotate the Mantle Musial photos Fred |
Tastee freez
Btw....does anyone have the cups that the statue fits on
I found the cups the fit the international dolls they gave away but the baseball players dont fit |

Nice...yeah the cups for the international statues dont fit like that

What do you know about the bagged figures? Fred |
Statues
Just a guess...would be leftovers from tasteefreez/dairy queen

The cups are cool. Is there any writing on them? |

As I mentioned in my first post, the info I got was that they were offered to the cap company first and all others sent to the cap company were destroyed. THN they went to Tastee Freeze The only thing on the cup is underneath on the bottom. See: Why do all my photos turn sideways???? |
Mantle
Only makes sense tastee freez 1st
They already had statues and cups for other promotions Sell the leftovers after the promotion |
Thanks Fred. I appreciate the photo - something else to search for. I tend to agree with Larry but who knows at this point

I purchased my first vintage card (58 Topps Mantle) last weekend and this might be the most painful wait for mail... I feel like a 5 year old running to check the mailbox (or shipping notifications) haha

Haha just arrived and couldn't be happier with first purchase! This one might be a little miscut (thoughts?) but was fairly cheap for the grade. Regardless, I'm hooked and already looking for the next purchase!

I know this is a pickup thread, but, figured I pick all of your collective brains concerning what I'm looking for. I've taken recent interest in the 52 Berk Ross Mantle. It just seems like one of the more affordable options in terms of owning a Mantle from 1952. The only listings I'm seeing for it are from Deans Cards, who from what I've seen from other posts, charges a good amount in terms of a markup. Could anyone maybe ballpark a price for a decent looking (Maybe a PSA 2 or 3) one? At this point it's looking like either a Berk Ross or a 52 Bowman. The 52 Topps is just a little out of my price range at the moment.

Picked up this Mantle recently. It crossed at PSA as a 1 which is what I expected. The color and eye appeal is sharp! No creases.

Meant to drop this in here a few days ago, and forgot about it for some reason.
This is probably the first place I should have placed it. This is more of an "accumulation" of small pickups over time, and here is the end result. https://i.imgur.com/soZgw75l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0XrVjVFl.jpg If you want to know how this came about, I documented most items here in a dedicated thread along the way. ~~~~~~~~> https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=271449 :) |
