Just made arrangements to pick up these three pennants, Senators, Expos and Mets. Not the greatest pics…Can anyone shed some thoughts on value?

Those prices are also contingent on decent condition. If the tips are frayed, torn or missing, the prices could be lower than Greg posted. If the tips are perfect and pointy, they could go higher. I have seen the white Mets pennant in super nice condition sell between $50 - $60.

Found one I didn't even know I was looking for. Seems like a typical single bar pennant, but it's cloth. First time I know that I've seen this in cloth (may have overlooked some in the past). To me, finding things like this (variations that are not so expensive, but unique or interesting) is fun and one of the reasons why I enjoy the hobby.

Also: check the stitch. I’m guessing that it is similar to that of your 1982 pennant. That’s how my Eagles version is. Not typical of Trench, just as the cloth spine is not. But everything else screams Trench. A guess would put it roughly between the mid-60s logo versions and the first iteration of the 1967 trademark single bars. I don’t know enough about the other teams to pin it down. |

What do we make of this? It's flocking weird (and too expensive).

Tigers pennant

Can anyone identify this pennant? Detroit? Tacoma? Era? Lmk

Or, it could be neither. I think it would be hard to prove if this pennant is previously unknown. |

There are two copies of this pennant listed on worthpoint, both identified as Detroit by the sellers (although they could certainly be wrong). Apparently not a common pennant either way.

Some new arrivals today and a question:
The new arrivals aren't very rare but I love the eye appeal and the prices were great. The Tigers is 1950s by AdFlag but I noticed a mark on the lower part of the pennant by the spine. It looks like a T or a cross. Any ideas about what it identifies? |

So, the "mark" you found isn't actually a maker's (or, concessionaire's) mark--although I can see why you might think it is one. It's called a "registration mark," and it's a tool used by screen printer's to ensure the screen is "in register" with the felt beneath it. Usually, a registration mark would consist of a plus sign set atop a circle (like the Zodiac sign). After printing the first color, typically the white/underbase, you'd follow with a new screen for colors 2, 3, 4.... These screens would have the same registration mark, and the printer would line these up with the printed registration mark on the felt below to ensure everything was "in register." Here, the printer just made an error: the registration mark was positioned too far inside the spine. (It's supposed to land outside the spine where it can be cut away.) Here's a Trench-made pennant with the same defect.... |
Thanks, Domer! 👍

To keep the thread near the top of forum...
I've finally managed to pick up a St Louis Browns pennant in nice shape. Very happy with the WGN beauty. |
Sox Pennant

What can you guys tell me about this Sox pennant that closed on eBay a few days ago? Except for the condition, it's very visually appealing. The one thing that bothers me is the uniform the player is wearing. It's not consistent.

I just stumbled across this pic in my computer files. Do any of you guys have this black version? I've never seen one (except for, obviously, in this picture I saved). |

The same Bunting Batter image was also used for the only known St. Louis Browns Oversized Pennant and a Miracle Braves Pennant that I have. It was also used on an issue of Baseball Magazine. I loved the "crossed bats" motif on the Chisox Pennant, but heard that his unusual bunting technique led to some broken fingers. |

Well, the pennants that I purchased finally arrived…. :(

I've had some pennants arrived folded (and I'm using the term folded generously) and stuffed in an envelope. What are your new arrivals? |
Quote:
As for the part in bold.... same here about the folding. Amazing how these things can survive unscathed for 75 years. But just takes one bad ebay seller to fold it to conform to a manilla envelope, thus cracking the beautiful graphics for eternity. Such a pisser. |

Not only is shipping flat ridiculously more expensive now, I've never had an issue with a 12x6x6 box while pennants shipped flat are routinely bent...even had, on more than one occasion, flat pennants folded and stuffed in my mailbox by a substitute letter carrier (my regular one knows better). It makes zero sense to ship flat unless you're going to use very durable cardboard, but many people don't because it pushes you into Priority...so I'm fine with loosely rolled. |

A few years back, I received both a Houston Colts and New York Titans pennant shipped together in the same bubble mailer from a fairly well known sports auction house. Damaged the graphics on the Titans to the point the paint fell off. They offered to refund the shipping cost. |
I don't really buy pennants off ebay. When I use an AH, I usually speak to the shipping department and ask for them to be gently rolled. The best way do this is to use part of a poster tube as the core and roll the pennant arount it. That gives some support but till allows the sender to use a small box.

This was my "favorite"....from Argentina.

I had told the shipper that I was interested in any options to save a little bit of money on shipping, meaning that I didn’t need next day or priority and was fine if he shipped them and they took a week or two. He told me that he was offering a 20% discount on shipping this month so I thought it would be fine. I never thought in a million years that he wouldn’t ship them flat, and would roll them up like that in a Ziploc bag. Unfortunately, this was a seller of general vintage memorabilia so maybe he doesn’t have a handle on treating baseball memorabilia with kid gloves. |

They should iron out nicely. Just be sure to place a cloth between the pennant and the iron to ensure you don't overheat the graphics.
