Offseason pennant purcahses. Some less commonly seen (by me) Giants pennants, and a few interesting Astros pennants (it's kind of hard to find interesting Astros pennants). The orange Astros pennant is 15 inches. The 1966 pennant is 18 inches.

The cream colored pennant is very distinctive with no others of that style. The enclosed Candlestick Park would put it in the 1970s. The black and orange pennant is early SF...it looks to be a direct descendant of a NY pennant. |
Giants
Rob- I like the Green. I'll have to find one to go with the blue.
Someone posted in a different thread about the cream pennant being rare, and it is listed as "extremely rare" in Mike Egner's book (and as being from 1961). Is it really all that rare? |
Quote:
It’s not 1961...they didn’t “enclose” the outfield of Candlestick until 10 years later. |

Added to my collection of the neat early 50s series; actually I had this Tigers pennant but it was much dirtier. Tigers sure did it right when it came to pennants. I've discussed this before, think this dates to 1951-53 because of the Cubs 75th anniversary version. Brooklyn dates it '52 or '53. Have two different versions of Senators; one of two Red Sox (Mark S. has both, I believe), also some come in different colors (Cubs, Pirates). Need Cardinals (super duper rare) and Browns (even rarer) to complete set. ... Also have seen these pennants in a smaller size with a longer strip.

That’s s beauty, Greg!
LOVE that particular series of Pennants. Congrats on finding such a clean example. That yellow/orange felt was really conducive to soiling. |
Beautiful NY Titans pennant Erik!

Can anyone help me on these? I just recently purchased the grey pennant and told the seller I could try to get more info for them on the red. The grey seems fairly knew but I am unsure as I am new to collecting pennants. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Go Buckeyes!
I’m no expert on college FB, but I don’t think either of those are particularly old and/or rare. Still, go Bucks! |
Yeah...The red one is fairly common. It may be a few decades old but typically sells for $10-$15 on Ebay (as recently as 09/29/17).
Now if you come across this one, let me know. ;) <a href="http://imgbox.com/1sg06ER5" target="_blank"><img src="https://images2.imgbox.com/62/25/1sg06ER5_o.jpg" alt="image host"/></a> |
A recent pick up...
One of the few rare ones to show up on Ebay lately...

^^^^ Love it! The condition looks outstanding.
|
wOW, GREAT STUFF''' JUST WENT THRU FIRST 20 PAGES :D
|
Love the pennant, Rob! Good pickup!
|
+1
That's the only one I've seen with orange felt. The other two were black, and that's it... super rare early Bears version, and condition looks incredible. Jealous! :p |

Acquired a fourth oversized Athletics pennant recently (three pictured), the new one is below the oversized 'Sox' pennant. Has three sets of tassels and everything is embroidered.

Great pennant collection!
Mike |
Wow Greg... sensational! And great Oversized Athletics Pennant. Never seen that variation... awesome!
A question.... when you acquire a new one now, does something have to come off the wall in order to make room? Or do you still have some available wall space? It looks pretty full  I'm at the point where something has to come down to allow for any new entries. But I do have a few of those 'Under the Bed" storage bins that are typically used for wrapping paper. They work equally well for pennants! |
Hey Mark...If you need to sell me some of your football pennants to make room, just let me know. ;)
Rob |
Thanks Mike and Mark!
I have two big tubs of pennants in holders, I keep buying even though most go in storage. So I guess it's an addiction now. Every now and then I'll put up some different ones. I think in five years or so I'll be selling them all off, that will be another can of worms as far as how to go about this without "flooding the market", so to speak. |

Greg that is a pretty sick collection! I saw that collegiate of ames Yankees pennant on the wall I love those 3D pennants. Let me know if you need a place to put any spares.

I am pretty sure they did a Yankees, Giants and Red sox version. Also this beauty which I have never seen before is on ebay now and has 40 bids.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOOTBALL-19...19.m1438.l2649 Have you seen any other ones like this where it is two different schools mascots on one pennant? |

This is the picture on the pennant between UNC and Rice for the 1950 Cotton Bowl. Has anyone seen anything like this?
|
I've never seen them like that on a CoA pennant before, but its common to see two schools featured on the old decals which tend to share the same graphics that CoA used on the single school pennants. I'd love to find a rose bowl one like this!

