I have no more. Check for a website called (I think) “the Muchinsky collection.”

Anyone familiar with this pin? I've looked all over and can't find another one from J.L. Brandeis clothes. Any help with value and/or scarcity would be appreciated. I know the condition isn't that great. Thanks

Not sure about the age of the pin and the scarcity but Brandeis was a Nebraska department store https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._L._Brandeis_and_Sons

Some great pins have been popping up this Luxello Collins and a 1915 Phillies NL champs Pat Moran from same seller. Who also had a Ward Tip top Dimaggio!! I tried but last second bid took me out. I had to settle for a couple 1910 Braves scorecards.. but quality stuff still pops up from time to time.

Hello - does anyone here have any information about these pinbacks? Thanks - eric

Cliff Bowman 10-12-2021 03:16 PM

Those are awesome, I’ve never seen them before. They are definitely a 1983 issue, Seaver came back to the Mets for that one year but was claimed by the White Sox in January of 1984. I would guess they are an unlicensed stadium issue.

Those oddball pins don't always have the most value, but I love them. One of my most sought after pins is a Mike Krukow, SF Giants headshot.

Question on Pins

IF I wanted to get into collecting pins

And I am a Pre 1925/30 Collector

What sets or series of pins should I look for.

I mostly collect Ruth, Jackson, Wagners, Cobbs

If your after pin sets there's a few choices here https://prewarcards.com/?s=Pins

Some more achievable options include:
  • P2 1911 Sweet Caporal pins
  • Our National Game Pins
  • PR2 1932 Orbit pins
  • PR4 1930 Cracker Jack

There's selection of Gehrig, Cobb, Mathewson and other HOFers in those sets.

Nice pickup. I would think 157 was just the kid's number in the Knot Hole Gang. Probably all were numbered differently.

No-hitter pinback collection update

3 Attachment(s)
It's been a minute since I posted my no-hitter pinback framing project and I thought I would send an updated look.

I've added a few pricier pinbacks including Frank "Noodles" Hahn (1st no-hitter in the 20th century).
I also made a decision to have fantasy pinbacks of a few of my favorite pitchers in order to fill the gaps where no issued pinbacks were ever produced.

Obviously, I needed to add Vandy and Virgil Trucks, both of which pitched 2 no-hitters in the same year, 1938 and 1952 respectively.
I also liked the Koufax blue fantasy pinback because it was well done...

Enjoy!

I believe the only reason why I have this pin is because I was a Yogi fan and I was doing a trade for that Honus Wagner Ronsen Lighter from approx 1913 and this was "thrown in" to even out the trade values

This was the Wagner piece (previously shared in a different post)

perezfan 11-15-2021 11:25 AM

That's an Aronson Match Striker. Have never heard that it was attributed to representing Wagner. But I have seen the piece in a few auctions, portrayed as a Babe Ruth piece (probably erroneously).

I think that in reality, it is just a cartoonish Batter depiction that's generic in nature. Quite tough to find in decent condition, especially complete with its striker at the top. The Base Plate is often missing as well. That's just a terrific early Baseball Figural piece.

Sorry to get off-topic.... back to Pins!

Agreed but to keep it on the topic of pins. I will try and turn it into a Pin but not sure if it will be balanced :D

Earl Moore 1910 Luxello Cigar pinback button

2 Attachment(s)
I recently added this 1910 Earl Moore Luxello Cigar pinback to my no-hitter pin collection.
This will be my final addition to my pinback collection as I have run out of space in my shadowbox framed project. ;)

In 1901 Cleveland RHP Earl "Crossfire" Moore became the 1st AL pitcher to hurl 9 innings of no-hit ball in the 20th century.
Ironically, he lost the game in the 10th inning, also becoming the 1st pitcher in the 1900's to ever lose a no-hit game.

Moore's "Crossfire" nickname came from the fact that his pitching motion came from a very challenging sidearm angle that was largely effective during his 14-year baseball career in the major leagues in the early 1900's.

This pinback is rare and originated from the collection of Dr. Paul Muchinsky and can be seen in his definitive book on pinbacks entitled appropriately Baseball Pinback Buttons.

I'm happy to add it to the collection. ;)

Happy belated Thanksgiving to everyone on net54.
I'm thankful to be a contributor to this great place for like-minded collectors to share their passion for the hobby. Many thanks to Leon for starting net54!

Another Luxello Pin

1 Attachment(s)
I've been wanting to add an example from this tough pin set for a long while since it fits my A's/Phillies type collection from the dead ball era. Was happy to finally pick one up for the collection this month.

Judging from the fact that the Barry pin wasn't one of the 22 examples from the Paul Muchinsky collection that were sold in the most recent Hake's auction, I would surmise that Barry might be an extra tough common in what can already be considered a scarce pin set.

Just a tad later than the Luxello pins :p, but I finally found an "I Was There" pin that I'd been after for 27 years. I don't know why it was so tough. The 1994 Opening Day pin was tough, too. Doesn't make much sense because the Giants were coming off a renaissance 1993 season...103 wins and Bonds' first year. I believe, but am not sure, all these bootleg pins were sold in the Candlestick parking lot.

I just picked up a big lot of mostly College football pins from the 70's for resale. The problem is the ribbons attached to the some of the pins smell musty from being stored. I'm hoping someone has a suggestion(s) for getting the odor out. I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance!!

Dryer sheet(s) and a Ziploc bag?

UKCardGuy 04-07-2022 09:57 AM

Baking powder absorbs odor...so does vinegar.

Open a box of Arm and Hammer and put the box near the pins/ribbons. Cover the whole lot with a big box and leave it for 24 hours. If you don't have baking soda, a bowl of vinegar will achieve the same thing.

edtiques 04-07-2022 01:59 PM

Not too thrilling to the general populace, but I am thrilled to finally get this one. For years, the Giants have sold a "special" $50 bobblehead with the proceeds benefiting their Junior Giants program. The ushers would wear these pins. In 2016, it was Matt Duffy. Problem was, Matt got traded before the bobblehead offer. This pin was tough to find. I can now delete four ebay searches, which makes me very happy!

Now, how am I gonna keep the symmetry of my case??

After thinking about for a few years, I finally bought one of those shadow display frames off eBay and stuffed it full of pins. Once I got going, it was hard to stop — the task took about four hours. I could only display about half my pins, so I had to make some tough choices. It came out looking better than I expected.

I tend to be obsessive. Today I finally obtained the last pin on the right. There were three different banners. Each banner came with a small and large pin-back The white banner version is the toughest. The smaller white was the final one I needed. It took me 6 years to find it. The World Series Vendors wore one as well with the added words congratulations Pirates and ZUM Zum. This one is the only one I’ve ever seen.

Damn, Mike! Impressive! I’ve seen ONE 1971 NL West Champions ribbon on ONE size (1.75”) Giants pin and, no, I don’t own it.

edit: then again, I guess Bob Robertson ruined the Giants’ chances to have more than one ribbon.

Hey all!

Had a guy I’ve purchased cards from (online never met in person, but all the cards he had sent have been great), showed me this pin.

He said someone had told him it seems to be a cut out portion of a goudey Ruth and stuck in a homemade pin.

Do you all have an opinion on if this looks like it could have been a legit card? The “dots” almost seem too prominent to be a card?

Thoughts?Attachment 526339
Attachment 526340

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ooo-ribay 07-24-2022 07:16 AM

To me, the “dots” make it look like fabric. I have no idea if a cut up Goudey has any value but, again to me, that pin’s value would be very minimal.
