I was away for the weekend so playing catch up. Here's what I missed. Hoping to get today's Friend scanned/posted later today.

My card for yesterday and today.

Card #161, Bud Byerly.

When I purchased this card, I thought there must be something obviously wrong for it to only receive a 2.5. But once in hand, and just now again, to this day, I cannot find anything glaringly wrong with it to receive this grade?

OC, obviously, but with white borders and a barely touched upper left corner as its only faults, that I can see, this one is a real head scratcher. :confused:

Wow, Dale! Gorgeous card in any grade. I agree that the 2.5 makes no sense. The only things that I see out of the ordinary is the diamond cut and that someone glued a severed thumb to the lower left corner, but that might only be on the slab.

As you will notice, in the upper left corner, the card is sandwiched between the slab edges so I have no doubt, if I were to crack it, it would likely have a dent/mark where it was squished?
I've tapped this slab hard numerous times trying to free it but it will not budge. No doubt in my mind this particular grader wasn't all that good at grading nor slabbing cards, at least on the day this one was done. :(

I always thought the ST qualifier meant stain, but severed thumb would also work.

Wow! Those are sweet!

The only Cardinal in the Grey back series. I found the grey one on Ebay in 2005 priced as a regular card.

Maybe not a great ball player but another WW II hero from America’s Greatest Generation. Amazing that he was so determined to play ball again after the war

I met Charlie back 1985 at a BB card Show in Roselle Park (NJ). After his autograph signing session was ended, Charlie walked around the Show visiting
with the dealers. When he stopped at my table, I struck up a conversation with him regarding many Yankees of his day. We talked (actually I was mostly
listening since he did most of the talking), reminiscing about Yankees players for over 30 minutes. Charlie was such a delightful person to converse with.

It's a head scratcher, Tom.
When I purchased this card I had also purchased 2 other higher graded cards so I covered the grades and asked everyone's opinion.

The results were, people thought Roy was my highest graded card and that my highest graded card of the 3 should have received the lowest grade.
I did this test back when I first rejoined the hobby while in the process of trying to learn/figure out grading for myself. :(