Speaking of rare pennants with both teams' logos depicted, here are a couple from 1914 and 1915, respectively. The Overland Car Company sponsored an "Employees Day" those two years. They actually brought Major League Baseball Teams to Swayne Field in Toledo, to play an Exhibition Game in recognition of their factory workers. Prior to the game, the Players accompanied the Auto Employees in a "celebratory march" from the Overland Factory to Swayne Field. Imagine a company today bringing in top stars the likes of Cobb, Crawford, Matty, Bresnahan, Bender, Collins, Baker, Tinker, Evers, Chance, etc. to accompany the employees. Those were different time, to say the least... These pennants were given to the fans, to wave during the parade and at the game. I was extremely lucky to find one of each, and have never seen another example surface. If anybody has one, I'd love to see it here! |

Those are great pennants Mark.

Wowie zowie!
So, Mark (aka perezfan), are the 3D pennants Collegiate of Ames? |
YES.... that is indeed the manufacturer, as evidenced by the tag on the reverse.

Mark ... awesome pennants!!! Thanks for showing pics.
Rob ... Yes those are Collegiate of Ames and here is the tag on the back ... |
I love the education I get here.
Man......that 3D Giants pennant  |

I think 3D Red Sox has to be harder to find. Up until that live auction a couple years back, I don't think anyone knew it existed. I believe Rick the pennant dealer picked it up, he has a pic of it on this thread. ... The Giants pennant I've seen once before in an eBay auction, it was missing the little baseball pin.
The open question is: are there any other teams out there besides the four? Surely there is an elderly person somewhere in Iowa who has the answer ... |
I gotta imagine the Chicago teams to be out there somewhere. Iowa boarders Illinois it would just make so much sense especially since they produced a plentiful amount of Big 10 Pennants.
|
Amazing pennants Mark!

Just curious...Who out there collects football pennants?
Mark...I know you dabble in football. Who else? And let's see some. 'Tis the season. Rob |
I just have that one Jets pennant I showed a while ago. I do want to pick up more Jets pennants going forward.
Mike |
If I'm asking for pictures, I guess I should include one (or more :) ) myself.
Happy to recently add this... <a href="http://imgbox.com/eqesXU45" target="_blank"><img src="https://images2.imgbox.com/b5/4d/eqesXU45_o.jpg" alt="image host"/></a> |
Rob,
That's a great looking pennant that I have never seen before. |

My football pennant collection is rather modest, although my very favorite design among those I have is the 50s/60s 49ers pennant with the goldpanner panning a football. Classic artwork.
Pictured here is a very old red Eagles pennant from who-knows-when and a rare Raiders AFL pennant. |
Thanks Jason. I had never seen before either but it gives me hope that there are others from the various regional all-star games of the times out there somewhere as well.
Greg...Love those pennants. Never saw the red Eagles before, though I have a similar one in the usual green. Not sure if the font or style of the team name is identical but the eagle looks very close. The Raiders is in amazing condition. I always wondered what exactly is pictured on that pennant? Is it a QB throwing or RB running? Or Neither? Rob |
I should've mentioned, if you ever get tired of owning those, let me know.

1950 Orange Bowl pennants
3 Attachment(s)
Here are some 1950 Orange Bowl pennants. I've only seen the first and second pennants one time. I've seen the third a few times, and there is another one with names (arranged more randomly) that I missed out on years ago.
Santa Clara defeated Bear Bryant's Kentucky team in the 1950 Orange Bowl. Santa Clara also won the 1937 and 1938 Sugar Bowl games. I've never seen a pennant from either of those games. If anyone has one, I'd love to see it. |
Greg,
Those are incredibly rare as well. Nice pennants. |
Great pennants Marc! Thanks for posting.
Here is the Eagles that I thought resembled Greg's red version. This is similar but different. PS...Anyone know how to get an ink stain off felt? <a href="http://imgbox.com/MhVipyNh" target="_blank"><img src="https://images2.imgbox.com/01/a9/MhVipyNh_o.jpg" alt="image host"/></a> |
Football pennant
1 Attachment(s)
Well.... this is quite literally a football pennant. Although I am mostly a 49ers fan, the Raiders were much more fun in the late 1970s. I couldn't resist the football shape for $9.99.
|
Nice looking pennant at a great price.

