Congrats again, that label is a tough one.

They are extremely tough! One of the ones I have is part of an uncut strip of labels so am still looking for an individual example of one of them (Johnny Lujack) as I refuse to cut something like that up into pieces.

Is there glue on the back of the strip? I always felt those strips were part of the bigger advertisement that was cut up.

1963 Fleer #63 Fred Williamson "books" for $15 in NM. This ebay win was $11.50 + $3 shipping, but this seems to be about what the cheapest cards are selling for. I placed a snipe of $19.77 as I am getting tired of seeing this card on my list lol! In hand I thought the card might be trimmed, it measures like the other cards in my set, but the picture has a slight tilt to it (like I care about that lol). Nicknamed "The Hammer".
Just need five more of these little devils to complete my set, and I'll have another card to report on when it arrives.

Nice Larry. For anybody that hasn't watched the re-broadcast of Super Bowl I, The Hammer was one of the Chiefs who provided commentary during the re-broadcast. He hasn't changed a bit ... as outspoken as ever and very entertaining.

1963 Fleer Lance Alworth RC. A POPULAR CARD! Finally found a lower grade example on ebay (although I will say the sellers VG description might be a little generous LOL). Book price NM is $200 but this appears to be one of those times the book is thrown out the window. Sniped at $103.51 and lets just say I was prepared to go higher!
Four more needed to finally put this set to rest:
#6 Chuck Long RC SP
#23 Cookie Gilchrist RC
#37 Billy Cannon
#47 Len Dawson RC

So, one of my goals for 2018 was to keep my eyes open for Chargers memorabilia, particularly Type 1/team issued photos. Over the last couple of weeks, I have managed to purchase 70-something such photos from a fellow board member. These make me very, very happy. :D Here is a sampling. I may share more later if I have time. Thanks for looking.

Kurri17 01-08-2018 09:53 PM

Those photos are amazing. Bringing the history of the game to life, and it doesn't hurt that Alworth makes an appearance. Congrats on the pick-ups and continued good luck in increasing the collection.

Great photos, Robert! I'm assuming the ones showing Chargers celebrating is from their AFL championship?

Jeff, if I recall correctly those photos followed their victory over Denver on 12/22/63 which clinched their place in the championship game.

Robert I may be called for a delay of game here since it may have already been mentioned. Todd Tobias on the board AFLfan has published two of the best books I have seen both on the Chargers.

Mine are boxed right now but I believe the titles are CHARGING THROUGH the AFL and BOMBS AWAY on the Coryell era. Guys please correct me on the titles or Todd.

Great card, love the oddballs, especially the police sets. Value is in the eye of the beholder, some of my favorite cards have little actual value.

Fun day at the mailbox with the arrival of 31 additions to my 1965 Philadelphia set! Many of these were commons, but I did get the Hornung and a really colorful checklist. I also included a couple of scans of Giants players. I am finding the Giants cards to be really eye-catching. I realize this isn't considered a "major" set, but I am as happy with this project as anything I have collected in quite a while. Considering that I have been really unfocused over the course of my collecting life, it is rewarding to get on a project and stick with it. This will be fun to finish.

Kurri17 01-18-2018 09:03 PM

Purchases from the recent Sterling Sports Auctions, so I am off on another set:D
These cards were listed in groups of two, and I paid $45 for each lot (plus buyers premium and shipping).
Not sure how great of a deal I got, but I really like them, and they appear to be in line with my habit of trying to pay 10% of NM "book" or less.

You and me both, Kin! I grew up in Western PA and for whatever reason as a kid I didn't like the Steelers either. Took a lot of grief for that from friends so maybe that's the reason I despise them so much now LOL.

I was headed out of the card show yesterday and spotted a 1955 Bowman card on top of a $1 box. Dug through it all and found a few more. Finally decided to "start" the set instead of just "acquiring."

It's early in the process, but I have 43/160 cards (26.9%). I love that if I'm not worried about condition, I can pick up most of the cards in the set for $1 or less.

Today I took a road trip to "The Villages" retirement community where their collectors club hosts a card show three or four time a year. It may be the last time I visit since it seems that all the cards are the same as I saw last time lol but I needed to get out of the house anyway:) I picked up three hits 1961 Nu Card Scoops set, and ex Miami Dolphin Larry Seiple (who lives there) was signing for free. So I pulled all Larrys cards from my sets, and he signed them all (plus a couple not pictured) including his 1970 RC.
stopped for a cheeseburger fries and a milk shake on the way home too, all in all not a bad day!

A few recent pick-ups. Just ran across the Starr at the LCS and had to have it, I love the Philly issues. The Namath was a mistake, purchased it thinking I still needed it for my '72 set but am down to four and Namath isn't one of them. So, have a nice Namath, but nothing I would have purchased for my PC so would much rather have put those funds towards something else. The Kellogg's are just the latest in the loooooooooong road to complete this set with no cracking. Only about half way so far, and I try to catch deals or trades rather than just spend a ton to have it.
