Default DHL Fan Fest

It's All-Star Weekend in The Big Apple

A wonderful element of the ticket package were tickets
to the DHL Fan Fest

This morning we had the opportunity to spend a few hours
viewing the exhibits.

The Hall of Fame exhibit is truly impressive. Nearly every World
Series program and most All Star programs are on display

There are more than 40 HOF uniforms on display. Unfortunately
no cards.

There is an interesting Negro League section albeit the uniforms
are not original but a number of the photographs are special

For us the highlight of our morning was visiting the Hunt Auction
display. While most of the publicity surrounding the auction
centers on the Whitey Ford and Thurman Munson collection,
there were some stunning items. several of which may have gone
unnoticed to all but the diligent catalog reader.

Our favorite was the K Bat of Harry Wright with an ad on the back.
It is graded SGC 40 but appears much sharper than that. Little doubt
that the card will bring a multiple of what Harry Wright earned as a manager
during his entire career.

Note: We could not locate the KBat in the catalog albeit it is on display.
Could be lot for the Hunt's Louisville Slugger auction.

There is also a unique collection of high grade Rose Post Cards- albeit
all minor league players from the Scranton team. Several soon to be major
leaguers appear in the set. Many of the examples are SGC 60- an extraordinary
grade for Rose post card.

A final favorite is a rare ticket stub to the first game at Yankee Stadium. We would
be surprised if it does not bring double David Hunt's estimate.

The DHL Fan Fest runs through Tuesday. Security is tight and many of the lines are
long...but well worth the $30 if you have the time and do not live too far from NYC

There was the post about Moonlight Graham being on the Scranton team in the W601 (?) picture.

I don't know the years of the Rose postcards, but does anyone know whether he was on the Scranton team in the Rose pc's?

Max

[edited to add: Doh. I didn't read carefully enough and realize this was tied in to the Hunt's auction. I could have simply looked at the auction listing]

Rare estate collection of (10) 1908-09 PC760 Rose Company baseball postcards. Recently discovered grouping of these tough early postcards to include: Moran, Houser, Beckendorf, Halligan, Bills, Zeimer, Groh, Steele, Coleman, and Kittredge. All players are from the Scranton BBC team and are postally unused on the reverse. The cards have all been graded by SGC as follows: SGC 60 EX (3 cards), SGC 40 VG/EX (3 cards), SGC 40 VG (2 cards), and SGC 30 GD (2 cards). Rare intact group offering of these tough early baseball postcards. ($2,000.00-$3,000.00)

with the Rose lot, estimates are not too valid to begin with, huh? That lot will go for 7-10K at least I'd bet. Look for DHL to ditch their sponsorship of MLB in next year or so.

Bruce, are you (or any members of your group) the consignors of the lots you mentioned?

Hunt's estimates are all over the board; look at the ridiculous estimate on the lot of Authentic N162s.

I hope they do different then what they do on their other auctions and don't set the reserve close to the low estimate, otherwise that lot won't sell.

We have not consigned any items to this Hunt Auction.

In the past two years, we have consigned a total of one item
to a major auction house (mastro). That card was a PSA 9
1940 Playball of a non- HOF. Two years ago we also sold a few common
duplicate PSA 8 1953 Bowman B&W as a consigner on EBAY.

We appreciate the inquiry.