Hey guys,
I came home The other night and found a package in my kitchen. I wasnt expecting one so when I opened it up I found a note from Rob fballguy and these 2 awesome Jets pennants inside. Rob, thanks for the pennants, the friendship and the talks about NYC hot dogs. SF Giants collection
4 Attachment(s)
So, I got lucky enough to get connected with a Giants collector who is downsizing his collection. I was able to pick up these four rare Giants pennants. I'm especially excited about the Orange pennant depicting Seals Stadium.
|
Great pennants Marc! I especially like the picture pennant.
Which brings me to another question for the collectors here… Does anyone know why some teams don't have any picture pennants from the 60s? I can think of two general styles although there are a few I've seen which are isolates knockoffs. Anyway I don't think I've ever seen a Cubs picture pennant, only one Mets before '69 ... no Red Sox either. Has anyone else? I am personally trying to complete a Phillies "set" from 1960-69 .... |

I'm not sure that there could be a more 1970s pennant than that. Pretty cool.

We might get a dusting of snow for Christmas. Maybe less than an inch. That could change though. 70's? I'm jealous, lol. Mike |
Marc....
Those are all 4 great! Especially the Seals Stadium version that you made reference to. It's one of those that I regretted trading a few years ago (hoping another one would eventually surface). Has not happened so far, but good to see that you found one. It's possibly the SF Giants first-ever pennant. Great haul! |

Merry Christmas everybody!
A few of my friends know I picked these up, but figured I’d share with the group. The condition of the football pennants vary, but there is a good bleach candidate in the Browns pennant. I hope to have better results than my KC Royals attempt...but it’s good to have one under you belt :). Maybe Rob can hold my hand with some drying technique, too. Haha :D The NY Giants pennant and program were a fun find! I hope everyone is having a great day! Erik |
Gorgeous Giants Pennant!
Mike |
Cool football lot Erik. That Browns pennant will clean up nicely. I'll take it off your hands if you want. ;)

1963 World Series pennants - Dodgers/Yankees
2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know why there are 2 versions of the pennant below. They are identical except for the "1963" in the baseball. I can't believe they made 2 different versions like this (for the 2 different stadiums?), without any other differences. Both are always sold as originals, but is one a reprint?
thanks, Rick Attachment 300062 Attachment 300063 |

Mike |
Any idea on year?
Picked up this pennant recently. Was being sold as a 1965 Toledo Mud Hens pennant, but I suspect it's older than that. The material does not feel 1960ish. Found a similar style Brooklyn Dodgers which would bring it in to at least the 1950's I'd think.

Years ago I made the same observation RLevy just did regarding these two 1963 WS pennants. I own the "1 96 3" variation, and I am confident it's genuine. (It passed the smell test.) That said, for a 50+ year old pennant, I am always amazed at how this pennant is seemingly always being sold in mint or near mint condition. Then I noticed the second variation's existence. It too is always in remarkable condition. Naturally, I wondered if one or both were reproductions; but, found nothing that proved this for either variant. Then I saw Duluth Eskimo's 2014 posting wherein he commented on a "warehouse find" in Los Angeles and then implied that a certain 1963 World Series pennant may have come out of a similar discovery. Can anyone speak to either pennant's authenticity? Or, as to why such a minor variation might have been made for an event-specific pennant that seemingly wouldn't be sold anytime other than during/at the World Series? |

I cannot answer your question with any certainty, but can report that the pennant shown here was purchased from a vendor outside of Comiskey Park in 1965 when the Yankees were in town. I would have to say it is original. |

Bears in great shape. AFL All Star has tip issues but still looks nice otherwise.
