Anyone know the year of this pennant? I haven't been able to locate a similar while searching online. Thanks!

I think I've found a new manufacturer of pennants in the 40s-50s. Eder Mfg Co.
They're still in business today...the largest manufacturer of flags and flagpoles in the USA. But they started out making pillows, felt pennants and rag dolls. https://ederflag.com/pages/about-us I wonder what other pennants they might have produced. |

I bought a turn of the century Notre Dame pennant with their label on it a few years ago. When I learned that the company was still in operation, I reached out and shared my purchase with them. They were pleased to see it. Today they only make flags and flag pole accessories. I asked when they last made felt novelties, and they really didn't know. She guessed they had stopped making pennants by the 1940s.... If I had to guess, this Braves pennant was likely made in 1952'ish, when everyone in Milwaukee had contracted Braves fever. I seriously doubt Eder made other pennants for other professional sports teams. Eder simply made it because they were the hometown pennant maker, and the demand existed. Most of their labels from the 1910s look like this one, below. Thanks for sharing! |
I like their 2-color tassels. Not sure I have ever seen another company employ this.... but it's certainly a nice touch.

Did anyone here win this? What a beautiful pennant. 1949 roster. (Seller had it mistakenly listed as late 50s). These roster pennants have subtle differences in the handwriting style but this one IMO is best.

Kyle, you're explanation about the Braves fever of 1952 seems plausible to me. I wonder if they used old stock to make the pennants or if they still used that design for other pennants in the 1950s. I'd love to come across a product catalog from Eder from the 1950s. |
Does anyone know of any pennants from any maker recognizing the 1953 World Series, or dated 1953 from either team? The only one that comes up in a google search is the rectangular Dodgers pennant similar to the ‘54 Indians that you see more frequently.

Need help please, anyone know the value of this with the condition? Thank you!

I’d say about $125 in the current condition. If it was EX or better, it might go as high as $175-$200. But the general wear and flawed spine will keep it in the $100 - $125 range. It’s a fairly scarce variation, and a nice pennant!

Couldn't find any room for my AdFlag burgee, so he had to go into the garage. I had to slant it to miss the opener track but I kind of like the slanted look. This guy spent a couple of weeks buried in snow to get the folds out. Funny story about the Spring Training Welcome San Francisco Giants banner...I paid 10 bucks for it and only $5 for shipping. I think the poor seller had to spend $20+ on shipping. It's massive - 3' x 12' and made of heavy vinyl.

Rob, No doubt about it. Time to buy another house. Nice touch on the burgee (I'm picking up the lingo.). That stadium in Scottsdale is a thing of beauty. |

The pickins are similarly scarce for 1952, I've noticed. There was a 1952-dated Brooklyn Dodgers WS champs (phantom) pennant made ... but was there an NL champs variant made for the bums in '52?? I think by 1953 the pennant makers and vendors were sick and tired of dated, unsold Dodgers vs. Yankees stock from prior years that they couldn't move. So they got smart and began omitting the years ... which would have served them well in '55 and '56 (and '63, '77, '78, and '81). |

Here are two other ‘59 Sox pennants with the same White Sox font. I would think Ad Flag purely for how ugly the baseball head batter is, but this is looking more and more like WGN. |
The baseball head batter is awesome!

It’s still a cool pennant though, I agree … |
I believe there is a dated 1953 Dodgers, but I can’t remember if it says World Series or NL champs. Full size if I remember correctly. I’ve never seen a dated Yankees 1953 as that is what I collect.

Gotta share this story …
So I’ve been calming down as far as purchases, essentially buying only if it is “wall worthy”. (LOL). Heritage Auctions has a process where, for certain items, you can offer to purchase what another person won in prior auctions. Most are overpriced but I did once get a good deal on some pennants that went cheap and the owner didn’t want them anymore. I noticed a 1951 Trench Indians scroll pennant. These are my favorites. And I’d never seen this before. Trench made a few for 1949-50 and selected scrolls for championship teams (as you know). But there’s nothing notable about the ‘51 Indians. Still a cool pennant, maybe the earliest stadium pennant, and I like how the Chief is still wearing the crown three years after the fact. Note that they left room along the bottom edge to add on “champions” notation should they win the pennant (but they finished second, 5 games out.) I’ll add here, I have seen this with the tip cut off, into a forked design. As if to get rid of the year and sell them after ‘51. But never saw one fully intact. The pennant was part of a large collection of items, however. From a Red Ruffing private collection. The pennant was probably just an add-on, there were medals, gave used bat, signed letter from President Reagan, etc. The lot sold for over $3K and any offer would have to exceed $4K. But I only want the darn pennant. I asked Heritage, can I make an offer to the owner on one item in the lot? (No.) Okay, can you please give the owner my email and notify him that I am interested in the pennant? I’ll even pay a commission fee. (No.) So that’s that. Kinda lame but what are ya gonna do. The next day … this shows up on eBay and I got it at a great price. The second one I’ve ever seen (different color). What a coincidence! |

You lucked out, Greg! How come I never do? :(
That’s a great pennant. I love the crown and the over his head ball he’s presumably going to hit. Is the “I” intersecting the “C” something you see in other Indians pennants? |

Yes they used that style throughout the early 50s. Here are a couple with almost identical name:

Repairing a pennant cut with a knife

I have an interesting challenge for the collective wisdom on this thread. So here's the story, I bought a couple of pennants recently.
So far so good. As I live in the UK, I use a shipping service in Florida. I get deliveries sent there and they store them for up to a month and then combine them in a single shipment to the UK. The process works like this: package arrives at the shipping service, they open it up, take photos, identify the relevant customs category and let me know what's arrived. Generally this works really well....occasionally it doesn't. It seems that when the 2 pennants arrived at the shipping service, somebody used a knife to open the box and cut through the pennants too. They compensated me for the damage, so that's OK. But now I'm left with 2 really nice pennants except they have "knife wounds". Any thoughts on whether they can be repaired? and How? I'm on the razors edge waiting for some sharp insight . :D |
I didn’t think there’s much you can do. :(
Had they been older, “felting” might be in order (I still want to try my hand at that). |
It is a shame both are really nice pennants
