Thanks Brother.........been wanting to start the set again and found an opportunity to do so..... |
Picked up a few new additions today. I've been after the 72 Namath for a while, and finally came across a nice one. And the 85 Montana might just be my favorite card of his.
https://s9.postimg.org/6ty8mgumn/20180203_173333.jpg You've got to love the doodle on the back of the Namath. Classic. :D https://s9.postimg.org/htjfy7iin/20180203_173653.jpg |

Posted this on the memorabilia side, but thought I would drop it here too. Picked up a 1903 and 1904 Army - Navy Trophy ball and an unused ticket to the 1904 game. Pretty excited to add them.

Scott,
Those Army-Navy footballs are amazing! Fantastic pickup. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Go Navy! Mark |
Great pick ups! I went back quite a few pages and saw some very nice stuff. Love that Browns Banana seat and drooled over that '65 Namath. Saw a few '73 Namath's also. I have that card in my Jets collection, but mine is not as nice condition.

I love the Army Navy footballs, true pieces of history.
I picked up this "Hail Mary" game ticket stub this week |
Still remember watching that game on TV as a 9 year old. I was a front running Cowboy fan at the time and was loving it. How about the flying orange some thought was a penalty flag. Great piece of history, congrats!

I love this card. Technically not a new acquisition, it was in a lot of Philly from all four years that I got and put away about two years ago. Pulled them out tonight looking for something and ran across this. Just a great game action shot that just screams to me the era it comes from.

That would be an interesting project, though a very large one. Probably find a lot of guys whose appearance in an action shot was their only appearance on a card. |
A side project of mine is collecting all the Fleer Team Action cards with Andre Tippett or John Hannah in the photo, even when they're not the featured player (or team).

I picked up a small stack of '48-'52 football exhibit cards, but included was this 1948 Sports Champion Exhibit Claude Buddy Young. I never even knew this set existed lol.
I've got 20 of the 59 cards in the '48-'52 set and I have these doubles if anyone has any to trade: Dottley Fears McColl Rykovich Williams http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=24221 |

Great pickup. jeff |
Great Gifford postcard! I've got a few Jantzen Jerry West items from the 60's but I've never seen that Gifford before.

I won this photo in the latest Love of the Game Auction, it's a baseball photo, but if you look closely you can see Roger Staubach in the back row. Photo is from 1960 Staubach was 18 years old, earliest item in my Staubach collection.

Got probably 20 or so packages in the mail this week. All of them had either vintage football or vintage baseball. These were the football I got today. The rest of the week's highlights were vintage baseball (my first Mantle, etc.).
I've been looking for the Lilly a long, long time. But they're hard to come by on ebay for some reason. If they're not insanely over priced, they're in awful condition. So I finally found one I liked with a good price. Also excited to add the Baugh to the 55T AA set. Thanks for the look. https://i.imgur.com/3HQoc4h.jpg?1 |

I had a set of the non-Winners and a copy of the "Winner" Reeves/Mrs. Reeves panel but recently came across a lot that included a few of the "Winner" cards as pairs and singles. What is the difficulty of these, can't remember really seeing any sell publicly. A strange set in that it features the wives and families of the players...

I wonder if the Manziel on the left has ever sprung to life at night, and gone on a murderous spree. There's something about the detail in his face that is a little disturbing. Like something out of the 'Puppet Master' movies. ;p

I don’t collect this set or printing plates, but I couldn’t pass this up. J.W. Lockett was an All-American at my alma mater and local university, the University of Central Oklahoma (Central State College at that time).

Interesting item, Casey. Didn't know a lot about JW so looked him up on Wikipedia. Looks like he was an awesome athlete.

Two small 1956 Topps cards (total BV of $18). But man, I love vintage football. I like it more than vintage baseball, I think. Not really. But I do enjoy it. I've now got about 20 vintage football cards along with my starter lot of 1960 Topps I have. Thanks for the look.
https://i.imgur.com/DEYLqtT.jpg?1 |
Great pickups, wdwfan! You keep telling yourself you like baseball better. Vintage football is cheaper, the sets are smaller, but have just as many stars as in the baseball set.
You are hooked! I think you should work on the '56 set. It's a good one. jeff |
Jeff speaks the truth. I have to continually resist the urge to go all in on football. For the most part, the sets are smaller and easier on the wallet. Even the stars, and there are many, are typically quite affordable.

They aren't the sharpest cards I have ever bought, but they are crease-free with just honest wear. The Blount and the Clark are dinged and have a little bend, but I really do like them. I mainly just wanted to get a few in hand to see what I thought about them. These '52 Bowman Large cards could become habit forming. ;)
|
Nice pickups, Robert! You are now official hooked. The artwork on these cards is stunning.

Picked up in my travels today. Would probably part with it if someone really wanted it because I am not a Browns fan but I couldn't resist the pictures and autograph of a HOFer.

That's a great piece, Joeybats. Congrats on the pickup!

Not a big time card and not working on the set. Just have always liked it and picked it up from a board member. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1b08d7aa03.jpg

Picked up my first Baugh card at a show today for $2. Avert your eyes, centering freaks!

I'll contribute a couple to the thread. Couldn't see myself going after a really high grade Ollie RC, so, found a low grade I'm more than comfortable with. Big Watters fan since his ND days and the look of this card, and it being a Platinum Gold sold me :)

Loving the CFL cards!!

Warfield my favorite of the 3. Looks better than some 4-6's I could afford :).

Love the Warfield and love it that there are beautiful "Good 2"s out there for us to find.
--Tim |
That IS an awesome Warfield! Why is it graded a 2? I don't see anything wrong with the front so is there an issue on the back?
Regardless it is simply a beautiful card. jeff |

Right side, if I had a scanner worthy of displaying pics(lol) or was better with the cam phone, the right side front has a couple of rubber band indents, not seriously major but there, and a slight indent on the back. Corners aren't razor but, and I'm dead serious when I say this, I am extremely happy with this card and for the $$ I could not do any better. I'm not a high roller $$$ collector, I no longer trade or sell, I'm just collecting for me. Not a high roller $$$ collector either, I can't get 7's and 8's RC's of everybody in vintage football. Need to find some diamonds in the rough :) |

Finally added a card to my almost completed 1963 Fleer set #6 Charles Long RC (and a short print)! The Standard Catalog says the two SPs in the set (#6 and #64) were pulled to make room for the unnumbered checklist card.
Now just two cards left #23 Cookie Gilchrist RC and #47 Len Dawson RC. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=25555http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=25556 |

I thought I had the only graded signed 1949 Leaf Sammy Baugh, but one popped up on the pop report then eventually on Ebay, so I had to get it and upgrade my other one. Still in the hunt for a signed 1948 Leaf Baugh but the one in the last REA auction went for crazy money.
